ABC reveals its 2014 schedule Tuesday, May 13th. They’re currently the only network that has yet to give an early renewal to one of their veteran shows, though the likes of Once Upon a Time, Grey’s Anatomy, and Scandal are all locks for a spot on the 2014-2015 schedule.

Of course, the strategy isn”t going to turn two disappointing performers into superstars in the span of two weeks, but it”s encouraging that the network casino online is even extending the opportunity to both shows, as it shows that while they”re not doing as well in the ratings, they still have a chance to turn things around and make it to another season, should things break their way. Both aren”t being helped by the way they”re scheduled, with The Neighbors airing along with Tim Allen multi-cam Last Man Standing and Trophy Wife forced to deal with similarly skewing FOX comedies and The Voice results show, but neither will get a chance at a better situation, as ABC will (as of now) be keeping both in their timeslots come midseason.

The Neighbors airs Fridays at 8:30 on ABC and will return with new episodes January 10th, while Trophy Wife airs Tuesdays at 9:30 and will resume January 7th.

More interesting now is how the network is going to handle the comedies they decided to stick with. With Back in the Game likely ending in January, Super Fun Night‘s extension should take it into February, as both The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife have been rumored as candidates for Wednesday tryouts. ABC also still has Suburgatory and dating comedy Mixology on the bench, though the former dropped enough last season to where a return to Wednesdays seems unlikely and the latter is another comedy seemingly penciled in to the post-Modern Family slot despite being completely mismatched. The network’s full plans for midseason should be unveiled sometime later this month.

The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife air Tuesdays on ABC at 9:00 and 9:30, respectively, while Super Fun Night airs Wednesdays at 9:30. Back in the Game will continue airing Wednesdays at 8:30 and finish out its initial 13-episode order.

The network has ordered three additional scripts for both The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, TVLine is reporting.

The sitcoms have been performing comfortably, though not stellar, in the ratings since their premieres, and Trophy Wife could probably benefit from a move to a timeslot out of Modern Family (rather than the slightly-less-than-fun Super Fun Night), but this is nonetheless hopeful news for the two.  Time will tell if the comedies will last a full season.

The Goldbergs, is based on creator Adam Goldberg’s real family life.  Set in the 80s, it is exactly what it sounds like – a comedy about The Goldberg family.  In fact, each episode ends with clips of Goldberg’s home movies.

Trophy Wife, which has suffered some flack for its title, follows Kate, third wife of Pete Harrison, as she navigates her new and extensive (and slightly wacky) family.  This includes three step-children and Pete’s two ex-wifes, plus her best friend.

Haysbert will appear in episode 9 as Russ Bradley Morrison, who will be chaperoning a school field trip to the museum with Kate (Malin Akerman).  He is described by TVLine as “straight-laced,” not entirely surprising for a man with three names.

Russ will also find himself involved in one of Kate’s matchmaking endeavors.

In addition to playing President David Palmer on 24, Haysbert’s credits include The Unit, and the role of everyone’s favorite insurance pitchman for Allstate.  Haysbert also appeared in a Rainn Wilson-fronted pilot Backstrom for CBS, which failed to make the 2013-2014 cut.

Trophy Wife airs Tuesdays at 9:30 PM ET on ABC.
