TVLine is reporting that Alanna Ubach (Hung) has joined the cast of Bravo drama Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. She’s set to play Jo, Abby’s blunt best friend from college who comes to Los Angeles to help her through her divorce. The casting comes on the heels of original series regular Janeane Garofalo’s exit from the project, though her character’s arc is said to come to a natural conclusion.
Based on the Vicki Iovine novels of the same name and adapted for television by Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce follows self-help author Abby (Lisa Edelstein), who has built quite a professional reputation thanks to her writings about family, marriage, and love. However, she inadvertently reveals that she’s separating from her husband and puts everything she worked so hard for in danger of collapsing around her. Now she not only has to do damage control on her career, she has to navigate the Los Angeles singles scene as a divorced 40-something; the latter of which forces her to turn to her divorced friends Phoebe (Beau Garrett) and Lyla (Garofalo) in order to figure out how to avoid the mistakes she made the first time around.
In addition to her role on the HBO comedy, Ubach has appeared on the likes of See Dad Run, Californication, and Men of a Certain Age.
Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce is set to premiere Tuesday, December 2nd at 10:00 on Bravo. You can check out the first trailer for the series here.
