Big Brother will be premiering early again this summer, with the controversial reality-competition series set to debut Wednesday, June 25th at 8:00. The live eviction show, which airs on Thursdays, bows the following day at 9:00, while the Sunday broadcast premieres June 29th at 9:00. Said Sunday broadcast will lead off a night of new programming, as legal drama Reckless premieres at June 29th at 9:00 and crime drama Unforgettable returns to the schedule at 10:00 the same night. Taking place in South Carolina, Reckless tells the story of a police sex scandal that brings a Yankee litigator and southern attorney together. The series stars Cam Gigandet (Easy A), Anna Wood (Chronicle), Shawn Hatosy (Southland), Adam Rodriguez (Ugly Betty), and Kim Wayans (In Living Color).

CBS will be adding to its genre stable with sci-fi drama Extant. Executive produced by Stephen Spielberg, the series stars Oscar winner Halle Berry as an astronaut trying to reconnect with her family after returning from a year-long mission. In addition to Berry, Extant stars Goran Visjnic (ER), Camryn Manheim (The Practice), Hiroyuki Sanada (Helix), Grace Gummer (Zero Hour), and Michael O’Neill (Transformers). Extant joins fellow genre series Under the Dome on the CBS summer schedule, with the Stephen King adaptation to premiere its second season Monday, June 30th at 10:00.

The move toward providing more scripted programming in the summer, and something of a year-round schedule, is something that the broadcast networks have been moving toward over the past couple of years, but thus far, none have had anywhere near the success that CBS had with Under the Dome. Despite the novel’s reception, it was still something of a shocking performance, considering that the show is outside the network’s content comfort zone and put up numbers during the summer that many shows during the season would kill to hit or even come near. As such, it makes sense that CBS would want to strike while the iron’s hot and continue delving into limited-run drama programming, but the decision to keep Under the Dome at 10:00 and not use it to give Extant a boost is a curious one; they may not sound like sister shows or anything, but when you get this once in a blue moon type of success, you use it to foster other success and then worry about expanding nights.

Under the Dome will have its second season premiere, which promises the deaths of two series regular characters, penned by Stephen King, whose novel provided the inspiration for the series. This past summer, Under the Dome became summer’s #1 program, averaging 15.06 million viewers and 3.9/11 in adults 18-49, ranking as the most-watched scripted summer series in 21 years.

One of the hottest properties of the development season, Extant tells the story of a female astronaut (Berry) who has to adjust to life on Earth after spending the last year in space. Also attached to the series, created by Mickey Fisher (The King of Iron Town, Summer Nuts), are Camryn Manheim, Pierce Gagnon, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

“We’re excited to tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester’s Mill, and are thrilled to have the master storyteller himself, Stephen King, tell the first one of next season,” said CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler.

Under the Dome has been a monumental success for CBS this summer, averaging 13.84 million viewers and a 3.5 in adults 18-49, and could continue to be a success now that it’s confirmed to be only a summer series. Had CBS brought it back during the season, a little of its ratings mojo could have been lost, leaving what could be a long-lasting summer tent pole damaged beyond repair. Now, though, the show could pave the way for the network to try more original scripted series during the summer and take more chances than they would have without its success.

Starring the likes of Mike Vogel, Rachelle Leferve, and Dean Norris, Under the Dome tells the story of Chester’s Mill, a small town in Maine that becomes encased within a mysterious dome. The town’s residents have to figure out where the dome came from and how they’re going to survive while living underneath it, as well as what it will take to make the dome disappear. Will they ever make it out from under the dome?

Under the Dome airs Mondays at 10:00 on CBS and is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, where its been the number one scripted series since its debut.

-Former Sportcenter anchor Keith Olbermann has signed on to host a late night talk show for ESPN 2. Beginning Monday, August 26th at 11:00 p.m., the anchor, who has been seen on MSNBC and Current TV, will head Olbermann, said to focus on the day’s relevant sports topics through a mix of perspective and commentary,  interviews, contributors, panel discussions, and highlights.

-James Franco (This is the End) is set to guest star on the first two episodes of The Mindy Project‘s second season. The actor will be playing Dr. Leotard, a former model turned physician who replaces Mindy at Shulman & Associates while she’s volunteering in Haiti.

-The CW will kick off its fall season with the two-night presentation of the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival, beginning September 30th. Scheduled to appear are Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, J. -Composer Bear McCreary has been tapped to serve as series music composer for Starz’s upcoming pirate drama Black Sails, which debuts in January 2014. McCreary’s series credits include Da Vinci’s Demons, Battlestar Galactica, and The Walking Dead.

-ABC has officially renewed Canadian import Rookie Blue for a fifth season. The series currently airs Thursdays at 10:00.

-Per The Hollywood Reporter, Ravenswood has recast the role of Olivia, which had been filled by model Elizabeth Whitson earlier this year. Instead, due to a different character direction and only a week before pilot filming, Merritt Patterson will now play the role. Patterson had previously been cast as Olivia’s best friend and there’s been no word who’ll fill her role as a result of the bump up.

-According to TVLine, the cast of ABC’s soap Mistresses has had their contracts extended through September, meaning that the network is mulling over a potential second season renewal. The season finale is set to air September 9th.

-Nelson Franklin (Veep) has joined CBS’s The Millers as a series regular, while Australian comedian Kate Jenkinson has boarded ABC’s Super Fun Night as a neurotic Type A lawyer.

-Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in Sundance Channel”s original mini-series The Honourable Woman, where she”s the first official casting announcement. The thriller, written by Hugo Blick and set to premiere in 2014, is set against an international political backdrop and features Gyllenhaal as the daughter of a Zionist arms dealer who assumes his business and uses those resources to better the area between Israel and the West Bank. Her appointment to the House of Lords, meanwhile, causes a political maelstrom.

-Brian Austin Green has been tapped as a series regular on Anger Management, per The Hollywood Reporter. He”ll be reprising his role as Jen”s boyfriend and will act as a foil for Charlie.

-Ahead of its July 11th premiere, Orange Is the New Black has been renewed for a second season by Netflix. The next 13 episodes in the journey of imprisoned Brooklynite Piper Chapman will begin production later this year for a 2014 debut. The series stars Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, and Jason Biggs. -Gail O”Grady and Michelle Harrison are set to star in The Mystery Cruise, a two-hour backdoor pilot for Hallmark Channel based on “The Santa Cruise” by New York Times bestselling authors Mary Higgins Clark and  Carol Higgins Clark. The series would follow lottery winner Alvirah Meehan (O”Grady) and her best friend Regan Reilly (Harrison), a private investigator, as they team up to solve crimes.

-Fourth of July weekend will find the first three seasons of The Walking Dead being replayed on AMC, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on July 4th. The marathon will be hosted by director Kevin Smith and feature interviews with cast and crew, as well as behind-the-scenes footage from season four, currently in production. The 4th will find season one played twice, once in black-and-white, while season two will play on the 5th and season three will be split up between the 6th and 7th.

–Happy Endings is officially dead after three seasons, according to Deadline, as the former ABC comedy”s cast options expire this weekend and producer Sony TV finally called it quits in finding a new home for the show.

-Beginning August 4th, Discovery”s annual Shark Week will feature several new programs, including late-night talk show Shark After Dark and Shark Cam, a robot submarine that is used to track sharks in a new and exciting way. Also included is the first time real shark attack footage captured by eye-witnesses, which will premiere during I Escaped Jaws.

-Ovation has acquired the rights to both seasons of Smash and will begin replaying the troubled NBC production on Friday, July 19th at 8:00. Season two will premiere in the same timeslot in November.

-ABC will rebroadcast the first episode of murder mystery reality-competition series Whodunnit? on Saturday, June 29th at 10:00. The show airs Sundays at 9:00.

-Could David Bowie be heading to Hannibal? E!Online that creator Bryan Fuller wants to get the rock star on board for a second season arc. But who will he be playing and how will he fit into the Hannibal-verse?

-OWN has ordered an additional 16 episodes of Tyler Perry drama The Haves and Have Nots, bringing its first season episode total to 32. The show”s current 16-episode cycle will air through September 3 with the new episodes  premiering in early 2014. There”s been no word yet on any additional episodes for comedy Love Thy Neighbor, the network”s other attempt at getting into the scripted programming game.

–Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul and House of Cards’ Kate Mara have been tapped to announce the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations on Thursday, July 18. Paul is a two-time winner for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama.

-Netflix will debut Mako Mermaids, a sequel to H20 – Just Add Water, on July 26th, when all 13 episodes will be made available. Following on where H2O – Just Add Water left off, mischievous teen mermaids  Lyla, Nixie and Sirena, guardians of Mako Island, fail to stop 16 year old boy Zac from falling into the sacred Moon Pool and becoming a Merman.

Cable got an additional honoree in FX’s The Bridge, an adaptation of Scandinavian crime drama Bron that follows a detectives from Mexico and the United States as they try and solve a murder case. On the broadcast side, CBS summer show Under the Dome, originally developed at Showtime, was honored prior to its June 24th series premiere. -“The Leak…” – It’s crunch time and James goes into serious training to be in top form for Dancing with the Stars. Luther is tasked with keeping James on a strict regimen, but leave it to a jealous Chloe to try and sabotage it. Still, that’s the least of their worries when embarrassing photos of James leak all over the internet.

-“Monday June…” – June has been so stressed and consumed with work that she has no time for anything else, including Chloe. Chloe’s remedy for this is to slip June an herbal relaxant, but the next thing June knows, it’s Tuesday, and Monday is a complete blackout. As she tries to piece together what happened, June discovers some surprising things about herself. Meanwhile, James grapples with the idea that he may have impregnated June’s friend, Crissy, on her wedding day.

-“Teddy Trouble…” – With the help of Teddy, her childhood friend from psychopath camp, Chloe prepares for the imminent battle-royale at an annual department store warehouse sale. However, she is uncharacteristically distracted by the return of Benjamin who, June insists, is Chloe’s true love. Meanwhile, James is disappointed to learn his Beek-brand jeans are not selling as well as expected.

-“The D…” – When Chloe gives June a ‘D’ on her yearly roommate evaluation, June correctly assumes the poor mark is due to her anemic social life. In order to up her grade, she agrees to go on a blind date with James’ agent’s assistant, Will. The pair hits it off, that is until June realizes they know a person in common. Meanwhile, Luther helps James prepare for an audition with Woody Allen.

-“The Seven Year Bitch…” – When Chloe uses her time-honored veto power to try to force James to break up with his new girlfriend, James decides to buck tradition and continue seeing the girl. Needless to say, Chloe doesn’t take the rebuff well, and so she and James decide to take some time off from their seven-year friendship. A devastated June does her best not to choose sides, but she and Luther soon discover how Chloe and James’ lives are drastically affected by their time apart.

-“Using People…” – June is shocked to discover that Chloe has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings solely to have a captive audience for her stories… and to score free liquor. As June gives Chloe an earful for using people for her own ends, Chloe points out that hypocrite June has been taking advantage of Mark and his unrequited feelings for her, leading June to the realization that maybe she has stronger feelings for Mark than she’s been willing to admit. Meanwhile, worried he’s too “light weight” to be cast by Martin Scorsese, James tries to add some depth to his character by co-opting others’ tales of woe.

-“Ocupado…” – As Chloe and Benjamin’s sex-fueled relationship amps up, each admits to currently having additional sex partners in their “rotations.” While this revelation comes as no surprise – or deterrent — to either, Chloe is uncharacteristically jealous when she learns that she is number two on his roster, while Ben is her number one. Meanwhile, while working on a commercial, James competes with director Ben for the crew’s affections.

-“Original Bitch…” – Ten years before June moved to New York, Chloe moved into Apartment 23 and met her new roommate, Trish… the original “bitch.” After taking Chloe under her wing and teaching her everything she knew about bitch-itude, Trish betrayed Chloe and disappeared. Now, thanks to the services of a private investigator, Chloe’s got a lead on Trish and, with June in tow, sets off to exact her long-awaited revenge. Meanwhile, James learns his father isn’t his real father. Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) and famed Latin singer and actress Charo appear as themselves.

–The Voice will continue to alter its judging panel, as Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green are set to return for the show’s fifth season in the fall. For the sixth season, to debut after the Winter Olympics, current judges Shakira and Usher will return. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will be present through both cycles of the hit singing competition. The current cycle of The Voice is averaging a 5.2 rating, 14 share in adults 18-49 and 14.5 million viewers overall on Monday nights, making it the season’s #3 primetime series on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, as well as the #2 entertainment series and the #1 reality series, according to “most current” results from Nielsen Media Research.

-Syfy has announced that Warehouse 13 has been renewed for a fifth and final season. The six-episode installment is set to air in 2014, while the show is currently finishing out its fourth season. Warehouse 13 airs Mondays at 10:00 following Defiance, which has already been renewed for a second season.

-SOAPnet has announced a One Tree Hill Father’s Day marathon for June 16th. Here are the episodes included:

10AM –  “To Wish Impossible Things” – Jake, Nathan and Lucas are sold to the highest bidder for charity in the annual Tree Hill “Boy Toy” Auction. Jake’s mysterious winning bid turns out to be Nicki, his former flame who abandoned both him and Jenny, their nine-month-old daughter. Nicki mistakenly thinks the two can reconnect, but Jake takes the opportunity to school her on the repercussions of her abandonment.

11AM –  “All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone” – Nathan and Haley leave their high school graduation ceremony when Haley goes into labor with their son Jamie. Karen’s delivery does not go well, and a momentary loss of life lets her, Keith and their daughter share a moment in heaven. Two weeks later, Haley and Nathan are nervous to attend a party and be away from the baby for the first time. Dan turns himself in to the police for Keith’s murder and is tormented by his sins in prison.

12PM –  “Things a Mama Don’t Know” – Peyton, spilling tears of joy, tells her fiancé Lucas that he’s going to be her “baby daddy”. Jamie is proud to hear that his father, Nathan, has been picked up as a point guard by the Charleston Chiefs basketball team. Lucas finds himself in the middle of a father-son feud in Hollywood, which gives him the opportunity to reflect on the type of father he wants to be. Brooke’s motherly instinct helps her track down her runaway foster daughter, and brings an end to two violent crimes that have haunted Tree Hill.

1PM – “A Hand To Take Hold of The Scene” – Lucas and Peyton have an exhausting trial run as parents when they babysit for the night.

-TNT has unveiled its scheduling for the 2013 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, which pits the Miami Heat against the Indiana Pacers.

-USA has greenlit two comedies, both of which will debut in the first quarter of 2014. Sirens, from Denis Leary and Bob Fisher, follows three of Chicago’s best EMTs whose sometimes silly, self-righteous and even self-destructive personalities make them unqualified for sustaining relationships, friendships and most occupations. Meanwhile, Playing House, which stars Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, is a single-camera buddy comedy about what happens when two best friends come back together, just when they need each other most.

That’s because the town has been sealed off from the outside world by an invisible force field solid enough to make planes crash and divide families. No one can come in through the field and no one can leave, leaving Chester’s Mill to have to figure out how to unseal themselves and embrace the world once again. The townspeople have no idea how the barrier got there, what it’s made of, why it’s up, or what will make it go away, if anything at all. With a small team of residents entrusted to keep everyone calm and the town running in order, there naturally springs up an enemy in a local political, hell-bent on acquiring all the power for himself and become the supreme leader of the town. Will he be able to usurp the structure already implemented after the dome appeared or will he face too much resistance and back down? What will it take for the threat to be neutralized once and for all?

Though not finished casting, Under the Dome will feature Alex Koch, Britt Robertson, Colin Ford, Jolene Purdy, Natalie Martinez, and Nicholas Strong.

Under the Dome premieres Monday, June 24th at 10:00 on CBS. The first season is set to consist of 13 episodes.
