On the drama side, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, CSI, Hawaii: Five-0, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, Elementary, and The Good Wife will be returning next season, with The Mentalist, Intelligence, and Hostages left of the renewal flurry.

On the comedy side, 2 Broke Girls, The Millers, Mike & Molly, Mom, and Two and a Half Men will join The Big Bang Theory on the network’s slate for next season. Not receiving a renewal at this time was The Crazy Ones, which has noticeably softened in the ratings in recent weeks. CBS will be premiering two additional comedies (Friends with Better Lives and Bad Teacher) before the end of the season.

In the world of alternative programming, The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss got picked up for next season, joining already renewed Survivor, while 60 Minutes and 48 Hours will also be returning.

Last season, CBS cancelled every series that didn’t receive a renewal in March aside from those that were embroiled in contract negotiations (Criminal Minds and Two and a Half Men), so it’s not a good sign for those that didn’t receive a renewal this go-around. They’re not necessarily dead, but shows like The Crazy Ones and The Mentalist are going to have to overperform for the rest of the season if they have any hope of earning a shot on the schedule.

CBS will be unveiling its schedule for next season, which will include Thursday Night Football, on Wednesday, May 14th.

Netflix scored two slots on the list with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, while other new entries included FX spy drama The Americans, Showtime period drama Masters of Sex, ABC political soap Scandal, and HBO political comedy Veep, the latter of which is coming off Emmy wins for Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale. The rest of the AFI Top 10 of 2013 list was made up of the most recent seasons of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Good Wife, and Game of Thrones.

It’s been a particularly award-heavy time for the TV industry, as the Writers Guild, Producers Guild, and International Press Academy have all announced nominations for their respective awards in recent weeks. Freshman series that have made noise include Masters of Sex and Orange is the New Black, both of which stand a reasonable chance of breaking into Golden Globe, SAG, and Emmy races later in the season.

The ‘Alias’ Alumni has been signed to appear in the CBS Legal Drama, The Good Wife in the upcoming Season 5. With his appearance, CBS continues to star privileged guest- appearances on the show. Garber will be playing a stringent and very particular judge who gradually, is becoming crazy due to ruling over a courtroom which has turned into a madhouse, due to a double jury trial and double defendants and double juries crowded into his trivial courtroom.

The episode with Garber’s guest-appearance will also be a sort-of Alias Reunion, from the creators Robert King and Michelle. Garber’s earlier co-star on the ABC spy series, Mellisa George will also reappear for this season on The Good Wife.

Other guest stars for the upcoming season of The Good Wife comprise of Carrie Preston, Jeffrey Tambor, Ben Rappaport and Stockard Channing. Victor Garber quite lately appeared in the drama Deception, on NBC and was seen in the Oscar winning movie, Argo.

The 2013 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place on Sunday at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, California. It was a big day for Dan Bucatinsky, as the Scandal star won the Emmy for the category of ‘Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series’. Among the other nominees for this category was Michael J. Fox for “The Good Wife”, Robert Morse for “Mad Men”, Nathan Lane for “The Good Wife”, Rupert Friend for “Homeland” and Harry Hamlin for “Mad Men”. Bucatinsky was enthralled to receive his first Emmy, which, in fact was Scandal’s first Emmy as well! Bucatinsky has also been nominated previously as the Executive Producer of “Web Therapy” and “Who Do You Think You Are?”

On the other hand, Carry Preston bagged the Emmy for her performance on “The Good Wife” as she won the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Among the other nominees for the female category were Jane Fonda for HBO’s “The Newsroom”, Linda Cardellini for “Mad Men”, Joan Cusack for “Shameless”, Margo Martindale for “The Americans” and Diana Rigg for “Game of Thrones.”

Carry was equally overwhelmed as this was the first time she was nominated for an Emmy and indeed, her first win! Preston’s character is a recurring one on “The Good Wife” and along with that she is also seen on “Person of Interest” and is a regular on HBO’s “True Blood”. She will be soon returning to “The Good Wife” and will start afresh with the new season of “The Following”. Congratulations to both the artists!

In addition, the first four seasons of critically-acclaimed The Good Wife have been available on Hulu+ since September 1st, a noticeable departure from CBS’s reputation of being the most technologically averse broadcast network. While the likes of ABC and NBC have fully embraced Hulu, Apps, and the new direction that the television has been moving towards for years, CBS has been reticent to buck its (very) successful business model, opting to move full steam ahead with its more traditional approach to television. However, there’s been no sign that the alternative ways of viewing television are going away anytime soon, so in order to make sure it caters to its audience, and doesn’t fall further behind the other networks in adapting, they have to do events like the Catch-Up Marathon, lest they fall too far behind or see drops in live viewing.

It felt like the entire episode of The Good Wife was meant to paint women in a bad light. Regardless of the outcome of the stories, the beginning of them is what counts. Have you ever noticed that when someone is charged with murder news outlets are all over the story, but when they are cleared, the story is dried up and the accused is left with the stigma and no recourse?

When I think of ratings and people watching the first half of a drama and tuning out for the second half, as happens quite frequently, that’s the taste what was left in my mouth. Kalinda and her husband have been playing ugly games since he hit the canvas in the season opener. If Kalinda doesn’t understand what she wants, how can anyone else? Where she was previously a strong, confident woman, she now seems to be using not only her sex but her position at Lockhart and Gardner to drag her husband through the ringer. Even I think that’s ugly behavior, despite his own less-than-honorable intentions.

Dennis O’Hare was back as Judge Abernathy, and it annoyed me no end how he called Alicia’s opposing counsel by his first name. Bucky. Alicia was Mrs. Florrick but a slouching, overly confident Brian Dennehy was Bucky. It appeared that he didn’t take the case seriously. The case was a military woman, Captain Hellinger, accusing an employee of a military outsourcing firm of attempted rape. At stake, are they held accountable under military law or as private citizens?

Most interesting was how Bucky turned around the actions of Captain Hellinger to make her look almost complicit in the crime. The response of many females in the face of fear is to use humor. To “laugh off” the attack instead of provoke someone further. The whole thing was made uglier by Abernathy’s continual use of Bucky’s first name as he ruled against the plaintiff.

We also had Maddie Hayward who not only supported Peter but befriended Alicia, turn tail and announce her own candidacy for Governor against Peter. She did this to coincide with the trumped up charges that will be hitting the news about Peter’s affair with an intern. In her role as friend, she got information from Alicia she could easily use against Peter in the gubernatorial race. While she claimed it all came about as a complete shock to her, when you look back at her actions, they seemed pretty well planned out.

Finally, Jackie is off her rocker. Never a beloved character, with her dementia she’s become grating and offensive. Alicia’s idea to find a man to take care of her was ingenious, and his response to her was quite refreshing. Peter and Alicia do make a pretty good team when it comes right down to it.

Who would have thought when The Good Wife permiered that Peter Florrick would end up being the ray of light with regard to women? He’s truly turned over a new leaf and treats his wife and his mother with the utmost respect and caring.
