On tonight’s episode of Revenge, Emily confronts former friends and lifelong enemies in a search for Victoria, who managed to sneak out of the institution and show up at the doorstep of Grayson Manor after six months. No matter what Victoria Grayson may have been through, she’s still quite dangerous and with the vendetta she has against Emily, she has the motivation to use everything at her disposal in order to expose the Hamptons socialite’s true identity. Victoria might not be able to simply leak information to the press or give a press conference using only her word as bond, but she’s proven over the years to be rather resourceful; there are enough back channels and easily bought officials to do her dirty work for her, so while Emily may have gotten a taste of vengeance, she’s about to learn that revenge isn’t definite. Getting revenge against someone isn’t a cure all to one’s problems, nor does it guarantee that they won’t strike back against you and make things worse than they were before the obsession with payback began.

Elsewhere on Revenge, David confronts Victoria about her role in his framing.

The workers at the facility might not believe her sanity, but surely someone at home will check her out of the hospital after hearing about her horrible experience thus far. Unfortunately for Victoria, Emily is the one who picks up the phone and ends up taunting her with the fact that she bought Grayson manor; Victoria might be angry about Pascal and about the deception that Emily has cast over her family, but those feelings can only grow more bitter the more that she hears Emily poking at her. Victoria Grayson is dangerously smart to begin with and at this point, she doesn’t need the motivation in order to want revenge on Emily, but for some reason, Emily has decided to rev up the greatest threat against her plan.

On the fourth season premiere of Revenge, Victoria finds herself trapped in a mental institution with a destroyed reputation. Anything she says about Emily Thorne being a whole other person and coming to the Hamptons in order to exact revenge for David’s murder will be treated as the ramblings of a mentally touched woman who finally succumbed to the familial pressure weighing on her. Emily seemingly found a way to keep Victoria from coming after her by trapping her in the hospital and ruining any chance of having her identity exposed, with the institutionalization serving as the death blow to the air of untouchability that surrounds the Graysons and Victoria in particular. However, Victoria is still alive, breathing, and mentally sane, so now that she has the information she needs about Emily’s real reason for coming to the Hamptons, she’s going to fight like hell to get out of the hospital and give herself a chance to square off with the real Amanda Clarke. But does Emily has a plan of action just in case Victoria makes it back from her sojourn into the mental health system?

When we last left Revenge, Emily had gotten Victoria committed to a mental institution to keep the secret of her identity under wraps. Had Victoria been able to reach someone with the revelation that Hamptons socialite Emily Thorne isn’t who she claims to be, she could have destroyed Emily and stopped the plan for vengeance dead in its tracks. However, Emily got to her before anything like that could happen and now Victoria’s stint in the mental institution will prevent people from taking claims like this, which were already outlandish, even remotely seriously.

Emily can’t afford to rest on her laurels, though, not when Victoria will eventually get out of the institution and not when she still has quite a bit to do in order to exact revenge on the Graysons. She can’t let her guard down because once Victoria gets out of the hospital, she’s going to do everything in her power and exhaust her considerable resources looking to get Emily back for the hell that she’s been put through.

Set to appear on Revenge this season are Yeardley Smith (The Simpsons) as a fellow patient at the institution Victoria’s stuck in; Nestor Serrano (90210) as Edward, a commanding and perceptive police chief who finds himself in Victoria’s corner; Brian Hallisay (The Client List) as easygoing local cop Ben; and Elena Satine (Magic City) as Louise, the slightly unhinged black sheep of a prominent Southern family. Additionally, James Tupper and Karinne Vanasse have been promoted to series regulars after recurring for three seasons and one season, respectively.

It’s a comedy of self-acceptance and learning to let go, of finding healing through your relationships with others and forgiving yourself for a past that you might not always welcome, with the 13-episode first season is one that grew stronger and more assured as it went on. With Walton and Stockham sharing an extremely pleasant dynamic, Walton and Driver bypassing any hint of will they/won’t they in favor of an unlikely friendship, and the show itself unafraid to tackle emotionally complex ideas for a broadcast comedy, it’s a show primed to make the leap in season two.

Why you should catch up: Reign is the messy, fearless costume drama that had been missing from broadcast television. Delightfully loopy and never meeting a plot twist it couldn’t turn on its head, the series probes issues of power, familial loyalty, and individual wants vs. the needs of many, all through the eyes and experiences of a teenage girl thrust into a position she never really wanted in the first place. Anchored by a searingly compelling performance by Follows as the misunderstood queen, Reign grew much darker with each passing episode while still able to find the light in the most seemingly dour of situations, its confidence growing the more it intertwined the CW-ness of it all with the trappings of its sister period dramas. From blood cults to trips to the Caribbean, from campy one-liners to the fall of one of France’s most powerful beings, Reign is a lot of fun and a refreshing stylistic change from the normally genre-obsessed CW.

Premise: A scorned woman moves to the Hamptons to seek vengeance on those who framed her father.
Who’s in it: Emily VanCamp (Everwood), Madeleine Stowe (The Last of the Mohicans), Gabriel Mann (The Bourne Supremacy), Nick Wechsler (Roswell), and Josh Bowman (Make It or Break It)
Why you should catch up: Revenge very much stumbled during its second season. Rather than continuing to mine the specificity of Emily Thorne’s quest for vengeance, it got too big, too bloated, and too boring, losing sight of the heart of the series in favor of Alias-like conspiracies and the vaguest shadow organization you can imagine. However, a showrunner change and some impressive soul-searching found the ABC drama at the top of its game during its most recent season; not only did Revenge allow Emily to, y’know, get some revenge through takedowns of the week and some serious progress against the Graysons, it allowed her to reexamine why exactly she’s doing this and reignite her determination to see things out for her father. In a season of katanas, mental institutions, and over-the-top deaths, it was a more cerebral way of looking at the very damaged psyche of a woman who lost her entire childhood due to the interests of the very people she’s trying to bring down.

Sleepy Hollow (FOX)

Premise: A resurrected Ichabod Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow and teams with a female police officer to prevent the apocalypse.
Who’s in it: Tom Mison (Parade’s End), Nicole Beharie (Shame), Orlando Jones (MADtv), and Katia Winter (Dexter)
Why you should catch up: Sleepy Hollow should not have worked. It had a ridiculous concept that was made all the more ridiculous by its high-octane trailer, but the commitment that the show had to its concept and the self-aware humor that quickly became an integral part of the show tied everything together beautifully. In a television landscape committed to creating the least offensive, more broadly appealing content possible, Sleepy Hollow was very much itself and never pretended to be anything else, highlighting the playful chemistry between Beharie and Mison while crafting a show that worked both as supernatural procedural and mythologically threaded serial drama. It was loud, it was visually striking, and it had more chutzpah than nearly every other freshman drama from last season combined – it was event television in every sense of the word and something that has the potential to become even greater going forward.

Either way, this relationship is decidedly a win for Victoria, one that comes at a time when she needs the boost. Once she gets out of the institution, she can go about exposing the truth behind Emily’s identity and getting the life back that was taken away from her; had she gone blindly into it, she might have been written off as insane, given her recent stint, but with Alvarez backing her up, she could have a chance at getting people to listen.

Now Victoria has the ammunition necessary to bring Emily down once and for all, yet her stint in the institution and the outlandishness of her claims likely won’t bring many people over to her side, at least in the beginning. But Victoria Grayson is nothing if not a planner and during her time in the hospital, she’ll be coming up with a way to prove that Emily isn’t who she says she is and that she was right all along not to trust her. However, will Victoria be prepared for the ways in which Emily will try to undermine her credibility and destroy her reputation once she finally does get out of the hospital?

In addition to her voiceover work as Lisa Simpson on the FOX animated classic, Smith has appeared on the likes of Mad Men, The Big Bang Theory, and Dead Like Me. Whether Ben is successful in wooing the elusive Emily Thorne will all depend on when he sets about pursuing her and how he approaches her. The revelation of Clarke”s existence is something that has yet to be sprung on the Hamptons elite, as his only present-day appearance was an attack that left Conrad unconscious and bleeding by the side of the road. While Victoria”s reaction to the news of David being alive will be interesting to see, and likely just a little heartbreaking, Emily will have to deal with a violent onslaught of emotions when she learns that her father didn”t die like she thought. On one hand, she”s relieved to have him still in her life, the tether that could keep her tied to her life as Amanda Clarke; on best online casino the other, his death was the thing that pushed her to dedicate years of her life to bringing down the Graysons. He”s the reason that she”s the monster she is today and though she might love her father, looking him in the eye might be too much to handle when she knows that he”s what ruined her life.

In addition to his time on the defunct NBC medical drama, Tupper has appeared on the likes of Grey”s Anatomy, Resurrection, and Men in Trees. He isn”t the only Revenge player to receive a bump in status, as Karinne Vanasse was named a series regular after recurring this past season.
