True Detective: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn Join Season 2

After months of casting rumors, True Detective has confirmed its two leads, as HBO has announced that Colin Farrell (In Bruges) and Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers) have officially join the lauded anthology. Golden Globe winner Farrell is set to play Ray Velcoro, a cop whose allegiance is torn between his department and an intimidating mobster, while Vaughn will portray career criminal Frank Seymon, whose interest in going legit dissipates after the murder of a business partner.
Deadline is reporting that Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) is expected to play one of the other two cop roles, while the hunt continues for someone to play female detective Ani Bezzerides. Rosario Dawson (Sin City), Kelly Reilly (Black Box), Jessica Biel (7th Heaven), Malin Akerman (Trophy Wife), Abigail Spencer (Rectify), Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Jaimie Alexander (Thor: The Dark World), and Brit Marling (Another Earth) were said to be invited to read for series creator Nic Pizzolatto, with Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice) also in the conversation for a place on the series.
The first season of True Detective received mountains of critical acclaim for its direction by Cary Joji Fukunaga and the performances from Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Neither McConaughey nor Harrelson will be back for the second season of True Detective, while Emmy winner Fukunaga will be replaced by Justin Lin, as the Fast & Furious director will direct the first two episodes of season two.
The second season of True Detective will begin production later this fall for a summer 2015 premiere. Additional casting should be announced/confirmed in the coming weeks, as should more concrete information about the seasonal plot.
