Deadline is reporting that Starz has opted to not pick up a third season of period drama Magic City. The series marks the second consecutive two-seasons-and-done drama for the upstart premium cable network, as Boss was concluded last November following its second season, though there’s been talk of a television movie.
“We are tremendously proud of the series and everyone involved. From the writers, to the cast and crew, it has been an incredible collaboration. This was a story born from Mitch Glazer’s singular vision of Miami, the Magic City of his childhood, and we are grateful to him for bringing it to life on Starz. The season’s story arc will allow us to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series, and we thank all the fans who checked in to the Miramar Playa,” the network said in a statement released today.
Starz has been busy ordering noisier fare in recent months, picking up a second season of Michael Bay pirate drama Black Sails six months before it airs and ordering an adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series of novels. Also in the pipeline at the network, which also ended Spartacus after three seasons, are Power (from The Good Wife‘s Courtney Kemp Agboh) and Fortitude (about a town rocked by its first ever violent crime), both of which will debut sometime in 2014. Currently the most tenured series on the network is David S. Goyer’s Da Vinci’s Demons, having premiered this past April and received a second season order after only one episode had aired.
The series finale of Magic City airs Friday at 9:00 on Starz. You can check out a recap of the most recent episode here.
