Mob City will mark a departure of sorts for TNT, keeping them in the crime genre that most of their programming resides in while expanding stylistically into a period setting (the 1940s) and a decidedly different aesthetic. How audiences respond to the series could determine whether or not TNT will continue to take risks with their development or fall back into strictly producing material similar to what they’ve done in the past.

In addition to McDonough, Mob City stars the likes of Ed Burns (Saving Private Ryan) as Genovese mobster Ben “Bugsy” Siegel; Jeremy Luke (Interpretation) as Mickey Cohen, King of the Los Angeles underworld; Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) as ex-Marine Detective Joe Teague. The show also features the likes of Gregory Itzin (24), Robert Knepper (Prison Break), and Jeffrey DeMunn (The Walking Dead).

Mob City is set to premiere Wednesday, December 4th on TNT.
