“These shows are some of the best and acclaimed series on television, with influential, culture-driving stars, and some of the best, most creative talent behind the camera,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment, and Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Broadcasting Company.  “All four are core assets within our 2014-15 portfolio of content, and we’re really happy to bring them back to our FOX fans for another season.”

The quartet joins Bones, Sleepy Hollow, and Glee in getting early renewals for next season, though the likes of Enlisted and Almost Human were left out in the cold for now. Though FOX promises additional pickups to be announced soon, the network has online casino been stockpiling programming for next season and there”s only so much space to go around, year-round programming initiative or not. The currently un-renewed shows certainly aren”t dead, at least in the case of Almost Human, but it”s going to be a long wait until May for those involved in certain productions.

With FOX getting the bulk of its upfronts announcements out of the way, The CW already renewing half its schedule, and CBS likely to give mass renewals later this month, it looks like the ball is effectively in the court of ABC and NBC, each without any major early renewals. NBC typically gives out its early passes to next season in March, meaning that the Peacock”s Golden Tickets could be distributed soon, while ABC tends to wait until the week before network upfronts to announce its renewal decisions.

The Following airs Mondays at 9:00 on FOX, with New Girl airing Tuesdays at 9:00 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Tuesdays at 9:30. The Mindy Project is currently on hiatus and will return with new episodes in April.

The biggest changes come for the network’s Tuesday nights, as The Mindy Project and Dads will be put on hiatus beginning January 28th and February 11th, respectively. On February 4th, Brooklyn Nine-Nine moves to 9:30 to air behind New Girl, where it will stay until its late March finale. Mindy will then return to its slot on April 1st and finish out the season there, with Glee moving to the night on February 25th at 8:00. There’s been no return date set for Dads as of yet.

All the moves that FOX made today carry a certain amount of sense to them – Glee was floundering on Thursdays and has a guaranteed sixth season, so it needed to be moved and could prove to be a good match for New Girl; The Following is their biggest drama right now and giving it the NFL boost will not only help their affiliates, it’ll fight against a sophomore ratings slump; though the network brass love The Mindy Project, and it has a small but loyal fanbase, it hit a series low this past week and doesn’t seem to be benefitting from its time slot; despite its full season order, Dads has been an albatross around the neck of the network and this seems to be a way to guide it to cancellation without having to rescind the 22-episode order. However, the changes will just end up being confusing to the casual viewer with all the show shuffling and FOX has shown itself to be unsure of itself at this point in the season, making that abundantly clear by how quickly they offered a revised version of the schedule they unveiled earlier this fall.

With the annual winter TCA press sessions only a couple of months away, don’t be surprised if more moves are made, in addition to the scheduled announcements of premiere dates for 24, Gang Related, and Wayward Pines.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine 

The workplace, cop comedy stars Andy Samberg, Andrew Braugher and Terry Crews, and has been one of the fall’s better-reviewed comedies.  The show is pitted against NCIS and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and hasn’t been performing as well as it could out of it’s Dads lead-in, but it definitely stands out amongst it’s in-genre competition and is deserving of a full season.

Fox’s giving the show the back nine shows their faith in the comedy, despite the aforementioned tough competition and less-than-desireable lead-in.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine will also air in February after the Super bowl with an episode of Fox’s other hit comedy, New Girl.  The post-game lead-in is generally considered a sweet spot for a ratings boost, and offers the net a chance to promote the show more heavily midseason.

Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) is a talented, but carefree police detective at Brooklyn’s 99th precinct who, along with his eclectic group of colleagues, are used to having a lax captain around the office. However, when tightly-wound Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) takes over, he is determined to make this dysfunctional group of detectives into the best precinct in Brooklyn.

Tuesday, September 24th – “The Tagger”
When Jake is late for roll call, Captain Ray Holt assigns him to a graffiti case that Jake feels is below his level. However, when the culprit turns out to be the Deputy Commissioner’s son, the case becomes a major problem. Meanwhile, Gina’s (Chelsea Peretti) psychic friend visits the precinct and gets inside Charles’ (Joe Lo Truglio) head.

As expected, Jake doesn’t take to the idea of having to be more professional around the office and immediately clashes with Captain Ray Holt, testing the boundaries of his new superior and trying to figure out just how much he can get away. But Holy isn’t like all the rest; he’s stern, focused, and expects Jake to respect the badge and his co-workers. Although Jake does want his records to speak for themselves and to be taken more seriously as an officer, it’ll be difficult for him to give up the image of the slacker detective, if only because it means he’s going to have to grow up and accept the fact that he’s not as young as he once was; but can Jake find a way to still be the fun and playful officer in the precinct while presenting himself in a more respectable manner?

The series premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which also stars the likes of Joe Lo Truglio and Terry Crews, will air Tuesday at 8:30 on FOX. You can check out promos for the series here.

Filling out the rest of the Precinct are Melissa Fumero (One Life to Live) as Detective Amy Santiago, Jake’s extremely competitive partner who isn’t happy to be paired up with someone so lackadaisical about their profession; Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris) as Sergeant Terry Jeffords, former badass of the squad who has pulled back on his case load and the amount of danger he puts himself in ever since his wife gave birth; Joe Lo Truglio (Superbad) as Detective Charles Boyle, far and away the hardest working cop at the 99th, though he isn’t the smartest, most physically fit, or bravest of the bunch; Stephanie Beatriz (Short Term 12) as Detective Rosa Diaz, the tough and rather opinionated object of Charles’ desire; and Chelsea Peretti (Kroll Show) as Gina Linetti, the busybody office manager.

Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur (Parks and Recreation), the series premiere of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to air Tuesday, September 17th at 8:30 on FOX as a part of the revamped comedy bloc. -TV Guide Network will premiere four original series during fall 2013: Mother of All Talent, following a mother-daughter duo in charge of a leading talent agency for kids; Tequila Sisters, centered on an affluent Hispanic family in southern California; Wendy Williams Project, where the talk show diva gives a peek behind the curtain at her personal life; and John Rich Project, said to be one part talk (live performances, interviews), one part reality, and all parts Nashville.

-Former Sportcenter anchor Keith Olbermann has signed on to host a late night talk show for ESPN 2. Beginning Monday, August 26th at 11:00 p.m., the anchor, who has been seen on MSNBC and Current TV, will head Olbermann, said to focus on the day’s relevant sports topics through a mix of perspective and commentary,  interviews, contributors, panel discussions, and highlights.

-James Franco (This is the End) is set to guest star on the first two episodes of The Mindy Project‘s second season. The actor will be playing Dr. Leotard, a former model turned physician who replaces Mindy at Shulman & Associates while she’s volunteering in Haiti.

-The CW will kick off its fall season with the two-night presentation of the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival, beginning September 30th. Scheduled to appear are Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, J. Cole, Elton John, Muse, Keith Urban, fun., Miguel, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Tim McGraw, Miley Cyrus, Jason Derulo, The Wanted, Avril Lavigne, Pete Tong, AWOLNATION, Ke$ha, Phoenix, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Queen + Adam Lambert, and more.

–The View co-host Sherri Shepherd will guest star on How I Met Your Mother‘s final season as a woman sitting next to Marshall on a flight. Her role, which begins in the season premiere, is said to be recurring.

-Composer Bear McCreary has been tapped to serve as series music composer for Starz’s upcoming pirate drama Black Sails, which debuts in January 2014. McCreary’s series credits include Da Vinci’s Demons, Battlestar Galactica, and The Walking Dead.

-ABC has officially renewed Canadian import Rookie Blue for a fifth season. The series currently airs Thursdays at 10:00.

-Per The Hollywood Reporter, Ravenswood has recast the role of Olivia, which had been filled by model Elizabeth Whitson earlier this year. Instead, due to a different character direction and only a week before pilot filming, Merritt Patterson will now play the role. Patterson had previously been cast as Olivia’s best friend and there’s been no word who’ll fill her role as a result of the bump up.

-According to TVLine, the cast of ABC’s soap Mistresses has had their contracts extended through September, meaning that the network is mulling over a potential second season renewal. The season finale is set to air September 9th.

-Nelson Franklin (Veep) has joined CBS’s The Millers as a series regular, while Australian comedian Kate Jenkinson has boarded ABC’s Super Fun Night as a neurotic Type A lawyer.

-FOX debuted a new promo for upcoming cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine during last night’s MLB All-Star Game.
