Three weeks before its television premiere, the pilot episode of upcoming ABC comedy Trophy Wife has been made available on Hulu. ABC.com, and the WATCH ABC app for smart phones and tablets. It’s one of the first pilots of the 2013-2014 season to be officially released and, considering recent trends, will be in a long line of episodes that are put online before their release date in order to stir up buzz and increase sampling of the series.
The series tells the story of party girl Kate (Malin Akerman), who meets and falls in love with Pete (Bradley Whitford), a man with two divorces, two ex-wives, and three children. Although she could have very easily decided to continue living the chaotic, jam-packed life that she had been for years, Kate decides to institute a change to her status quo and marry Pete, wherein she has the family that she always wanted. Of course, when she envisioned having a family one did, she didn’t exactly think that she would be dealing with ex-wives and teenagers within the first year of her marriage, but she’s going to have to learn how to deal with her new environment and all those who inhabit it quickly if she wants things with Pete to remain as good as they have been.
In addition to Akerman and Whitford, Trophy Wife stars Marcia Gay Harden (Damages) as Diane, Pete’s first ex-wife and mother of Hillary (Bailee Madison) and Warren (Ryan Scott Lee); Michaela Watkins (Saturday Night Live) as Jackie, Pete’s second ex-wife and mother of Bert (Albert Tsai); and Natalie Morales (The Middleman) as Meg, Kate’s best friend.
The series premiere of Trophy Wife is set to air Tuesday, September 24th at 9:30 on ABC.
