Though she’s not as bloodthirsty or power hungry as Catherine, Mary realized that she has to exude a certain amount of toughness if she wants to be taken seriously, especially since she’s effectively alone in the castle with Francis otherwise indisposed. There’s going to be no one there for her for quite a while and as such, Mary must get in touch with her power and learn to embrace what it means to be a ruler; if things were to go sour with Francis, she needs to have the inner strength to keep herself from crumbling and if she’s too busy leaning on him and not building herself up, that strength is never going to develop. But how is Mary going to deal with the fallout that comes from the decisions she makes? Will she be able to stand by her gut and live with the consequences of her iron fist?

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the next three episodes of Reign‘s second season.

Thursday, October 9th – “Drawn and Quartered”
In the aftermath of the plague, a powerful lord discovers that Mary was responsible for the death of his son and demands vengeance, testing the loyalties of Mary, Francis, and Catherine. Francis returns to the castle with Lola and their newborn son, creating tension with Mary. Greer is torn by her loyalty to her fiancé, Lord Castleroy, who blames Leith for his daughter’s demise. Meanwhile, Kenna urges Bash to be formally recognized in his new role.

Thursday, October 16th – “Coronation”
With France in a state of famine, as well as religious and political unrest, Mary looks for a way to feed the people, risking the wrath of a vengeful Lord Narcisse. Francis is preoccupied by the harrowing suspicion that his dead father’s spirit can possess the living and is haunting Francis as revenge for his murder. As Catherine makes excessive and lavish preparations for a coronation ceremony to give the impression of stability to the realm, Bash confronts the reality of a country plagued by fear, bankruptcy, and murder.

Thursday, October 23rd – “The Lamb and the Slaughter”
When a shepherd is attacked by shadowy riders in the night, Bash and Lord Condé investigate what may be the unrest of angry spirits or the beginnings of a religious war. Mary examines her relationship with Lola in light of the upcoming christening, with Francis’ illegitimate child serving as both a bond and an obstacle between them. Greer takes control of her future when Leith returns to court. Meanwhile, Lola feels something is awry when Lord Narcisse introduces his familiar new bride.

Reign airs Thursdays at 9:00 on The CW.

How do you think Lord Narcisse will go about exacting revenge upon those he deems responsible for Edward’s death? Will Mary be able to get over the tension of Lola being back at the castle? Is there any way for Bash to protect the country from succumbing to the ills currently plaguing it?

Her position in Scotland was nothing more than a figurehead and she’s always had Catherine lurking around the castle, clinging to the last of her power as Henry continued to spiral. Now that Henry is gone, Mary is allowed to feel the full force of her power, to assume the positions that she has been groomed for since before she was born. All the pain, all the strife, all the pressure that she’s had to deal with in France – it will all be worth it once she assumes the throne and gets the opportunity to help her country. But will Mary be able to handle herself now that she’s been separated from Francis?

On the season premiere of Reign, Mary is the sole leader in the castle now that Francis has ridden out to be with Lola. Not only do the two have the physical distance between them, which seems all the more vast due to the spreading plague, their emotional distance will only increase when he makes it back to the castle with Lola and his new son – the one thing that Mary hasn’t been able to give him. However, this chance might be the best thing that happened to Mary, as she has the opportunity to get in touch with her power and learn the true value of personal independence. Mary has never been able to live for herself or with the type of agency that she has now, not when her future was earmarked at an early age, and as long as Francis is away, she can grow strong as Queen of France and show herself that she can find fulfillment and success without being tied to another person.

Elsewhere on Reign, Kenna and Bash find themselves separated during the chaotic days of the plague, while Greer is forced to watch as Leith moves on with a new love and figures in the castle attempt to take advantage of Mary’s separation from Francis and seize the power that they deem theirs.

The second season of Reign premieres Thursday, October 2nd at 9:00 on The CW.

How long will it be before Mary and Francis are reunited? Will Greer ever be able to get over Leith, especially now that he’s seeing Lord Castleroy’s daughter? Is the castle going to be able to get a handle on the plague before it gets too much to deal with?

Keeping up with the sheer volume of scripted programming on television can be a daunting task, as there are no longer just the five broadcast networks and the odd cable network to worry about. Now there are broadcast networks, innumerable cable networks, streaming services, and various other companies looking to make their mark in a crowded marketplace, so it’s understandable when something slips under the radar or when audience abandons a show that creatively stumbles.

Which is where TVHackr comes in – we’ve combed through the veteran shows returning in the fall and picked four that are worth the time to catch up on. Surveying the television industry is quite intimidating, so rather than forcing you, dear reader, to scour the internet for information about what’s worth your time or when something returns, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about each of the four shows we’re recommending. In addition to general information like premiere date, premise, and cast, we’ve provided reasons why you should catch up, which episodes you should watch if you’re crunched for time and can’t marathon, and the different avenues where you can catch up on any of these shows.

About a Boy (NBC)
Premiere date: Tuesday, October 14th
Premise: A man-child bachelor living off his past success finds his world turned upside down when a single mother moves next door with her pre-teen son.
Who’s in it: David Walton (Perfect Couples), Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), Benjamin Stockham (1600 Penn), and Al Madrigal (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
Why you should catch up: About a Boy is a show that effectively uses formula as a way of deepening character relationships. For the first half of the season, it’s a cute, fluffy little comedy that hits the beats that you think it’s going to, yet before you know it, you’re deeply invested in the main character’s personal progress and the lovably awkward friendship he has with the affable, big-hearted boy next door. It’s a comedy of self-acceptance and learning to let go, of finding healing through your relationships with others and forgiving yourself for a past that you might not always welcome, with the 13-episode first season is one that grew stronger and more assured as it went on. With Walton and Stockham sharing an extremely pleasant dynamic, Walton and Driver bypassing any hint of will they/won’t they in favor of an unlikely friendship, and the show itself unafraid to tackle emotionally complex ideas for a broadcast comedy, it’s a show primed to make the leap in season two.
Recommended episodes: “Pilot”; “About a Poker Night”; “About a Boy’s Dad”; “About a Hammer”; “About a Rib Chute”
How you can catch up: iTunes has the entire first season at $2.99 per episode. NBC.com has the last five episodes of the season available for a limited time. Hulu has the last five episodes of the season available. Amazon Instant has the entire first season available at $1.99 per episode, with the entire season at $19.99. The last five episodes of the season are available on demand.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK7JPt2UbSc

Reign (The CW)
Premiere date: Thursday, October 2nd
Premise: A Scottish royal moves to France to fulfill an agreement between the two countries and wed the man she was promised to as a child.
Who’s in it: Adelaide Kane (Teen Wolf), Megan Follows (Anne of Green Gables), Toby Regbo (Mr. Nobody), and Torrance Coombs (Heartland)
Why you should catch up: Reign is the messy, fearless costume drama that had been missing from broadcast television. Delightfully loopy and never meeting a plot twist it couldn’t turn on its head, the series probes issues of power, familial loyalty, and individual wants vs. the needs of many, all through the eyes and experiences of a teenage girl thrust into a position she never really wanted in the first place. Anchored by a searingly compelling performance by Follows as the misunderstood queen, Reign grew much darker with each passing episode while still able to find the light in the most seemingly dour of situations, its confidence growing the more it intertwined the CW-ness of it all with the trappings of its sister period dramas. From blood cults to trips to the Caribbean, from campy one-liners to the fall of one of France’s most powerful beings, Reign is a lot of fun and a refreshing stylistic change from the normally genre-obsessed CW.
How you can catch up: iTunes has the entire first season at $2.99 per episode.
Revenge (ABC)
Premiere date: Sunday, September 28th
Premise: A scorned woman moves to the Hamptons to seek vengeance on those who framed her father.
Who’s in it: Emily VanCamp (Everwood), Madeleine Stowe (The Last of the Mohicans), Gabriel Mann (The Bourne Supremacy), Nick Wechsler (Roswell), and Josh Bowman (Make It or Break It)
Why you should catch up: Revenge very much stumbled during its second season. Rather than continuing to mine the specificity of Emily Thorne’s quest for vengeance, it got too big, too bloated, and too boring, losing sight of the heart of the series in favor of Alias-like conspiracies and the vaguest shadow organization you can imagine. However, a showrunner change and some impressive soul-searching found the ABC drama at the top of its game during its most recent season; not only did Revenge allow Emily to, y’know, get some revenge through takedowns of the week and some serious progress against the Graysons, it allowed her to reexamine why exactly she’s doing this and reignite her determination to see things out for her father. In a season of katanas, mental institutions, and over-the-top deaths, it was a more cerebral way of looking at the very damaged psyche of a woman who lost her entire childhood due to the interests of the very people she’s trying to bring down.

Sleepy Hollow (FOX)
Premiere date: Monday, September 22nd
Premise: A resurrected Ichabod Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow and teams with a female police officer to prevent the apocalypse.
Who’s in it: Tom Mison (Parade’s End), Nicole Beharie (Shame), Orlando Jones (MADtv), and Katia Winter (Dexter)
Why you should catch up: Sleepy Hollow should not have worked. It had a ridiculous concept that was made all the more ridiculous by its high-octane trailer, but the commitment that the show had to its concept and the self-aware humor that quickly became an integral part of the show tied everything together beautifully. In a television landscape committed to creating the least offensive, more broadly appealing content possible, Sleepy Hollow was very much itself and never pretended to be anything else, highlighting the playful chemistry between Beharie and Mison while crafting a show that worked both as supernatural procedural and mythologically threaded serial drama. It was loud, it was visually striking, and it had more chutzpah than nearly every other freshman drama from last season combined – it was event television in every sense of the word and something that has the potential to become even greater going forward.
Recommended episodes: “Pilot”; “The Sin Eater”; “Necromancer”; “The Golem”; “Bad Blood”
How you can catch up: iTunes has the entire first season available at $2.99 per episode, in addition to a wealth of free bonus material. FOX.com has the last eight episodes of the season available for a limited time. Hulu Plus has the entire first season available. The final images of the season, with Mary shutting the gate on Francis and forcing him to stay out in the country while the plague rages on, will play a key role in the season, as Mary and Francis are separated by more than just distance and a wooden gate.

There’s the whole matter of the French king and queen having different countries to serve and different political interests weighing on them. While Francis will have to worry about preserving his father’s legacy and doing right by both Lola and the child they conceived, Mary is allowing the words of her uncle, those pertaining to her taking France herself and becoming more powerful than Francis, to roam free in her mind. It’s understandable, considering that Mary has very rarely, if ever, felt secure while in French court, as she knows that France doesn’t exactly hold the alliance with Scotland in high regard; however, it’s something that could destroy the foundation of her marriage, especially if she allows it to join forces with her jealousy over Lola’s pregnancy and manifest as hostility and anger toward Francis.

Mary cannot hold on to the negative thoughts she has about her position at court, the security of her marriage, and the baby that Francis conceived with another woman and hope to have a happy relationship. Though she might be right regarding how poorly France has treated her and how she and Francis are on two separate pages, she doesn’t have the option of leaving. If she does, her entire country would be weaker for it, so she has to find a way to make things work with her husband and if that means swallowing her pride, then so be it.

The second season of Reign is set to premiere Thursday, October 2nd at 9:00 on The CW.

Will you be watching the second season of Reign? Do you think Francis and Mary’s marriage will be able to survive the Black Plague? Which aspect of season two are you most looking forward to?

He’ll be recurring as devout Catholic Narcisse, a man whose death grip on French Court will be challenged when he goes toe-to-toe with Catherine. Being that Catherine is perhaps the most formidable figure at Court, he has quite the task in outmaneuvering someone with her political experience and expendable resources.

In addition to his time on the Starz drama, Parker has appeared on the likes of Sleepy Hollow, Legend of the Seeker, and NCIS: LA. He becomes the latest member of the Spartacus ensemble to find a home on The CW, as Katrina Law, Manu Bennett, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson have all appeared on Arrow, with Simon Merrells recurring on The Tomorrow People.

The second season of Reign is set to premiere Thursday, October 2nd at 9:00 on The CW. You can check out a full list of The CW’s fall premiere dates here, as well as the CW fall 2014 schedule here.

While that might be admirable on a level, a son not allowing extenuating circumstances to extinguish the love he has for his father, it’s also quite dangerous, as an unstable Henry makes for an unstable France. Also unbeknownst to Francis is the fact that Henry is plotting to take his son out and wed Mary to gain control of England and, by extension, half of Europe. As much as Francis might love his father, it’s time for him to be neutralized before anyone else gets hurt as a result of his declining mental state.

On the season finale of Reign, the royals, including Francis, make the tenuous decision to stage a coup and enlist the military in removing Henry from the throne. However, the problem there is two-fold – if it doesn’t work, they’re at the mercy of a benevolent ruler with a mental illness, a strong sense of paranoia, and a violent streak a mile way. If it does work, they’re possibly letting the military in too much and promoting the instability they’ve been so keen on masking. However, they can’t keep living under Henry’s rule, not when he’s not showing any signs of getting better, so the trio must band together and neutralize the One Great Threat to France, father or not. Husband or not. Ruler or not.

Elsewhere on Reign, Mary learns that Lola is going through a life-threatening birth outside the castle walls, while terror in the woods could unseat the royal coup plans and threaten the lives of all involved.

The season finale of Reign airs Thursday at 9:00 on The CW.

Will the coup against Henry succeed? What will happen if the coup fails and Henry remains both mad and unhospitalized? Do you think that Lola will survive giving birth and if so, is her baby going to end up in royal possession?

However, as much as she might love Francis, the pull of their respective countries has proven to be too much and as a result, there’s been tension between them. It’s hard enough dealing with the hormonal imbalances of teenagedom – it’s darn near impossible to do this while trying to run a country and make a marriage work. But Mary can’t afford to sit idly by while Francis seizes his destiny as Dauphin in battle; she has to do what she has to do to keep Scotland safe, whether he likes it or not.

On tonight’s episode of Reign, Mary hires a mercenary to help her family in Scotland, since Marie is still under siege from the Protestant rebels. During her time in France, she’s realized that she’s capable of going further and doing more in the name of her country and in this instance, she could be risking her relationship with Francis if he learns she did this without his consent. However, Mary has already make peace with that, as she doesn’t want her time in France to be a net-negative for Scotland; if Francis, Henry, and Catherine aren’t going to protect her country, she’s going to have to do it herself.

Elsewhere on Reign, Lola grows more suspicious that Lord Julien will betray her, while Francis embraces his role as Dauphin during a bloody battle between France and England.

Reign airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW.

Will Mary come to regret hiring the mercenary? Would Lord Julien betray Lola and bust up the arrangement that’s proven to be beneficial for them both? Could Francis opt to stay away from the castle even longer since he likes his first taste of military power?

Both the Dauphin and the Queen of Scots wanted so badly to make different choices than their parents, to show that there’s a way for an alliance to be made that doesn’t result in a stilted, loveless arranged marriage, but as much love as there might be in their marriage, it can’t contend with the duties each have to their respective country. While this has already resulted in Mary being locked in the tower to keep her from venturing back to Scotland, could things possibly get worse for the future King and Queen of France?

On tonight’s episode of Reign, Mary’s uncle, the Duke of Guise, arrives in France to inform Mary that Scotland is surrounded on all sides, with Marie’s rule looking to end shortly. Francis argues that Mary shouldn’t trust anything that comes from the Duke of Guise, seeing as how he could have ulterior motives in luring Mary back to Scotland, but this gets at the primary issue between the newlyweds; Mary has responsibilities to others than herself and if her country is in danger, she must attend to it, regardless of what it means for France. She didn’t get involved in this marriage to merely become the Queen of France – her role in the alliance is to make sure France has Scotland’s back and vice versa and right now, Francis is reneging on their deal and putting Mary’s country in danger.

Elsewhere on Reign, Henry hatches a doomed plan to claim the English throne for himself, while Bash and Kenna’s marriage continues to solidify as the trust between them grows.

Reign airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW.

Do you think Mary will be able to trust her uncle, as well as the information he provides her? Will Francis be able to stop Henry from executing his plan before it’s too late? Is Kenna going to emerge as Bash’s most trusted ally in the castle?

Although she went through with the marriage to Francis, she’s noticeably grown apart from her ladies, things with Bash are more than a little awkward, and there’s a certain level of unsteadiness to her relationship with the next King of France. They may love each other from here to the heavens and back again, but they have the weight of their respective country on their shoulders and soon enough, that’s going to exert influence on how they interact with one another. If they can find a way to compartmentalize the pressure they’re facing, they might have a chance, though on tonight’s episode of Reign, they face a test when Mary’s brother James comes to visit.

James visits France to convince his sister to return to Scotland at once, which she agrees to. However, Francis uncovers the real reason James is so insistent on having his sister return to their home country and it’s nothing to do with missing her company; there’s a plot formulated by Marie de Guise that would destroy Mary and Francis must now try to persuade his wife to stay in France and avoid putting herself in a position to be taken advantage of in Scotland. Mary, though, believes Francis is trying to isolate her from her country and stand in the way of her leading, so unless he’s willing and able to provide tangible proof that going back to Scotland would put her in danger, the two will be forced into the first major conflict of their marriage, all due to matters of country rather than matters of heart.

Elsewhere on Reign, Catherine and Kenna take drastic measures to deal with Penelope, whose power is increasing as Henry’s madness intensifies, while Lola becomes wary of Lord Julien’s motives in proposing to her.

Reign airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW.

Will Mary and Francis be able to survive James’ visit? Is Penelope on the way out now that Catherine and Kenna are plotting against her together? Should Lola be wary of Lord Julien’s motives?

While Julien seemed to be a pretty solid match for the young Scot, charming her with skating trips and the knowledge that he doesn’t care about the pregnancy, Lola has so far been looking over any of the more questionable aspects of his character. She cannot afford to be picky right now, not when her fate and the fate of her child are at stake, but it’s hard to completely compartmentalize Julien’s cryptic references to his own past or the fact that two of his wives have died “during child birth.” Even though Lola needs Julien to be legitimate so that she can have something resembling a happy life, should she pull away from him and begin looking for another suitor due to the doubts she has?

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the next three episodes of Reign.

Thursday, April 17th – “No Exit”
When Mary’s brother James (guest star Joe Doyle) arrives in France and convinces Mary to return to Scotland, Francis (Toby Regbo) is suspicious and uncovers a plot that would destroy Mary (Adelaide Kane), which causes a rift between them. King Henry’s (Alan Van Sprang) downward spiral continues, leaving Penelope (guest star Kathryn Prescott) in charge, causing Catherine (Megan Follows) and Kenna (Caitlin Stasey) to take drastic measures. Meanwhile, Lola (Anna Popplewell) becomes wary of Lord Julien’s (guest star Giacomo Gianniotti) motives behind his marriage proposal.

Thursday, April 24th – “Toy Soldiers”
When Mary’s uncle, the Duke of Guise (guest star Gil Darnell), arrives in France with devastating news about her mother, Mary and Francis realize they are torn between putting their own countries first or saving their marriage. With the English throne in jeopardy, King Henry hatches an elaborate plan that will end in disaster. Meanwhile, Bash (Torrance Coombs) and Kenna (Caitlin Stasey) solidify their marriage and begin to trust one another.

Thursday, May 1st – “Higher Ground”
Mary enlists a mercenary to help her, which forces her to realize there are sacrifices and lives she is willing to risk to save her country. Francis embraces his role as Dauphin to lead France in a brutal battle against England, and finds a new ally in Leith (guest star Jonathan Keltz). Meanwhile, as Lola grows closer to Lord Julien (guest star Giacomo Gianniotti), she gets increasingly suspicious that he is going to betray her.

Reign airs Thursdays at 9:00 on The CW.
