However, Lucy soon finds herself swept away by Ian (Shane Harper), the son of the man who recently bought the theme park. She never thought that someone could make her feel this good about herself and make her want to believe in all the mushy ideals that she’s been pushing away for as long as she could remember. As much as she might like Ian, though, and as much as those in Lucy’s life might welcome her change in disposition, things take a turn for the worse when she learns that there’s a chance Ian might be her half-brother.

In addition to Santos and Harper, Happyland stars Ryan Rottman (The Lying Game), Brady Smith (Young Adult), Katherine McNamara (New Year’s Eve), Zulay Henao (Love Thy Neighbor), and Cameron Moulene (Raising Hope).

While Faking It isn’t the first series to address intersex, the list including Freaks and Geeks and Nip/Tuck, as well as individual episodes of Friends and House, this is the first time a half-hour comedy has seriously addressed the physical condition and treated it as something other than a cheap laugh. It’ll be interesting to see how Faking It can integrate something as complex as intersex within its scant 22-minute framework, but even if it doesn’t fully work, the show has established that it’s unafraid of sensitive subjects and that it’s willing to go places that other series either don’t or won’t let themselves get near, which can only be a positive thing for Faking It going forward.

Created by Carter Covington (Hart of Dixie), Faking It stars Rita Volk (The Hungover Games) and Katie Stevens (American Idol) as Amy and Karma, two teenagers who come up with the idea of faking a lesbian relationship in order to gain popularity. However, while Karma relishes being in the spotlight, Amy deals with growing feelings for her best friend. The series also stars Gregg Sulkin (Pretty Little Liars) and Michael Willett (United States of Tara).

On the season finale of Finding Carter, Lori returns to Carter’s life after laying back in the shadows, hell-bent on taking her daughter and putting any memories of Virginia and Elizabeth Wilson behind them for good. But the decision to leave, just like the one that she faced on her birthday, isn’t exactly easy for Carter; she has a life with the Wilsons, having formed relationships with each member of the family, and she doesn’t want to abandon people that she loves, not even if Lori is the one asking her to leave. If that wasn’t enough motivation to keep her in Virginia, there’s the whole matter of Carter not wanting to leave Max as he recovers from the shooting that she played a role in, so as much as she loves her mother, she isn’t going to leave a leave and an identity behind for her. Yet, seeing as how unstable Lori has become since Carter left, will Carter even have a choice in the matter?

Elsewhere on Finding Carter, Max and Taylor’s relationship hits a breaking point, while Carter uncovers dark secrets that she might not be ready to handle.

The season finale of Finding Carter airs Tuesday at 10:00 on MTV. The series has already been renewed for a 12-episode second season that will premiere sometime in 2015.

On tonight’s episode of Finding Carter, Carter goes on the lam with Crash in hopes of starting over and living the type of life that she wasn’t getting to under David and Elizabeth’s roof. However, her time on the road isn’t exactly the romantic getaway that Carter expected; instead, it opens her eyes to what a life with Crash and without any type of stable home environment would be like and frankly, it’s not something that she wants to experience. Carter thought that Crash would provide the excitement and support that she felt she wasn’t getting from her birth family, but when his back is up against the wall, he reverts back to the behaviors that nearly landed him in prison, behaviors that nearly took him away from her for three years. And as much as Carter might like him, she’s outgrown the fascination with danger, to the point that seeing Crash like this might force her back into the Wilson’s home and into the life that she tried to abandon.

Created by Emily Silver (Bones), Finding Carter tells the story of Carter Stevens (Kathryn Prescott), a seemingly normal 16-year-old girl with what she thought was the perfect life. She had friends, a tight relationship with her mother, and more freedom than most had when they were her age. However, everything she thought she knew gets turned on its head when she learns that the woman she knows as her mother actually kidnapped her when she was a toddler. When she’s placed back with her biological family, though, Carter has a tough time in accepting them as her family and rebels against her strict mother.

In addition to Prescott, Finding Carter stars Cynthia Watros (Lost), Alexis Denisof (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Anna Jacoby-Heron (Contagion), Zac Pullam (Listen), and Alex Saxon (The Fosters). The show’s critical and commercial success continues the swoon that MTV is experiencing following initial growing pains in its plan to expand into scripted programming. It’s the second new scripted show that MTV has renewed this year, following in the footsteps of comedy Faking It, and joins Teen Wolf and Awkward. on the network’s growing scripted slate, which will grow even more this fall when comedy Happyland premieres.

On the next episode of Finding Carter, Gabe, still smitten from his time in the closet with Taylor, asks her out on a date and she ends up saying yes, despite the fact that she went home with Max. The two aren’t official and didn’t have sex that night, but he’s understandably deflated when she tells him that she’s going out with the popular jock. Yet Max won’t say anything to her about it, since he’s not the best at expressing his feelings and he doesn’t want to be the one to stand in the way of her happiness, not when the two don’t have any status on which to lean. There might be feelings there, feelings that were manifested on the night of the party, but until one of the two actually verbalizes what’s between them, they’re going to be at this weird stalemate where they’re wondering why the other isn’t making a move. Will Max wait too long to say anything to Taylor and lose her to Gabe for good?

On tonight’s episode of Finding Carter, Taylor joins Carter and her friends at a party and ends up in the closet with Ofe as the group was playing Seven Minutes in Heaven. Taylor is so desperate to shed some of her innocence and impress Carter with her more daring side that she’s willing to make out with a stranger, not because she’s attracted to him but because of what kissing him would mean. It would mean that she was just as cool as Carter, that she wasn’t some stick in the mud that would derail any fun that the group would have. It would mean that she was someone willing to take chances, to go outside of herself and experiment until she figured out what works for her. It would mean that she wasn’t as much like Elizabeth as Carter believes she is, something that could pave the way for the two to have the sisterly bond that has been lacking since Carter came home.

Thus far in its fourth season, Teen Wolf has been averaging around 1.7 million viewers, keeping it as the cornerstone of the MTV scripted programming boom that it began. Though the network took a while to gain its footing after the surprise success of Teen Wolf and Awkward, resulting in a string of one-season wonders and doubts about whether scripted content could be viable on MTV, there’s been some forward movement with the success of faux lesbian comedy Faking It and kidnapping drama Finding Carter. Next in line for MTV are comedy Happyland, which takes place at an amusement park, stars Bianca Santos (The Fosters), and premieres this fall; and Shannara, a straight-to-series adaptation of the fantasy novel series by Terry Brooks.

Adapted for television by Jon Favreau, Al Gough, and Miles Millar, Shannara centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. The first season of the series is said to be based on The Elfstone of Shannara, the second title in the 25-book series and one that has sold some 26 million copies in the United States. Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) is slated to direct the first two episodes before joining the series as an executive producer.

Shannara will be the second genre drama on MTV’s schedule following the success of Teen Wolf, with the network’s other scripted content ranging from high school comedy Awkward. to abduction drama Finding Carter. Among the projects picked up to series that have yet to air are comedy Happyland, to premiere this September, and Victoria Justice vehicle Eye Candy, which is undergoing serious retooling following its pilot. MTV also has a Scream pilot still in development, the only project currently on their development slate.
