Banshee has been a strong win for Cinemax, generating buzz, drawing solid ratings, and aligning itself to become the channel mainstay that Strike Back became upon its breakout. While Cinemax has yet to match up with premium power players HBO and Showtime, it’s well on its way to building a reputation as the home for exciting programming with the type of edge that cannot be found anywhere else. The network’s next original scripted series will be 10-episode medical drama The Knick, to star Clive Owen and premiere sometime this coming summer.

Created by Alan Ball (True Blood), Banshee stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con who manipulates his way into becoming the sheriff of Banshee, Pennsylvania, a rural town deep in the heart of Amish country. Once there, he finds that his former partner-in-crime Carrie (Ivana Milicevic) has also sought refuge in the town, only in her case, she’s trying to go legitimate by marrying the Banshee prosecutor and having children. Soon enough, though, figures from Lucas’ and Carrie’s past begin hunting them down and the two will have to do whatever it takes to protect themselves and the ones they love.

In addition to Starr, Banshee stars Ivana Milicevic (Casino Royale) as jewel thief Carrie Hopewell, hiding in plain sight in Banshee, Pennsylvania; Ulrich Thomsen (Festen) as intimidating businessman Kai Proctor, whose reach might extend beyond the bounds of law; Frankie Faison (The Silence of the Lambs) as a former boxer who owns the town bar; Ben Cross (Star Trek) as crime boss Mr. Rabbit, who has been looking for his top two thieves ever since they separated themselves from him nearly two decades ago; and Rus Blackwell (Monster) as Carrie’s husband Gordon, a powerful attorney and veteran of the Gulf War who has no idea about his wife’s decidedly checkered past.

Joining the cast this season will be Emmy winner Zeljko Ivanek (Damages) as a renegade FBI agent who has been on Rabbit’s trail for the past fifteen years; Tatanka Means (Tiger Eyes) as Hoyt Rivers, in charge of Alex Longshadow’s security; and Julian Sands (24) as a dangerously amoral Ukrainian priest.

-At their TCA session, NBC revealed that reality-competition series Fashion Star has been canceled after two seasons, while Celebrity Apprentice is currently casting (but hasn”t been renewed as of yet) and canceled Anne Heche comedy Save Me shot 13 episodes, seven of which won”t air. In addition, pilots Wonderland and The Donor Party are said to be on hold, The Gilded Age (from Downton Abbey“s Julian Fellowes) is alive, and Dick Wolf”s Girlfriend in a Coma is in negotiations with David Frankel to executive produce and direct.

-NBC also gave a peek into their miniseries development cycle. Aside from A.D., After the Bible, which will premiere during the 2014-2015 season, the network has projects in the works based on Cleopatra, Hillary Clinton, Rosemary”s Baby, Stephen King”s Tommyknockers, and the Pilgrims” journey to Plymouth.

-Syfy has greenlit Dominion, based on 2007 fantasy/horror film Legion, to pilot. Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed Legion, is back to direct the pilot, which is set 25 years in the future after a war between an army of angels and mankind.

-Casting news: Jurnee Smollett has joined the fifth season of Parenthood, where she”ll be playing Kristina”s political campaign manager Heather in a major recurring role; Sam Elliott Ron Swanson”s Eagletonian doppleganger on an upcoming episode of Parks and Recreation, the same one that will feature Kristen Bell as Eagleton”s Leslie Knope; American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy announced that Denis O”Hare will be appearing on the show”s third season, though no details about his role were disclosed; in addition to recurring on HBO”s upcoming medical comedy Getting On, Emmy nominee Molly Shannon is set to recur on Raising Hope as the new owner of Howdy”s, beginning with the fourth episode of the season; ER vet Parminder Nagra has joined NBC”s The Blacklist and a mentor to one of the female FBI agents; Heidi Klum and Henry Winkler will be stopping by Parks and Recreation next season, playing the mayor of a small Danish town and Jean-Ralphio”s father, respectively; Rome“s Indira Varma to play Ellaria Sand on the fourth season of Game of Thrones, premiering next spring; Steve Cabral is the latest to join ABC Family”s Ravenswood and Raymond Collins.

-The Hub has announced their first Halloween bash, set to air October 26th. The event will celebrate the best of  Halloween, including the first-ever nationwide costume competition with one  finalist being chosen from every state in America. Details are set to be released in August.

–Please Like Me, a scripted comedy from Australian comic Josh Thomas, has been renewed for a second season by Pivot. The series, which debuts August 1st, stars Thomas as 20-year-old Josh, whose life becomes in disarray when he”s broken up with by his girlfriend, realizes he might be gay, and moves in with his suicidal mother. -The ESPN 30 for 30 series of documentaries will add six new entries this fall: October 1st – Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau (centering on big wave surfer Eddie Aikau); October 8th – Free Spirits (a look at former ABA franchise Spirits of St. Louis); October 15th – No Mas (analyzing the infamous boxing match between Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard); October 22nd – Big Shot (about the 1996 New York Islanders); October 29th – This is What They Want (following the improbable run of tennis great Jimmy Connors at the 1991 U.S. Open); and November 5th – Tonya and Nancy (chronicling the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics).

-Key art for four CBS fall series has been released. Included are Robin Williams comedy The Crazy Ones; Chuck Lorre-created Mom; family comedy The Millers; and We Are Men, which will air Mondays at 8:30. Art for the network”s lone new fall drama Hostages was also recently released. Miss any of the news that came from Comic-Con? TVHackr has compiled every trailer (featuring new footage) and news item that was released during 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, which came to an end yesterday. The post doesn’t include special panel videos, the panels themselves, series highlight reels, or trailers that have already been posted.

There will be two additional new faces joining Arrow this season, as Kevin Alejandro (True Blood) and Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite) are set to play vengeful alderman Sebastian Blood (aka Brother Blood) and Ben Taylor, a claw-wielding assassin otherwise known as the Bronze Tiger, respectively. The latter will also be forming an alliance with China White.

-Amy Acker (Angel) has been promoted to a series regular on Person of Interest, where she’s portrayed Machiavellian cyber-hacker Root in seven episodes. There’ll also be an opportunity for fans to join in the series with the Person of Interest Social Photo Opportunity, which will give the show’s fans on Facebook the ability to submit photos for a chance to become a “person of interest” at some point during season three. Information will be released in the coming weeks on the Person of Interest Facebook page.

-AMC has announced that Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick will be anchoring Talking Bad, its recently announced Breaking Bad aftershow that will air every Sunday at 11:00 beginning August 11th. Like Dead, Talking Bad features Hardwick recapping that night’s Breaking Bad episode, taking questions and comments from viewers, and interviewing those associated with the show (actors, producers) and TV experts alike. The final eight episodes of Breaking Bad will premiere earlier that night at 9:00.

-A balloon of Finn and Jake from Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time will fly in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 28th. It marks the first time the Emmy nominated animated series will be featured.

–Per TVLine, Supernatural executive producer Bob Singer confirmed that a spin-off of the show is in the works. Reportedly to be centered on a new character via a backdoor pilot later in the season, the series is said to be more “citified” than its mothership. The ninth season of Supernatural is set to premiere Tuesday, October 15th at 9:00.

–Revolution has added Stephen Collins (7th Heaven) to its cast for the second season. The veteran actor will be playing Rachel’s father, according to TV Guide.

-A Simpsons/Family Guy crossover will be airing in the fall of 2014, according to FOX. “The Simpsons Guy” finds the Griffins ending up in Springfield and being fully embraced by the Simpson family. Also in Family Guy news, the show is having a contest for those who think they have the best Stewie Griffin impression around. Fans can send in their best Stewie on the I am Stewie section of FamilyGuy.com, with the winner (selected by producers) having their voice featured in the upcoming season premiere and earning a three-day/two-night trip for two to attend Family Guy Live at the Just4Laughs Festival in Toronto, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.

-As reported by Entertainment Weekly, guest stars for the upcoming season of Family Guy include Peter Dinklage, Liam Neeson, Dennis Farina, Ashton Kutcher, Conan O’Brien, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Daniels, Jon Cryer, and Adam Levine, while American Dad will be seeing the likes of Mariah Carey, Ellie Kemper, Zooey Deschanel, Mark Cuban, Stanley Tucci, Olivia Wilde, Alison Brie, Sinbad, Mae Whitman, T.J. Miller, Alan Thicke, and Pete Holmes.

–Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has cast Lost alum Naveen Andrews as Jafar, the evil Royal Vizier of Agrabah first seen in Aladdin, according to TV Guide.

-USA has revealed the winner of the Psych fan-voted storyline contest. The network gave the show’s fanbase the chance to decide on a storyline for an upcoming season eight episode and the winner turned out to be “A Nightmare on State Street,” an episode that will feature Gus in dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors. Also announced was a two-hour musical episode, set to air Sunday, December 15th; Gus and Shawn will have to track down a playwright deemed criminally insane and eventually get led back to someone from Shawn’s past.

Banshee stars Antony Starr as ex-con Lucas Hood on the run from the mob. To protect himself, he heads to the tiny town of Banshee, Pennsylvania and assumes the identity of the town sheriff, though he doesn’t cease his criminal activities upon settling into his new location. While Hood may think that he’s too off the radar to be tied back to his former self and that he has free reign in such a desolate place, that’s not so. The target is on his back once again and Hood has to find a way to keep order in the town, continue his thievery, and prepare to face the gangsters that are hunting him down. With time on his side and his former criminal partner in town, Lucas Hood might be able to exorcise the demons from his past once and for all.

In addition to Starr, Banshee stars Frankie Faison as Sugar Bates, a former boxer who owns a popular local bar; Ivana Milicevic as Carrie Hopewell, Hood’s former partner who is also hiding out in Banshee under a new identity; Rus Blackwell as Gordon Hopewell, Carrie’s DA husband; Ryann Shane as Deva Hopewell, Carrie and Gordon’s daughter; Ben Cross as Mr. Rabbit, a Ukrainian gangster hunting for Lucas and Carrie; and Ulrich Thomsen as Proctor, a Bansee businessman who looks at himself as being above the law.

The series premiere of Banshee airs Friday, January 11th at 10:00 on Cinemax.
