Two Boston men operate a popular 5K obstacle course race series in 20 cities that features 100′ foot water slides, fire and water hazards, as well as other “epic” obstacles. Will the Sharks buy in?  Also, an update on Brandon and Keith Marz from Van Nuys, California,  Leander, TX and their Marz Sprays, oral vitamin atomizers which are a tasty, easy way to get daily nutrients, in which Lori invested last season. “Shark Tank” airs FRIDAY, APRIL 25 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

A 19-year-old from Plano, TX invented a “breakaway” hanger as a third-grader which collapses under pressure for easy on and off, and two friends from Brooklyn, NY pitch their compostable party tableware made from renewable plant materials. And, Kevin O’Leary follows up on his and Mark Cuban’s recent investment in Groovebook, which tripled its sales in just 5 days after airing earlier this season and also drops by “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” This episode of “Shark Tank” airs FRIDAY, MAY 2 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

SHARK TANK – “Episode 525” – Self-professed wine connoisseur Kevin O’Leary gives advice to a lady from Solano Beach, CA on her lighter, healthier alternative to a full-bodied wine. Likewise, Robert Herjavec has some suggestions for a former merchant marine from Anacortes, WA on his innovative, deep-sea treasure hunting business. Three men from San Francisco, CA hope to paddle their way into a deal with a collapsible kayak that folds up like the traditional Japanese art of origami, and a couple from Pleasant Hill, CA reveal to the Sharks the surprising twist they put into their decadent cinnamon rolls. Also, an update on Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac from Los Angeles, CA and their Maine lobster roll food truck business, which Barbara Corcoran invested in during Season 4, on “Shark Tank,” FRIDAY, MAY 9 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

SHARK TANK – SEASON FINALE – “Episode 527” – A college sophomore from Oak Brook, IL raised in a traditional Indian family, wants to make her own American dream come true with her flat-folding, reusable storage box. A couple from Carmel, IN hope to cook up a deal with their reinvented cookware, two exuberant moms from Beverly Hills, CA have taken the pain out of shoe shopping for your kids with an iPad app that measures foot sizes, and two men from Aurora, IL designed a quick, simple solution to tying up a water balloon. In a first of its kind follow-up, many of the amazing success stories from “Shark Tank” are highlighted, with the entrepreneurs discussing their experiences and how their businesses have grown since coming to the Tank, on the Season Finale of “Shark Tank,” FRIDAY, MAY 16 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Personally, I’m a big fan of Tyler since her role as Charlie, Ross Geller’s paleontologist girlfriend on the evergreen sitcom Friends. She is also popularly known for her vocal work on Archer, an FX show, which is coming back for another season on January 13.

Tyler will be seen guest-starring on the 16^th episode “Spring-a-Ding-Fling of Modern Family Season 5, where she will be playing the role of Wendy who is Mitchell’s old classmate during law school. In the episode their old friendship takes a very interesting turn when Wendy becomes his boss and he has to report to her.

Along with Aisha Tyler, the other guest stars of the season 5 of Modern Family include Jane Krakiwski, Nathan Lane, Adam DeVine, Jesse Eisenberg and John Benjamin Hickey. Besides The Talk and Archer, Tyler also hosts Whose Line Is It Anyway on CW, which just got renewed for another season last year. She has also landed up on a role in an HBO Pilot, Open by Ryan Murphy. Tyler’s book Self-Inflicted Wounds: Heartwarming Tales of Epic Humiliation got published last summer.

The network has ordered three additional scripts for both The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, TVLine is reporting.

The sitcoms have been performing comfortably, though not stellar, in the ratings since their premieres, and Trophy Wife could probably benefit from a move to a timeslot out of Modern Family (rather than the slightly-less-than-fun Super Fun Night), but this is nonetheless hopeful news for the two.  Time will tell if the comedies will last a full season.

The Goldbergs, is based on creator Adam Goldberg’s real family life.  Set in the 80s, it is exactly what it sounds like – a comedy about The Goldberg family.  In fact, each episode ends with clips of Goldberg’s home movies.

Trophy Wife, which has suffered some flack for its title, follows Kate, third wife of Pete Harrison, as she navigates her new and extensive (and slightly wacky) family.  This includes three step-children and Pete’s two ex-wifes, plus her best friend.

Modern Family

The network has begun the development of Raising Mom, from Vergara and Latin World Entertainment, Electus and ABC Studios, Deadline reports.

Raising Mom follows a young mom and her 21 year-old son who learn that they have actually done a pretty good job of raising each other, only to decide that it may be time for them each to be a bit more independent.

The idea for the show was sparked by Luis Balaguer of Latin World Entertainment after observing Vergara’s relationship with her son during the time that they have been producing partners.

Gail Mancuso, just off her Emmy win for directing Modern Family, will be on board.  Christine Zander (Raising Hope) will be writing.

Sofia Vergara is also an executive producer of ABC’s upcoming drama Killer Women.

Although, everything is at an initial stage, Modern Family’s other show runner/creator Chris Lloyd will be focusing on the flagship series with 20^th Century Fox Television, , which just started airing its 5^th Season this week and opened up with a ‘historic’ gay proposal episode. The most talked about ideas in the spin-off meeting were to include Gil Thorpe, Rob Riggle’s arrogant real estate agent, who was a rivalry with Phil (Ty Burrell). The team described this meeting as nothing but discussing and exploring all the possible options for a perfect concept. It’s still uncertain whether it’s going to be a spin-off or a concept based on the record-breaking comedy series, to which both 20^th Century and ABC denied any comments. 

If you think about it, a spin-off would be a better idea than a show based on Modern’s concept. With this comedy series bringing out a spin-off, it would become a rapid trend as many channels look forward to work on an established show, which already has an audience, which saves them from running a risk of beginning a brand new show. ABC is already launching a spin-off, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, this fall, along with CW bringing in The Originals, the Vampire Diaries spin-off. On the other hand, AMC is planning a prequel spin-off of Breaking Bad and CBS coming up with an NCIS spin-off, set in New Orleans.

The fifth season of White Collar will premiere Thursday, October 17th and find Neal having to make a deal in order to get Peter off from the murder charges. Following the season premiere will be the final six episodes of the Covert Affairs season, as Annie prepares for an impending showdown with Henry Wilcox. Beginning on Sunday, November 3rd, USA will get further into the reality show genre with It Takes a Choir, which follows choirmaster Gareth Mahone in a journey around the nation looking for some of the best choirs out there. Finally, the two-hour Psych holiday musical special is set to air December 15th; in it, Gus and Shawn have to track down a madman playwright, who escaped from the mental institution he was sentenced to six years ago.

This season, ABC opted for a more concentrated approach to premiering their programming, as they were still launching series in late October last season. Now, though, they have a few on either side of Premiere Week and will focus their attention on premiering a fair amount of their programming together. Interestingly, they’ll be facing the entirety of the CBS lineup during Premiere Week, which could eat into the live numbers for both networks and show why a staggered approach might be best for all involved.

With the less than luxurious accommodations bringing a bit of a halt to the family affair, the group begins to break off and begin doing their own things. Mitch and Cam make an attempt to join the party and celebrate, only to realize it’s not quite what they had hoped for. Gloria, whose time honored tradition of eating twelve grapes at midnight as she makes a wish on each one, is put in jeopardy when she realizes there are no grapes to be had.  Jay, having been left on his own, is feeling a bit letdown until he runs into some old friends played by guest stars, Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars V) and Lainie Kazan (My Big Fat Greek Wedding).

Back at home, Haley and Alex are left to watch over the kids, only to find out that it might not be as easy as they thought.

Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
