The #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last two years and most highly-rated show in cable television history, The Walking Dead has also spawned a companion series based on a new story and new characters by Robert Kirkman, creator of the Walking Dead comic series. Seasons five and six will both be ran by Scott Gimple, who took over for outgoing showrunner Glen Mazzara at the beginning of season four, while season five will feature the debut of Seth Gilliam (Teen Wolf) as Gabriel Stokes. Michael Cudlitz (Southland), Alanna Masterson (The Young and the Restless), Josh McDermitt (Retired at 35), Christian Serratos (Twilight), and Andrew J. West (Walter) have all been promoted to series regulars for the fifth season after recurring during season four.

The fifth season of The Walking Dead is set to premiere Sunday, October 12th at 9:00 on AMC, with after-show Talking Dead following at 10:00. You can check out a new trailer for The Walking Dead below.

In addition to releasing the extended trailer for the fifth season of The Walking Dead, a season that finds Rick reunited with most of his group and looking to take over Terminus, AMC announced that Seth Gilliam (Teen Wolf) would be joining the cast of the zombie drama in an as-yet-unspecified role. Meanwhile, recurring players Andrew J. West (mysterious Terminus leader Gareth), Alanna Masterson (Lily’s sister Tara), and Christian Serratos (Rosita, a member of Abraham’s group) have all been promoted to series regulars beginning with the fifth season premiere.

The first half of Mad Men‘s final season will begin its run on Sunday, April 13 at 10 PM.  One week earlier, on April 6, the network’s new Revolutionary War drama Turn will get a 90-minute premiere at 9 PM.

Better Call Saul, which focus on Saul Goodman before he became Walter White’s attorney on Breaking Bad, will debut some time in November – a specific date has yet to be determined.

The Chris Hardwick-hosted talk show The Talking Dead, which airs following new episodes of the network’s hit, The Walking Dead has unsurprisingly been renewed for a fifth season after delivering a series high among total viewers with the first half of its fourth season.  Hardwick told critics earlier this week that he’d continue hosting the series as long as AMC would have him.  Both The Walking Dead and The Talking Dead will begin their new seasons in October, with a concrete premiere date likely to be announced at this year’s Comic-Con.

Freshman series Halt and Catch Fire, which revolves around the personal computing era in the early 1980s will launch this summer- a specific date to be determined.  Hell on Wheels will also return later in the summer. The unscripted  Game of Arms will premiere Tuesday, February 25 at 10 PM, followed in May by the returns of Freakshow and Small Town Security.

“We are extremely excited about the 2014 lineup,” AMC president and General Manager Charlie Collier said.  “Both the returning and new series reflect our commitment to serving passionate audiences with compelling, character-driven storytelling.”

In addition to its status as the most watched scripted series on television, The Walking Dead has spawned a companion series, as AMC will base the show, which is currently in development, on a new story and new characters from Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman. There’s been no word as to how the companion/spinoff will incorporate into the world of the Dead or which, if any, Dead characters will be shifted from one series to the other.

Mad Men

Per The Huffington Post, AMC will be splitting Mad Men‘s 14-episode seventh and final season into two pieces.  The first 7 episodes, titled as a group “The Beginning,” will air in spring of 2014, and the second, ‘The End of an Era” will air in spring 2015.

“We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience,” said the show’s creator Matthew Weiner in a statement.  “The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience.”

AMC has followed a similar strategy with Breaking Bad, successfully, and also airs The Walking Dead in split seasons for fall and spring.

Mad Men premiered on AMC in 2007, and has been the winner of the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series four times.

Said Charlie Collier in the official press release,  building on the success of the drama – “the most popular show on television for adults 18-49” was a “no-brainer.”  After all, The Walking Dead season three out-performed The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Voice, and Game of Thrones.

It appears that the new world being created isn’t necessarily tied to the comic book that The Walking Dead, is based on, though it would come from creator Robert Kirkman and the show’s executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave alpert.

The announcement follows that of Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, and two other new drama series for 2014; Halt & Catch Fire and Turn.

Season four of The Walking Dead will return to AMC on October 13.  The spin-off  will launch in 2015 – check back for updates.

-The CBS Fall Preview Special is set to air Thursday, September 12th at 8:30 and will be hosted by We Are Men“s Tony Shalhoub, Jerry O”Connell, Kal Penn, and Chris Smith. The special will feature behind the scenes looks at each new fall show on the network this year, as well as cast interviews, and will be available on-demand through September 29th.

-Anne V and Lydia Hearst have joined Oxygen modeling competition The Face, where they”ll act as coaches to teams of aspiring models looking to become a brand ambassador for a well-known, national brand. They replace Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova, who coached during the first season, and join Nigel Barker, who will have an expanded role this season.

-WGN America has ordered 13-episode original drama Manhattan to series. Set to premiere in summer 2014, the series will be the network”s second original series launch in the coming year, following supernatural drama Salem, and will begin production in New Mexico this winter. From Sam Shaw (Masters of Sex), Manhattan follows a group of scientists as they attempt to build the world”s first atomic bomb and keep their mission a secret from the ones they love. No casting has been announced as of yet.

-An original song by country music legend Charlie Daniels will appear in the next episode of AMC western Hell on Wheels. Titled “Hell on Strings,” the instrumental will be featured in a scene where Bohannon and Louise Ellison dance in a local saloon.

–Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale is set to guest star on an episode of ABC Family comedy Baby Daddy. Set to shoot this November, the episode will be a part of the show”s third season in 2014.

-The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards have named four pairs of presenters for the September 22nd ceremony: Kerry Washington and Diahann Carroll; Amy Poehler and Tina Fey; Zooey and Emily Deschanel; and Allison Janney and Anna Faris. They join previously announced presenters Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

-Casting: Annie Ilonzeh and Blair Redford will appear on Beauty and the Beast, with the former playing a high school friend of Catherine”s and the latter an Army buddy of Vincent”s who becomes a threat to the beast; Alexander Dreymon is set to recur on American Horror Story as a handsome man who moves next door to the coven”s academy; Downton Abbey“s Dan Stevens will voice biological computer TIM on The Tomorrow People; Josh Groban  a friend from Sydney”s past on The Crazy Ones; Keith David has joined Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and will voice the Cheshire Cat; and Smash alum Will Chase will appear on Nashville as Luke, a potential love interest for Rayna.

–Mistresses star Alyssa Milano has been tapped to host the third season of Project Runway All Stars on Lifetime, following one-season stints for model Angela Lindvall and model/actress Carolyn Murphy. Meanwhile, guest judges will include the likes of Abigail Breslin, Nick Cannon, and Debbie Harry. Premiering October 24th, the season will feature the following designers vying for another shot at the prize package, which features a spread in Marie Claire, a one-year position at Marie Claire as Contributing Editor, an all-expenses paid trip to Southeast Asia,  professional hair styling and photography for all of the designer”s upcoming fashion shows throughout the year, and an entire year”s worth of beauty products for their fashion shows as well as professional makeup artist services for their debut show, among other perks for coming out on top this season.

The next ten episodes of the series, which puts troubled married couples through an intensive two-week bootcamp, will debut in early 2014.

-Food Network has revealed that four-episode Rachel & Guy: Kids Cook-Off will premiere this September. The series is a challenge between Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri compete to see who can better coach a team of young chefs. Through challenges related to time sensitive meals and food mash-ups, as well as weekly pop quizzes, the two teams of four will be whittled down to one winner, who will receive a webseries on FoodNetwork.com.

-Country duo Florida-Georgia Line will perform their hit single “Cruise” at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, FOX announced today. –Dancing with the Stars champion Derek Hough is set to host Family Dance-Off, a one-hour special airing August 25th on ABC. In the special, five families who love to dance will get the opportunity to perform and compete on a Hollywood stage before a live studio audience.

-Syfy will be airing Face Off: The Veterans Strike Back on Tuesday, August 6th at 9:00, which will include exclusive interviews with the eight veteran contestants returning for another shot at the title, looks back at the four previous seasons, and a sneak peek at the next season of the show. Season five of Face Off will premiere the following Tuesday at 9:00.

-Do you want Sharknado merchandise? Well, you’re in luck, as Syfy and The Asylum have partnered with Earthbound LLC in a deal that will produce merchandise for the original film, including fashion tees, bags, posters, accessories and costumes to gaming, among other areas. The first wave of Sharknado shirts will hit stores in the coming weeks, while a sequel is set to premiere next July.

–Ripper Street has added several new faces for its second season, which will premiere on BBC America in December. Among the additions are David Costabile (Lincoln) as Jackson’s brother Daniel; Damien Molony (Being Human) as Detective Constable Albert Flight; Joseph Mawle (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) as K Division’s Inspector Jedidah Shine; and Leanne Best (Stepping Up) as Jane Cobden, the first woman elected to London County Council.

-ABC’s Revenge will have an original novel penned about the training process Emily underwent with Takeda in order to be ready to take down the Graysons. “Schooled in Revenge”, written by Jesse Lasky, follows Ava Winters, an heiress to Napa’s Starling Vineyards whose fiancé robs her blind before leaving town. With nowhere to go, she heads to Rebun Island where she meets Emily Thorne, who imparts wisdom about the importance of seeking justice. But how will Ava’s mission be linked to the missions of the four other people on the island? “Schooled in Revenge” will be available on August 20th.

–Helix, the next Syfy original series, began production in Montreal this past weekend and added Jordan Hayes (House at the End of the Street), Meegwun Fairbrother (The Time Traveler), Catherine Lemieux (White House Down), and Neil Napier (300) to its cast. Also announced was that Friday Night Lights director Jeffrey Reiner would be helming the first episode, which should debut in January. The thriller, about a group of scientists who retreat to an Arctic facility to study a possible disease outbreak, will be executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), showrunner Steven Maeda (The X-Files), and Lynda Obst (Contact).

-At their TCA session, Hulu revealed the premiere dates for its next four original series and information about other shows coming to the online streaming service. In addition to the next seasons of Misfits and Moone Boy, the following will be arriving on Hulu in the near future.

An animated comedy about a former mob boss who relocates to Canada with his family due to being in witness protection.

The Strange Calls
A comedic mystery centering on a night-duty cop that receives strange phone calls in the middle of the night that expose the paranormal mysteries of the town.
