Variety is reporting that NBC has changed the premiere date for upcoming procedural The Mysteries of Laura. Rather than debuting the Debra Messing vehicle on Wednesday, September 24th at 8:00, the network will be giving the series a one-episode sneak peek behind the America’s Got Talent finale. The first episode of The Mysteries of Laura will now air Wednesday, September 17th at 10:00, with its time slot premiere coming the following week.
With ABC and CBS premiering their 10:00 dramas the following week, The Mysteries of Laura should be able to get some good sampling for its premiere, as competition will be light and it should have a strong lead-in from Got Talent. Last year, the talent competition brought in nearly 12 million viewers for its season finale and hit a 2.5 in the 18-49 demo, numbers that would help give The Mysteries of Laura the jump start that it might need if it’s to find its footing on a tough night.
The Mysteries of Laura stars Emmy winner Messing as Laura Diamond, a NYPD homicide detective who has difficulty balancing her robust professional life with her stressful home life. Diamond might be one of the prized detectives in her division, but awaiting her at home are her rebellious twin sons and the divorce papers her husband refuses to sign. In addition to Messing, The Mysteries of Laura stars Josh Lucas (The Firm), Laz Alonso (Deception), and Janina Gavankar (The L Word).
