It’s been confirmed that the third season of American Horror Story will feature two additional cast members with experience in the Ryan Murphy universe. Taissa Farmiga, who played Violet Harmon in season one, is set to make her American Horror Story return, while Frances Conroy has signed on for her third season of madness, as well. Information about who the two women will be playing has yet to be revealed.
The third season of American Horror Story is said to be ambitious “evil glamour” set in modern times, though there’ll be the time jumping we saw in Asylum, as well as a Romeo & Juliet youth story a’la Tate and Violet. Additionally, the show is rumored to be shooting in a place where real horror has taken place, though there’ll be amped up humor and a lighter tone to compensate for the spookier location. Speculation has put the theme as being magic and witches in Salem, which would make sense given multiple musical cues in Asylum (“I Put a Spell on You”, “Love Potion No.9”) and the heavily female (at this point) cast.
Also returning to American Horror Story for season three are Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Jessica Lange. Peters will reportedly be playing a role closer to the “sobbing psychopath” that was Tate from season one, while Lange’s role will be decidedly more glamorous than her stripped down turn as a nun gone mad in season two. No other information about the third season has been released to this point; much of the details about Asylum leaked closer to the spring/summer, so it’s only a matter of time before we get a picture of what season three will look like.
American Horror Story resumes production this coming summer for a third season fall premiere. The third season will likely have 13 episodes and premiere in October.
Who else would you like to see return to the show? Do you think that American Horror Story is leaning too heavily on its current/former cast members? If you could cast anyone on the show, who would it be and why?
