Starz has announced that period drama Outlander has been renewed for a second season, which is set to contain at least 13 episodes and will be based on second Outlander novel Dragonfly in Amber.
“The overwhelming support Outlander has received from the fans, viewers and critics made the decision for us to go ahead with the second book a very easy one. Diana Gabaldon has given us years of great drama. With an incredible artist such as Ronald D. Moore at the helm and a cast as spectacular as this, we look forward to continue this spell-binding journey with Claire, Jamie, Frank, Brianna, Roger and everybody over the centuries,” said Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht.
Based on the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon and adapted for television by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), Outlander follows married World War II nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) as she’s mysteriously transported back to 18th century Scotland and forced to align herself with warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). To her surprise, she begins falling for Jamie and her feelings about returning home become all the more muddled, as she finds herself caught between two men, two lives, and two time periods. In addition to Balfe and Heughan, Outlander stars Lotte Verbeek (The Borgias), Tobias Menzies (Rome), Graham McTavish (Empire), and Duncan Lacroix (Game of Thrones).
Outlander airs Saturdays at 9:00 on Starz. You can check out a preview of the next episode below.
