CBS Moves Intelligence Premiere to January 7th

CBS has announced that action thriller Intelligence will be premiering Tuesday, January 7th at 9:00 following a new episode of NCIS. It will then move to its regular timeslot – Mondays at 10:00 – on January 13th following the two-hour finale of Hostages on January 6th at 9:00. The show was previously scheduled to premiere Monday, February 24th, but since Hostages hit a series low for last night’s episode, the network can’t necessarily afford to wait the extra six weeks until the premiere of Intelligence. This way, Hostages gets off the air faster, thereby doing less damage to CBS, and Intelligence gets to utilize a strong NCIS lead-in as well as debut ahead of the Olympics.

Intelligence stars Josh Holloway (Lost) as Gabriel, a high-tech intelligence operative enhanced with a super-computer microchip in his brain. The first human to be connected to the worldwide information grid, he can hack any data center and access key information to help the United States against its enemies, but if Gabriel falls into the wrong hands, he could potentially bring about destruction the country isn’t prepared to deal with.

In addition to Holloway, Intelligence stars Marg Helgenberger (CSI) as Gabriel’s boss who oversees his missions; Meghan Ory (Once Upon a Time) as Riley Neal, a Secret Service agent assigned to help protect Gabriel; Michael Rady (Emily Owens, M.D.) as federal investigator Chris Jameson, John Billingsley (Enterprise) as Dr. Shenendoah Cassidy, designer of Gabriel’s chip; and PJ Byrne (Horrible Bosses) as Nelson, Dr. Cassidy’s son who is jealous of how prominent Gabriel is in his father’s life.

CBS to Repeat The Crazy Ones, Mom, and Hostages Saturday

CBS has revealed that they will be encoring the series premiere of The Crazy Ones, Mom, and Hostages Saturday, September 28th, beginning at 8:00.

The first single-camera comedy CBS has ordered in several seasons, The Crazy Ones stars Robin Williams as advertising genius Simon Roberts and Sarah Michelle Gellar as his Type-A daughter Sydney, who was recently named partner at their firm. While the two butt heads in terms of approaching to their clients and the philosophies that guide the way they conduct business, things always end up working out well for them, considering that they balance the other out and provide prospective clients with two very different (yet valid) ways of helping their business.

Repeating at 8:30 will be Mom, where Anna Faris portrays Christy, a newly sober single mother who works as a waitress in Napa Valley. The Chuck Lorre-created comedy, which had a modest opening this past Monday, finds Christy having to sort out her increasingly complicated life – her mother Bonnie, a fellow addict; her affair with Gabriel, her married boss; her two children, a mature-beyond-her-years teenage girl and a blunt little boy; and her strained relationship with her son’s irresponsible father. Can Christy find some way to balance everything going on in her life and manage the temptation she faces every single day at her job?

The first episode of political thriller Hostages will then air at 9:00. From producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the series stars Toni Collette as prominent surgeon Dr. Ellen Sanders, who has been personally selected by the President to perform what should be a routine operation. However, Ellen and her family are soon taken hostage by rogue FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle; he orders Ellen to assassinate the President while she’s operating on him or else he’ll kill her family. While the death would be painless and there would be no way to trace it back to her, Ellen doesn’t know if she would be able to live with herself after knowingly taking another person’s life. Will Ellen go through with the operation and save her family?

Mom airs Mondays at 9:30 on CBS, with Hostages following at 10:00. The Crazy Ones, meanwhile, will air its series premiere Thursday, September 26th at 9:00 following the one-hour season premiere of The Big Bang Theory.

CBS Announces 2013-2014 Premiere Dates

CBS has become the first broadcast network to reveal premiere dates for its fall schedule. First out of the gate is the 27th edition of Survivor, set to bow Wednesday, September 18th with a 90-minute premiere. The following week is when the CBS debuts kick into high gear, with September 23rd – September 29th seeing every series the network will be airing in the fall making its season/series premiere. Interestingly, the “premiere week” strategy hasn’t been as utilized the past couple of seasons, due to falling broadcast ratings and the need to give their programming as much room to breathe as possible; the networks tended to shoot themselves in the foot by trying to premiere so much in such a short window, cutting off the number of people who could feasibly sample series and allow them time to grow, so seeing CBS revert back to that is moderately surprising. Either they’re counting on the other networks spacing out their fall premieres, thus making them the only game in down during their premiere week, or they’re confident enough in their schedule to where they feel it’ll cut through the premiere week clutter.

Currently unscheduled are new comedies Bad Teacher and Friends with Better Lives, new drama Reckless, and Mike & Molly, which was pushed to midseason for the first time but will have 22 episodes this season.
