“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

The #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for the last two years and most highly-rated show in cable television history, The Walking Dead has also spawned a companion series based on a new story and new characters by Robert Kirkman, creator of the Walking Dead comic series. Seasons five and six will both be ran by Scott Gimple, who took over for outgoing showrunner Glen Mazzara at the beginning of season four, while season five will feature the debut of Seth Gilliam (Teen Wolf) as Gabriel Stokes. Michael Cudlitz (Southland), Alanna Masterson (The Young and the Restless), Josh McDermitt (Retired at 35), Christian Serratos (Twilight), and Andrew J. West (Walter) have all been promoted to series regulars for the fifth season after recurring during season four.

The fifth season of The Walking Dead is set to premiere Sunday, October 12th at 9:00 on AMC, with after-show Talking Dead following at 10:00. You can check out a new trailer for The Walking Dead below.

Will you be watching The Walking Dead this season? Who do you think will make it to season six? Just how much would you like the show to follow the comics over the next two seasons?

The second half of The Walking Dead‘s 16-episode fifth season should then premiere in February 2015.

“From the opening tease in the premiere onward, season 5 is without question the most ambitious and satisfying season this amazing team has ever crafted,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “In the zombie apocalypse, event television is alive and well, and I am proud to acknowledge that this uniquely talented writing staff, production team and cast have once again raised the bar (and the crossbow).”

In addition to releasing the extended trailer for the fifth season of The Walking Dead, a season that finds Rick reunited with most of his group and looking to take over Terminus, AMC announced that Seth Gilliam (Teen Wolf) would be joining the cast of the zombie drama in an as-yet-unspecified role. Meanwhile, recurring players Andrew J. West (mysterious Terminus leader Gareth), Alanna Masterson (Lily’s sister Tara), and Christian Serratos (Rosita, a member of Abraham’s group) have all been promoted to series regulars beginning with the fifth season premiere.

Will you be watching the fifth season of The Walking Dead? How much would you like The Walking Dead to deviate from the source material this season? Which of the promoted characters are you most excited to have around?

The fourth season premiere set a new record for the series, delivering 20.2 million viewers, live+3, and 13.2 million adults 18-49.

“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: The Walking Dead is renewed for a fifth season,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently – and most notably – with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more Dead.”

In addition to its status as the most watched scripted series on television, The Walking Dead has spawned a companion series, as AMC will base the show, which is currently in development, on a new story and new characters from Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman. There’s been no word as to how the companion/spinoff will incorporate into the world of the Dead or which, if any, Dead characters will be shifted from one series to the other.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9:00 on AMC. You can check out a promo for the next episode of the show below.

What have you thought about the fourth season of The Walking Dead thus far? Are you glad that the current showrunner will be returning next season? How would you connect the show with the companion series that is being developed by AMC?

Said Charlie Collier in the official press release, building on the success of the drama – “the most popular show on television for adults 18-49” was a “no-brainer.” After all, The Walking Dead season three out-performed The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Voice, and Game of Thrones.

It appears that the new world being created isn’t necessarily tied to the comic book that The Walking Dead, is based on, though it would come from creator Robert Kirkman and the show’s executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and Dave alpert.

The announcement follows that of Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, and two other new drama series for 2014; Halt & Catch Fire and Turn.

Season four of The Walking Dead will return to AMC on October 13. The spin-off will launch in 2015 – check back for updates.

Season four will have the same structure as season three, with eight episodes airing in the fall and another eight premiering in February. While season two utilized a split-schedule, it only had 13 to distribute; season one was only six episodes in length.

The show will once again premiere during AMCFearfest, which consists of 19 consecutive days of themed programming and runs through October 31st, while the network will run a week-long marathon from October 7th through October 13th. The season premiere will be complemented by material on amctv.com, including The Walking Dead Story Sync, bonus scenes, production diaries/photo galleries, and trivia games.

Season four of The Walking Dead finds Rick and the remaining survivors fostering what has turned into a thriving community within the walls of the prison. However, the true threat turns out to be not the walkers, starvation, or passers-by, but themselves, as life quickly turns from livable and something approaching content to the hellish cycle of despair and paranoia that has dominated the time post-outbreak. The first trailer for the fourth season was released in conjuncture with the premiere date announcement and in it, we see botched raids, hoards of walkers gathering by the fences rather than spreading, and an attack on the cell block that could lead to all the progress the community made being undone.

In addition to announcing the return of The Walking Dead, Comic-Con saw news of the return of The Talking Dead, an after show hosted by Chris Hardwick that provides Walking Dead-related interviews, recaps, and sneak peeks. It will air at 10:00 following each new episode of the season.

Will you be watching The Walking Dead this season? What do you think about the trailer for season four? How much of the comic material would you like to see over the next 16 episodes?

We still have a little better than a month before The Walking Dead returns, so naturally that means it is time for AMC to start twisting the knife. What better way to kick things off than these two promo pics from the mid-season premiere. In the first we are basically just getting a reminder of what the cliff hanger was. Daryl and Merle facing down the very agitated populace of Woodbury. Will the be executed right there? Or excommunicated? Does The Governor actually believe Merle was in on the attack, or is he just playing out his plan to install Merle as a mole at The Prison. So many questions.

Number two also speaks for itself. Rick and the Woodbury crew have arrived a little lite, and Daryl’s absence has obviously upset Carol; the big question is, what is Rick telling Carol in this shot. Does Rick intend to leave Daryl behind? What’s the plan? Tune in February 10th for “The Suicide King” to find out.

Born Andrew James Clutterbuck, some might say Andrew Lincoln was destined to be known by yet another name: Rick Grimes. Although British, the son of a South African mother and English father, Lincoln mastered the southern twang of The Walking Dead’s primary hero, officer Rick Grimes, and fashioned a stunningly multidimensional persona around the iconic character who is the leader of a pack of shell shocked survivors trying to get by in the wake of a zombie apocalypse.

In what has to be one of the wildest coincidences ever, Lincoln debuted his acting chops in an episode of Channel 4’s Sitcom “Drop the Dead Donkey” titled “Births and Deaths” — both titles seeming to portent his future success on The Walking Dead. His first major role was Edgar “Egg” Cook on the acclaimed BBC drama This Life. He was also well regarded for his portrayal of psychologist Robert Bridge in Afterlife.

Was I the only one who thought the new survivors were crawling into the back of Woodbury on just the same day Rick and the team decided to take back Glenn and Maggie? I did wonder why there was no security at the area, and it looked abandoned except for the barbed wire. Maybe it was the back of the prison. It took a while to find out, that’s for sure.

Whoever the newbies are at the prison, they’ve earned my respect merely by calling Carl a man. In the situation they’re in, even an adult can tell when a child has taken on the responsibilities of an adult and is willing to recognize their territory and what they’ve accomplished. The Walking Dead shows the very best and the very worst of what we can expect of mankind. It was nice to see see some good in an unusually desolate reality. If there is any kid we’ve met so far who has acquired the regard of others, it’s Carl.

It was equally as easy for the our heroes to find their way into Woodbury, and Michonne into The Governor’s apartment. He doesn’t even have body guards? They really do have their heads up their arses with regard to the outside world thanks to ole Merle. It took virtually nothing for a Glenn and Maggie rescue. Kind of embarrassing given the way The Governor struts around town like he’s a savior. At least Andrea is finally asking questions…why would she be used to knock on doors when her skills would be better utilized taking on the attackers?

I honestly couldn’t believe the only person she saw in the melee was the one person she didn’t know. Really? She even missed Maggie screaming “RICK ” at the top of her lungs.

Michonne’s discovery in The Governor’s apartment was lovely. The disgust on her face at his pet fish didn’t even come close to what I expected, but his daughter’s tip toeing out of the cage was priceless. I don’t know what he has done, but the relationship he has maintained with her via the bag over her head is obviously the genesis of Milton’s experimentation on walkers. The irony of The Governor saying there was no need for his little girl suffering considering what he does to walkers and the living every day wasn’t lost on Michonne, and she was able to end at least the suffering of his daughter.

I was happy to see Andrea hadn’t slipped so far to the dark side that she would kill Michonne, but I did expect a reaction of decent proportions to her lover snuggling with his zombie daughter on the ground, surrounded by pickled (moving) heads with a giant shard of glass jutting out of his eye. Really, does that make me crazy? Strangely, she was barely affected by what she saw. Instead, she was concerned about The Governor. I wondered if she would feel the same way if she knew exactly who it was who had breached their little wonderland.

The look on Andrea’s face betrayed little more than shock when The Governor stood in front of his angry crowd of minions, declaring Merle to be a traitor and presenting to them one of attackers – none other than Merle’s brother, Daryl. “You wanted your brother, you got him.” Yes, the Governor is a sweet, sexy man. Exactly the type I want running my quaint little town. One who tells me he’s afraid and then throws two brothers who had been torn apart together in front of an angry mob screaming for their deaths. What a sick bastard.

And that, my friends, is that. We have had our mid-season finale. Nice cliffhanger. I won’t lie; I want Merle to give up his life to save Daryl. Do I think he will? No. But it would be a nice gesture of redemption for someone from whom you’d expect none.

The new folks at the prison were treating each other kindly before they arrived, and did right by Carl. Our hero’s numbers were dwindling by ridiculous proportions, so I’d be amazed if there isn’t a joining of the two groups to strengthen their numbers and start building a little Woodbury of their own. Of course, I’ve not read the comics, and there could be many of you tittering with laughter right now at my inane thoughts. I watch TV people, not read comics.

Until February when it returns, keep an eye right here on TVHackR for any news and updates about The Walking Dead.

I even groaned. Not again. Can you imagine a world where everywhere you went the people you met wanted to hold you hostage? What a pain in the ass!

Thankfully, our rag tag group of survivors are more refined than the good citizens of Woodbury and once Michonne was cleaned up and coherent, they listened, understood and made a tactical plan of attack to get into Woodbury to save Glenn and Maggie. I’m enjoying seeing the differences between outward and inward appearances through Michonne’s eyes. The prison looks like a formidable place, but in the short time she was there she received medical care, kindness, and watched the tender reuniting of Carol with her friends.

Carol’s quiet understanding of the loss of Lori finally brought out the emotion we’ve been waiting for Rick to show in front of his son, and toward Carl. Together they chose a name. In Carl’s adult world, one where he needed to put a bullet in his mother’s brain to keep her from becoming the walking dead, he chose the name of his third grade teacher. From a time of peace and happiness came her name, Judith. After everyone set out on the rescue mission, Rick thanked Daryl for everything he did for Ass Kicker. Their exchange was another emotional and heartfelt moment in an episode full of little ones. Watching Michonne listen in on that conversation was more proof that she had made the right decision in going to the prison.

Did anyone else think it was completely frakkin odd that older, slightly mental fella was living in the cabin in the woods? It was completely implausible. If he had managed to live on his own out there to that point, and somehow found food, escaped walkers, and didn’t feel the need to bury his dog, surely The Governor would have found and either recruited or killed him. Most likely the latter. It doesn’t seem people off their rocker would do much for The Governor. That whole scene was a little strange, no?

Questioning The Governor’s sanity is now an issue. He really put his faith in Merle? He’s pissed that the prison group managed to stay alive and take down the entire prison of walkers was something MERLE said couldn’t be done? In what world would trusting Merle make any sense? I guess from a guy who keeps heads in fish tanks and his walking dead daughter locked away so he can brush her hair on occasion. Things become increasingly creepy with him with each passing episode. He must not have known many people to think Merle is the best choice for these

In an hour full of strange happenings, we were to believe that Milton has been experimenting on walkers all this time and never saw the transition from living to dead? That explains why he was experimenting in the first place, I suppose. Andrea didn’t have to twirl the top of any cups or play any special music to get her findings. Sadly, one second they’re with a soul and the next they are not. End of. As Andrea was assisting Milton, The Governor was busy with his own business.

The Governor’s partial insanity was in the forefront again when he let Merle interrogate Glenn about the prison and his brother. When you have no heart, it’s easy to dismiss the power one can give you. Glenn has heart and we found out just how much as he crash banged his way out of a chair he was duct taped into and killed a walker. Have you ever used duct tape? That stuff is amazing. I was thinking to myself how screwed Glenn was, and it turned out he used that tape to his advantage by using the wooden arms of the chair as little killing machines. He made better use out of his missing appendages in five minutes than Merle had in nine months.

I was sickened at how The Governor tortured Maggie. The most disgusting part was when it was all over and he was caressing Andrea in the same way he had falsely attempted to calm Maggie after her lead her to believe her rape was imminent. Everything about those scenes were disgusting. Maggie’s limit wasn’t her own pain, but that of her Glenn. She gave up the information, but if there’s any justice in this whacked out world of The Walking Dead, Rick, Michonne, Daryl and friends will take Woodbury by storm before they know what’s coming. Please.

Did you listen to me? I sure hope so. I took a while to suss it out, but Rick was suffering a little break and talking to dead people. It was just the jarring he needed to get his head out of his ass and get back to his people, most notably his son and daughter. Andrew Lincoln did some fantastic work on that phone. As an actor, I’d imagine those are some of the most difficult scenes to do as all of the emotion is pulled from your own space and not those working around you.

I wish we had been spared the scenes between Andrea and The Governor. I felt more comfortable watching innards pouring all over Michonne than I did seeing Andrea’s naked butt in bed with The Governor. It’s pretty bad when The Walking Dead are more appealing than the living, but that dude freaks me out.

How did I miss the connection between the Woodbury hunts for people like Michonne and previously the killing of the Army team with the brutality of the staged event with the Walkers? Nothing about them is staged when they send their own people straight outside to do the same thing to living people. It means they really don’t see the difference between humans and walkers any more. Anything that isn’t with them, is against them.

Glenn and Maggie got caught by Merle. I’m sure they’re in for a very, very rude introduction to the seedier side of Woodbury. It was interesting that The Governor wanted to know straight away whether or not Andrea knew them. What difference does it make to him? He can’t possibly want to engage them as friends for her, nor can he think she’ll be happy to see them being tortured for information.

After Michonne was done slaughtering all of Merle’s buddies, she happened to see him capture Glenn and Maggie as well as them dropping the basket of baby formula. That woman has a great head on her shoulders. It was a pretty awesome moment when she showed up, formula in hand, standing among the walkers at the fence of the prison. Rick couldn’t believe his eyes, but I don’t think he was about to question his good fortune. You could see in his eyes that he knew she was something different from everyone else they’ve come across so far.

The awwww moment of the night was when Daryl recognized Carol’s knife in one of the walker’s heads while clearing out the prison. He was beside himself trying to figure out how it could have gotten there and where she could be. He finally found her and I realized they’ve become my favorite romantic hope of The Walking Dead. From the abusive bastard she was with, she found a diamond in the rough.

The season continues to wow me. What about you, are you wowed too?
