Prisons all have delicate ecosystems that get thrown off balance by the introduction of powerful new entities and for the women of Litchfield, Vee will be that entity, someone whose entry into their world will cause alliances to shift and power to be acquiesced – whether they like it or not. But will Red be able to survive being locked away with the one woman she’s genuinely afraid of?

Quickly becoming the most watched and talked about show distributed by Netflix, Orange is the New Black has picked up a Peabody Award, a People’s Choice Award, and four Satellite Awards, as well as a spot on the AFI Program of the Year list for 2013, since the release of its first season. The show has also been nominated for a Grammy, a Golden Globe, a GLAAD award, and four Writer’s Guild of America awards.

The second season of Orange is the New Black is set to be released June 6th by Netflix.

Netflix scored two slots on the list with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, while other new entries included FX spy drama The Americans, Showtime period drama Masters of Sex, ABC political soap Scandal, and HBO political comedy Veep, the latter of which is coming off Emmy wins for Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale. The rest of the AFI Top 10 of 2013 list was made up of the most recent seasons of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Good Wife, and Game of Thrones.

It’s been a particularly award-heavy time for the TV industry, as the Writers Guild, Producers Guild, and International Press Academy have all announced nominations for their respective awards in recent weeks. Freshman series that have made noise include Masters of Sex and Orange is the New Black, both of which stand a reasonable chance of breaking into Golden Globe, SAG, and Emmy races later in the season.

We’re very excited to have them back for another season.”

-Emmy nominated online series Burning Love will be airing its second and third seasons this fall on E!. Created by Erica Oyama, the Bachelor spoof has featured the likes of June Diane Raphael, Michael Ian Black and Adam Scott. No premiere date or scheduling strategy has been announced as of yet.

-CBS has opted to delay the series premiere of Greg Garcia’s The Millers in favor of running two episodes of The Big Bang Theory on Thursday, September 26th, likely in order to boost the series premiere of The Crazy Ones, starring Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar. -Joining Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Honourable Woman, an eight-part Sundance miniseries, will be Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta), Janet McTeer (The White Queen), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie), Lubna Azbal (Paradise Now), and Igal Naor (300: Rise of an Empire), the network announced Monday. The thriller will follow a woman who inherits her father’s arms company and uses it to laying high-spec data cabling networks between Israel and the West Bank.

-Robin Thicke is set to perform “Blurred Lines”, his first number one single, on America’s Got Talent on Wednesday, July 31st. The single is taken from the album of the same name, which sees its release the day prior to his appearance on the NBC talent competition.

-Darren Criss and Lucy Hale have been named hosts for the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, airing live August 11th at 8:00 on FOX. This will be the first time they’ll be hosting the show, which will feature appearances from the likes of Russell Westbrook, Rebel Wilson, and Demi Lovato, as well as performances from Paramore and One Direction.

-Disney Channel has renewed Gravity Falls for a second season. No information about debut date or episode count has been released.

-Casting news: Oscar nominee Annette Bening may heading to her first series regular television role, as she’s collaborating with Jay Roach (Game Change) on an HBO comedy about a casting director from New Mexico. Meanwhile, Orange is the New Black has added Lorraine Touissant (The Fosters) as a woman who used children to help run her drug business and boosted Danielle Brooks (aka Taystee) to a series regular. Sharknado alum Aubrey Peeples is set to recur on Nashville as a reality singing competition runner-up who seems as sweet and gracious as can be.

-Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in Sundance Channel”s original mini-series The Honourable Woman, where she”s the first official casting announcement. The thriller, written by Hugo Blick and set to premiere in 2014, is set against an international political backdrop and features Gyllenhaal as the daughter of a Zionist arms dealer who assumes his business and uses those resources to better the area between Israel and the West Bank. Her appointment to the House of Lords, meanwhile, causes a political maelstrom.

-Brian Austin Green has been tapped as a series regular on Anger Management, per The Hollywood Reporter. He”ll be reprising his role as Jen”s boyfriend and will act as a foil for Charlie.

-Ahead of its July 11th premiere, Orange Is the New Black has been renewed for a second season by Netflix. The next 13 episodes in the journey of imprisoned Brooklynite Piper Chapman will begin production later this year for a 2014 debut. The series stars Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, and Jason Biggs. -Gail O”Grady and Michelle Harrison are set to star in The Mystery Cruise, a two-hour backdoor pilot for Hallmark Channel based on “The Santa Cruise” by New York Times bestselling authors Mary Higgins Clark and  Carol Higgins Clark. The series would follow lottery winner Alvirah Meehan (O”Grady) and her best friend Regan Reilly (Harrison), a private investigator, as they team up to solve crimes.

-Fourth of July weekend will find the first three seasons of The Walking Dead being replayed on AMC, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on July 4th. The marathon will be hosted by director Kevin Smith and feature interviews with cast and crew, as well as behind-the-scenes footage from season four, currently in production. The 4th will find season one played twice, once in black-and-white, while season two will play on the 5th and season three will be split up between the 6th and 7th.

–Happy Endings is officially dead after three seasons, according to Deadline, as the former ABC comedy”s cast options expire this weekend and producer Sony TV finally called it quits in finding a new home for the show.

-Beginning August 4th, Discovery”s annual Shark Week will feature several new programs, including late-night talk show Shark After Dark and Shark Cam, a robot submarine that is used to track sharks in a new and exciting way. Also included is the first time real shark attack footage captured by eye-witnesses, which will premiere during I Escaped Jaws.

-Ovation has acquired the rights to both seasons of Smash and will begin replaying the troubled NBC production on Friday, July 19th at 8:00. Season two will premiere in the same timeslot in November.

-ABC will rebroadcast the first episode of murder mystery reality-competition series Whodunnit? on Saturday, June 29th at 10:00. The show airs Sundays at 9:00.

-Could David Bowie be heading to Hannibal? E!Online that creator Bryan Fuller wants to get the rock star on board for a second season arc. But who will he be playing and how will he fit into the Hannibal-verse?

-OWN has ordered an additional 16 episodes of Tyler Perry drama The Haves and Have Nots, bringing its first season episode total to 32. The show”s current 16-episode cycle will air through September 3 with the new episodes  premiering in early 2014. There”s been no word yet on any additional episodes for comedy Love Thy Neighbor, the network”s other attempt at getting into the scripted programming game.

–Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul and House of Cards’ Kate Mara have been tapped to announce the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations on Thursday, July 18. Paul is a two-time winner for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama.

-Netflix will debut Mako Mermaids, a sequel to H20 – Just Add Water, on July 26th, when all 13 episodes will be made available. Following on where H2O – Just Add Water left off, mischievous teen mermaids  Lyla, Nixie and Sirena, guardians of Mako Island, fail to stop 16 year old boy Zac from falling into the sacred Moon Pool and becoming a Merman.

The show is the fourth original series to hit Netflix this year, as Kevin Spacey’s political thriller House of Cards, Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove, and the return of Arrested Development have already made their debuts. It should be interesting to see how the show is received not only critically but commercially, as House of Cards garnered hype by being the first scripted series produced solely for Netflix and the long road back for Arrested Development resulted in a Memorial Day weekend binge that accounted for quite a bit of bandwidth usage. Orange Is the New Black, a comedic drama not unlike Kohan’s best-known project, won’t have either the buzz of being the first, being a Hollywood director’s project, or being a revival, so this should be Netflix’s first big test as far as scripted programming goes. If the show manages to keep the momentum going and draws a strong enough audience, it will validate the streaming service’s decision to focus so heavily on creating new material, but if Orange Is the New Black disappoints, questions might begin to arise.
