-ABC Family will be running the five episodes of reality series The Vineyard on Monday, August 26th from 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. The series focuses on locals and “wash-ashores” on Martha’s Vineyard and the relationship drama that follows them.

–Oprah’s Lifeclass has officially won the Primetime Emmy for Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Social TV Experience, a category voted on by a jury of professionals in the relevant peer group. The series finds millions of students all over the world interacting with Winfrey on-air, online, and via social media as they listen to an expert meant to help them live more fulfilling lives. OWN has also doubled the episode order for Tyler Perry’s Love Thy Neighbor, bringing the comedy up to 52 episodes for its first season, and while ordering four more installments of Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots and moving Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse over from TBS beginning Wednesday, September 18th at 9:00.

–True Blood star Stephen Moyer has signed on to star in NBC’s production of The Sound of Music as Captain Georg Van Trapp. The three-hour live event, also starring country music star Carrie Underwood, is set to air December 5th.

-ABC Family has ordered three comedy pilots: Mystery Girls, starring Tori Spelling as a former TV star forced to solve crimes with her mystery TV series co-star; Work Mom, which follows digital marketer Heather as she gets a promotion and hires her mother; and Young & Hungry, about a tech entrepreneur who hires a food blogger as his personal chef. A decision about whether any of these will be picked up to series and join the network’s comedy roster, which includes Baby Daddy and Melissa & Joey, will come early next year.

-Kendrick Lamar leads the way with 14 nominations at the BET Hip Hop Awards, which will air October 15th and be hosted by Snoop Dogg. Other major nominees, which you can see here, include J. Cole, Drake, and Wale.

-Comedian Dave Attell has landed a weekly late-night stand-up series. Yet to be titled, the eight-episode first season will feature comedians performing uncensored and unfiltered sets, with new faces mixed in with familiar favorites. He previously had travelogue Insomniac with Dave Attell on the network, which ran from 2001-2004 and inspired several one-hour specials during its run.

-History has greenlit production on a scripted miniseries based on famed magician Harry Houdini. Starring Adrien Brody and Kristen Connolly, Houdini follows the man as he “finds fame, engages in espionage, battles spiritualists and encounters the greatest names of the era, from U.S. presidents to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Grigori Rasputin.”

-Upcoming ABC Family drama Ravenswood will be given a special new promo during the summer finale of Pretty Little Liars, airing Tuesday. Also, the network will initiate the #RavenswoodReveal challenge, as star Tyler Blackburn will tweet a portion of a photo that holds clues to the series. Once it reaches 1022 retweets, in honors of the show’s October premiere date, one of his four co-stars (Nicole Gale Anderson, Brett Dier, Britne Oldford, and Merritt Patterson) will tweet another part of the photo, looking for 1022 retweets, and so on.

-Syfy has put a new reality series from the producers of Face Off into development. Camera Ready will put ten aspiring costume designers through challenges in creating wardrobe for television, film, and music videos. They’ll be evaluated by Oscar-winning costume designers, cutting-edge directors, and avant-garde fashionistas, with the winner taking home $100,000.

-On September 7th at 9:00, Animal Planet will be holding a countdown of the Top 20 Kitten Moments, with regular interruptions scheduled for glimpses at the Animal Planet L!VE’s Kitten Cam. If you can’t wait, the network has set up an exclusive live stream of the second annual Walker Art Center Internet Cat Video Film Festival, set to begin August 28th at 8:30 p.m. on AnimalPlanet.com/CatVidFest. A butter sculpture of a cat will also be revealed during the hour.

-The CW has set its summer finale dates, as well as ordered one-hour special Colin & Brad: Two Man Group (with Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood) and a one-hour Arrow recap special titled Year One. The schedule is as follows:

–Renewals: NBC has ordered a 10-episode second season of Hollywood Game Night, while TBS has renewed Men at Work for a 10-episode third season, Sullivan & Son for a 13-episode third season, and Deal with It for a 10-episode second season. Deon Cole’s Black Box remains the only TBS original with its fate up in the air.

Awkward isn’t in a great place when we pick up with the high school comedy, similar to that of its heroine Jenna Hamilton, who threw away the relationship she worked so hard to get over a boy in her creative writing class. Throughout the first half of season three, Jenna continued to make decisions that, while understandably teenage and symptomatic of her insecurity, brought her likability down to dangerously low levels, something at least partially responsible for the lower ratings the first 10 episodes received. As a result of said lower ratings, Awkward has gone from potential scripted game-changer to having to lean on the next season of Snooki & JWOWW for support on what promises to be an intensely competitive night.

Helping the show is the fact that the network seems to be completely behind it, already ordering a fourth season and giving it said lead-in, so standing between the comedy and a return to the stability it enjoyed in its earlier life is the creative direction for the fall season. If the show figures out a way for Jenna’s journey to be realistically painful without diverging from what made it so captivating to begin with, and the new showrunners have a keen ear for the specific voice of the departing creator, there might still be quite a bit of life left in it.

Alberghini and Chessler most recently worked on the final season of The CW’s 90210 reboot. Other credits include 2008 ABC drama Cashmere Mafia, which starred Lucy Liu and Frances O’Connor, and Tori Spelling’s VH1 comedy So noTORIous, which lasted one season.

Awkward has been one of two scripted successes in MTV’s recent move into original scripted content. Along with Teen Wolf, the comedy has able to find a passionate following and critical success, in addition to its place on the pop culture radar. It’ll be interesting to see how (or if) the show noticeably changes under the new regime, considering that the first three seasons will have a very distinct voice that could be hard to replicate.

The change also comes at an awkward (heh) time for the show itself, as ratings weren’t the best during the first part of season three and fan anxiety about the direction the show is taking its main character only increased with each successive episode. There’s a chance that the new showrunners could recalibrate who Jenna Hamilton is and make her a more likable (or at least more understandably flawed) figure than she was during the first half of season three, something that might need to be done in order to stop the ratings bleeding and keep the show float for a while longer.

The second half of Awkward‘s third season, which began this past spring, will premiere sometime this October on MTV.

Aside from confirming that Teen Wolf‘s winter season will begin January 6th, MTV revealed that the fall season of Awkward and the third season of Snooki & JWOWW will both debut in October, though no concrete premiere dates have been announced. Additionally, the network will be unveiling two new docuseries to go along with said established hits in Generation Cryo, about children who were conceived through anonymous sperm donors, and Nurses, following a group of travel nurses assigned to work at an Orange County hospital for 13 weeks. The former will premiere sometime this November, while the latter is set to make its debut on an undetermined date this fall.

In terms of development, MTV has named Jay Beattie (Revenge, Criminal Minds) and Dan Dworkin (Revenge, Criminal Minds) as writers for the highly anticipated series adaptation of horror movie franchise Scream. The network also announced two new pilots, including high school buddy comedy Faking It and Happyland, which tells the story of a girl whose mother works at a theme park. No new drama pilots have been added to the MTV development roster, however.

The network also confirmed that Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous has been pushed back to 11:00, with Money From Strangers assuming its 10:30 slot from here on. The Bo Burham comedy has struggled in the ratings since its debut and after hitting series lows last week, MTV made the move to lessen the impact it has on their primetime schedule. While not officially canceled, Zach Stone is a dead show walking and unless ratings make enormous strides over the final half of its season, it won’t be continuing for a second season. The show stars Burham as a directionless high school graduate who eschews the college path his friends take and decides to pursue his goal of becoming famous. However, the path to infamy for the former outsider proves to be more difficult than expect. When Awkward returns, Jenna Hamilton should be excited, as she has the boy of her dreams, two wonderful best friends, and the world at her feet. She’s going into her junior year of high school, which means that it won’t be long now before she can say goodbye to Sadie Saxton for good, but with that promise of a new beginning comes an inordinate amount of pressure. Aside from her typical load of schoolwork, Jenna has to begin making important decisions about her future; namely, who does she want to be? And how will she go about making that happen?

And what about that seemingly perfect relationship with Matty? After going back and forth (and back and forth and back…) between him and Jake, Jenna chose to be with the one who gave her butterflies, but during her time in relationship limbo, her friends might have moved on. With Tamara and Ming leaving their outsider status behind, Jenna now has to play catch up and hope that she doesn’t get left behind.

MTV has announced that the first half of Awkward‘s 20-episode third season will be premiering Tuesday, April 16th at 10:00. The show, which has earned the network critical raves, award nominations, and an audience outside its target demo, aired on Tuesdays during its first season before moving to Thursdays last season to join Snooki & JWoww. After putting up very strong numbers at 10:30, often beating its lead-in, it moves back to Tuesdays, this time to lead off the night and give a boost to Girl Code, which premieres the following week at 10:30.

Last season on Awkward, Jenna got exactly what she wanted. She’s now together with Matty, the guy of her dreams and the one she wants to try and make it work with, and on fairly good terms with her mother, so why is she so down on herself during season three? Her junior year should be about having fun, figuring out what she wants to do after high school, and growing more comfortable in her skin, but when school gets back in session, Ming and Tamara have blossomed socially in ways she hasn’t. The former trio of wannabes and wallflowers have splintered off, with Jenna watching her friends do everything that she wanted to do – and doing it without her. Seeing their growth makes Jenna put her relationship with Matty under the microscope; is she leaning on him too much and sacrificing personal growth in the process? Is there more to life than Matty McKibbin’s pretty face and the walls of Palos Hills High?
