“We are huge fans of Bo Burnham and the entire creative and talented team behind Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous. After careful consideration of many factors, we have ultimately decided not to move forward with an additional season of the series. We wish Bo, the cast and the entire production crew the very best,” MTV said in a statement.

The cancellation continues MTV’s recent string of scripted disappointments, as Zach Stone joins Skins, The Inbetweeners, and I Just Want My Pants Back in the one-season-and-done category. While Teen Wolf premiered to series high ratings and has mostly kept the ship afloat during its first four episodes of season three, Awkward said goodbye to its creator Lauren Iungerich today after ratings plummeted following the season three premiere, with the search for a new showrunner beginning immediately. The only pilot currently still in contention at MTV is its Scream adaptation, though little information has been made available about it in recent months.

In addition to Burnham, Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous starred Kari Coleman, Tom Wilson, Cameron Palatas, Caitlin Gerard, and Armen Weitzman.

The network also confirmed that Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous has been pushed back to 11:00, with Money From Strangers assuming its 10:30 slot from here on. The Bo Burham comedy has struggled in the ratings since its debut and after hitting series lows last week, MTV made the move to lessen the impact it has on their primetime schedule. While not officially canceled, Zach Stone is a dead show walking and unless ratings make enormous strides over the final half of its season, it won’t be continuing for a second season. The show stars Burham as a directionless high school graduate who eschews the college path his friends take and decides to pursue his goal of becoming famous. However, the path to infamy for the former outsider proves to be more difficult than expect. On MTV’s upcoming scripted comedy Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous, Zach Stone (Bo Burnham), a fresh-out-of-high school teenager, decides to put college on hold to film a reality show. Granted, he’s doing this all on his own dime and doesn’t have a network commitment that the footage he shoots will even make it to air. Regardless, he wants to become the latest overnight celebrity and hires a camera crew to follow him around as he tries anything he can think of to make waves and get a little attention. From becoming a celebrity chef to a ring-tone recording artist to purposefully going missing, Zach Stone is going to be famous whether anybody likes it or not – even though he has no discernible talent.

In addition to Burnham, Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous stars Kari Coleman (The Amazing Spider-Man) as Mrs. Stone; Tom Wilson (Back to the Future) as Mr. Stone; Cameron Palatas (Disney Channel’s A.N.T. Farm) as Andy Stone; Caitlin Gerard (Magic Mike) as Amy; and Armen Weitzman (Greek) as Greg. Additional cast includes Shelley Hennig (The Secret Circle) as Christy.

The series premiere of Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous will air Thursday, May 2nd at 10:30 on MTV.
