Replacing the former will be Community, which will air back-to-back new episodes on January 2nd at 8:00, and Parks and Recreation, moving to its new 8:30 time slot beginning January 9th. From now until then, the night will include back-to-back original episodes of Parks, holiday specials, The Sound of Music Live, and The Sing-Off. The latter will ultimately be replaced by Chicago PD, which is set to premiere Wednesday, January 8th, but before that, Wednesdays on NBC will see new Dateline specials and several holiday specials, including music specials starring Kelly Clarkson and Michael Buble. A planted spinoff of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD stars Jason Beghe, Jon Seda, and Sophia Bush.

It’s not an unexpected move by the network, considering the disparity between its first three nights of the week and its last three nights of the week. Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays have been strong for NBC and kept them in first place thus far this season, but Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays all have holes that were helping to bring down their entire schedule. Now that Ironside and Welcome to the Family have been addressed, the network can now concentrate on how to perk Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show up, as the two comedies have had disappointing ratings in their brief runs this season that resulted in the show already being pulled for a new episode of The Voice on November 7th.

EDIT: According to Deadline, Sean Saves the World has been given an order for four additional scripts due to building on a poor lead-in and an encouraging creative direction.

A remake of the classic 70s series of the same name, Ironside stars Underwood as Detective Robert Ironside, an acerbic policeman with killer instincts and a sterling reputation that has made him one of the faces of his department. Not even a bullet shattering his spine two years ago can stop him from being out on the streets and doing his job to the best of his ability; in fact, it’s made him a tougher, faster, and more ardent detective, as he seeks to bring about the justice that he believes is missing from the world today. The series also stars Brent Sexton (The Killing), Spencer Grammer (Greek), and Pablo Schreiber (Orange is the New Black).

Meanwhile, Welcome to the Family tells the story of teenage couple Junior (Joey Haro) and Molly (Ella Rae Peck) and the pregnancy that brings them together while ripping their families apart. Junior gets a text during his high school valedictorian speech that Molly’s expecting, throwing what they expected their futures to be out the window. The two quickly embrace the idea of becoming young parents, but their own parents aren’t so keen on the idea of promising academic careers being abandoned for morning sickness, colic, and strained finances. However, they soon realize that their kids are bound and determined to be together and start a family, so while the mothers take a kinder approach to get to know one another, the fathers have a more difficult time coming to terms with where their children want their lives to go. The series also stars Mike O’Malley (Glee), Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight), Justina Machado (Six Feet Under), and Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives).

The series premiere of Ironside is set to air Wednesdays, October 2nd at 10:00 on NBC, with the first episode of Welcome to the Family slated to premiere Thursday, October 3rd at 8:30. You can check out the rest of NBC’s fall premiere dates here.

The core of the Friday lineup won’t be returning until Friday, October 25th, when Grimm will debut its third season at 9:00 and Dracula begins NBC’s test of low cost international co-productions at 10:00. Until they debut, Fridays will likely be the land of repeats and Dateline, which has its season premiere on September 27th before shifting to 8:00 once Grimm and Dracula arrive.

Among the other later debuts of the season are The Biggest Loser (October 8th), returning to the fall with a one-hour edition; Blair Underwood cop drama Ironside (October 2nd); interracial marriage comedy Welcome to the Family (October 3rd); and Sean Hayes vehicle Sean Saves the World (October 3rd).
