Single Ladies Picked Up for a Fourth Season by Centric

Deadline is reporting that VH1 romantic drama Single Ladies, cancelled after three seasons on February 28th, has been revived by BET spin-off Centric. The series will air a fourth season on the network formerly known as BET Jazz, its third season having wrapped March 24th; this will be Centric’s first original scripted series, though it has aired repeats of the likes of Girlfriends, The Cosby Show, and Moesha.

The cancellation of Single Ladies came as a surprise, seeing as how it was still performing in the ratings (posting its highest premiere night audience yet this past January) and how it helped VH1 get its foot in the door. However, following the exit of the series’ creator, an 18-month hiatus, and the success of dance team drama Hit the Floor, the series became expendable to the network. As a result, Centric has become the latest network to get itself into the crowded scripted game, though it smartly opted against launching something new and picked up something that will likely resonate with its target audience.

Created by Stacey Littlejohn (The Wanda Sykes Show), Single Ladies follows three friends from different backgrounds as they navigate the trials and tribulations of the Atlanta entertainment scene and their increasingly complicated love lives. The series, which began as a two-hour tele-film, stars LisaRaye McCoy-Misick (The Players Club), Charity Shea (The Best Years), Denise Vasi (All My Children), LeToya Luckett (Treme), and D. B. Woodside (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

There’s no word yet on when the fourth season of Single Ladies will premiere or how many episodes Centric picked it up for.
