HBO Acquires Doll & Em from Newsroom Star

Deadline is reporting that HBO has aquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to Doll & Em, a comedy series from King Bee Productions, a British Comedy production company launched by Emily Mortimer and husband Alessandro Nivola.

The series was created by Mortimer, and fellow British actress Dolly Wells (The Mighty Boosh), originally for an arm of British Sky Broadcasting.  Currently the show stands at 6, half-hour episodes.

Doll & Em depicts the friendship of a British Hollywood star who hires a childhood friend to be her personal assistant.  Mortimer and Wells co-wrote with director Azazel Jacobs (Momma’s Man), while Nivola is a member of the production team.

Emily Mortimer currently stars as Mackenzie McHale on HBO’s The Newsroom.  Alessandro Nivola can be seen in the upcoming David O. Russell film, American Hustle.
