Part of the charm of Tina Belcher is her teenage awkwardness. Everyone, no matter how cool, calm, and put together they may seem now, has had a Tina moment and that kind of relatability has made her a great character for Bob’s Burgers. However, while the social awkwardness may be endlessly endearing, it can get her into trouble.
On the next episode of Bob’s Burgers, Tina gets an impromptu driving lesson from her father that turns into something more than either of them expected. While out running errands, Bob decides to let Tina behind the wheel for the first time; his father let him drive at about her age and since they’re in an empty parking lot at the moment, he figured that now’s as good a time as ever.
Except that the parking lot isn’t empty. Tina, initially very cautious and apprehensive, can’t seem to make a turn or bring the car to a complete stop. Bob can’t get through to her and before he can do anything about it, she (slowly) crashes into the only other car in the parking lot, severely damaging the Belcher’s vehicle. The other car, of course, doesn’t really have any dents on it, so a fun day out and a nice deal on napkins has become one giant headache for the Belcher family.
As a result of her auto accident, Tina gets the family involved with a slimy insurance agent (guest voice Bob Odenkirk) and comes to think of herself as the Belcher family jinx. However, Tina is just going through the type of growing pains we’ve come to expect from her and eventually, I think she can find her way. Until she does, it should be fun watching her try.
Bob’s Burgers airs Sunday at 8:30 on FOX.
How have you been enjoying this season of Bob’s Burgers? Do you think Tina is the Belcher family jinx or is she just an unlucky, misunderstood teenager? When you learned to drive, did you have an experience similar to Tina’s?
