Orphan Black Renewed for Season 3 by BBC America

BBC America has announced that sci-fi drama Orphan Black has been renewed for a third season, which will premiere in 2015. The series became the first ever ad-supported drama series to double its ratings from season one to season two in A25-54 and 18-49 in Live+7, with the season two finale earning series highs in total viewers.

Created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett, Orphan Black tells the story of a clone conspiracy that impacts the lives of Sarah (Tatiana Maslany), an English ex-pat living as a grifter; Alison (Tatiana Maslany), a soccer mom with two adopted children; Helena (Tatiana Maslany), a Ukrainian trained assassin; and Cosima (Tatiana Maslany), a grad student from the United States. In addition to Maslany, the social media juggernaut stars Jordan Gavaris (Unnatural History), Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors), Dylan Bruce (Arrow), Evelyne Brochu (Café de Flore), and Ari Millen (Exit Humanity).

Orphan Black was the second original drama series produced and aired by BBC America and has helped pave the way for the network’s increased focus on original scripted content. Apart from already airing the likes of Almost Royal and Intruders, the network has commissioned two new dramas – the first, historical drama The Last Kingdom; the second, Tatau, an adventure series about two twenty-something Londoners traveling to the Cook Islands and getting wrapped up in a conspiracy all their own.

Orphan Black Season 2 Finale Preview: Sarah Surrenders to Dyad

Sarah had always been on the defensive when it came to keeping Kira from falling into the clutches of Dyad. Rather than trying to break down the corporation from the inside out, she opted to hide her daughter away with her father and focus on curing Cosima, only to find out that Kira’s bone marrow provided the best chance for her sister to fully recover. Reluctantly, Sarah brought Kira back into the Clone Club fold not long after she found safety for her loved one; now, though, Sarah has to figure out a way to locate Rachel, as the so-called Pro Clone has nabbed Kira and taken her to an undisclosed location.

On the season finale of Orphan Black, Sarah and the rest of the Clone Club will be hot on Rachel’s trail looking for Kira. However, Rachel has access to resources and contacts that will prevent anyone from reaching her or Kira, meaning that the only way for Sarah to have a chance at seeing her daughter again is to surrender herself to Dyad. Whether that means playing possum and allowing the rest of the Clone Club to hit Rachel from another angle remains to be seen, but the previously rebellious Sarah, who fought so hard to keep herself and Kira from falling into the Dyad rabbit hole, will have to put her pride and unease aside in order to give herself the best opportunity to grab Kira. But will her efforts be enough to ensure the safety of her daughter?

Orphan Black 2.09 Preview: Cosima Takes a Turn for the Worse

Sarah’s hand was forced when it was discovered that Dr. Leekie was dead. Beforehand, she was holding firm on her stance that she wouldn’t turn Kira or Professor Duncan over to Dyad, which said a lot about how deep her rebellious streak ran and the confidence she had in Cosima to crack the clones’ DNA sequence. However, once she learned just how bad a condition Cosima was in, Sarah knew that she had to relent, if not for Cosima than for the knowledge that Duncan could impart about the origins of the clones. But what will she do when she’s made privy to the seizure that Cosima suffered?

On tonight’s episode of Orphan Black, Cosima takes a turn for the worse after the incident in the lab and it seems that Professor Duncan, no matter his intelligence or proximity to the creation of the clones, might not be enough to save her. Sarah, ever the protector of her sisters, is then forced to take desperate measures that will have tragic consequences for those she loves and make her question her role in the Clone Club. Ever since she became aware of her status as a clone, Sarah has been the leader of Clone Club, the one whose confidence Cosima and Alison fed off of and whose bravery kept them in the fight long after the other two would’ve surrendered. If she’s bringing destruction to the only people she loves, though, will Sarah opt to cut her ties with Cosima and Alison and head off on her own once again?

Elsewhere on Orphan Black, the Proletheans set their ultimate plan into motion, while Alison and Donnie tangle with the law and attempt to cover up Dr. Leekie’s murder.

Orphan Black 2.08 Preview: Will Sarah Strike a Deal with Dyad?

A lone wolf by nature, it took a lot for Sarah Manning to let the other members of the Clone Club into her life. They may have worked together to figure out their origins and who was behind their creation, but slowly, Cosima and Allison ingratiated themselves into Sarah’s life and became true members of her family – the only people besides Felix that she could depend on. As such, Sarah’s decision on whether to deliver Kira to Dyad in hopes of helping Cosima is all the more complicated.

On tonight’s episode of Orphan Black, Sarah weighs her options on whether to strike a deal with Dyad. If she does turn her daughter over, she’s leaving Kira vulnerable to additional testing and DNA samples being taken; if she doesn’t turn her daughter over, Cosima might not have a chance to beat her illness, thereby leaving her with just Allison as an ally. It’s a decision that will test the strength of her connection with Cosima and a decision that will have reverberations for a time to come, as Sarah has been the lone clone unwilling to acquiesce to Dyad. Should she turn Kira over to their possession, they have leverage against her to make her cooperate with any and all of their demands, but Sarah has been able to outthink and outmaneuver Dyad thus far. Just how confident is she in her own ability to step one step ahead of the institute? Enough to where she thinks they can run tests on Kira and still be at a disadvantage?

Elsewhere on Orphan Black, a new player in the clone conspiracy turns up on Felix’s doorstep, sending him into a panic, while Cosima, Delphine, and Rachel trudge on without Dr. Leekie.

Orphan Black Season 2 Spoilers: Sarah Struggles with Whether to Surrender

Sarah has always been the clone with the most resistance to the idea of surrendering to Dyad. While Cosima took a position with the institute, mostly to figure out her own illness and better understand the genetic makeup of the clones, Allison very quickly signed the contracts offered by Rachel; Sarah, though, has held on to the idea that the clones, despite the bar code embedded into their DNA, are their own autonomous beings and that Dyad has no right to them. However, with Allison gone and Cosima ill, it’s hard for Sarah to be properly rebellious, not when she knows that Dyad could conceivably help the latter sustain herself and give the former the sense of normalcy that she’s been craving. But if Sarah surrenders to the shadowy institute, what price will she end up paying in the end?

Saturday, May 31st – “Knowledge of Causes and Secret Motion of Things”
A rehab confidante betrays Alison and threatens to expose the truth about Aynsley’s death, which causes Alison to go into a free fall on the eve of Family Day. The clones gather to contain the fallout.

Saturday, June 7th – “Variable and Full of Perturbation”
A new player in the clone conspiracy emerges and turns up at Felix’s door, which sends him into crisis mode. Meanwhile, Sarah struggles with whether to surrender a crucial piece of leverage and strike a deal with Dyad.

Saturday, June 14th – “Things Which Have Never Yet Been Done”
Sarah is forced to concede when Rachel launches her latest ploy, but the Clone Club springs into action to save her. Later, Sarah meets a new ally and uncovers a terrifying new dimension to the conspiracy.

Orphan Black 2.07 Preview: Allison Falls Apart After Being Betrayed

While Sarah has been off chasing information about the origins of the clones and Cosima has been focusing on figuring out how to combat her illness, Allison has been alone with her guilt over Aynsley’s death and her unease over Donnie being her monitor. The lack of support has certainly been weighing on Allison, to the point where she’s even more guarded than she was and her feelings of hopelessness and loneliness have increased. Though being trapped in rehab could have ultimately broken her, she did find something of a shoulder to lean on in Vic, perhaps the least likely ally she could have imagined. Or at least she thought she did.

On the next episode of Orphan Black, Allison finds herself betrayed by Vic, whose loyalties lie only with himself as he’s using her to get the charges against him dropped. Having pushed away her friends, not being able to trust Donnie, and without the support of Sarah and Cosima, Allison understandably falls apart, feeling as if she’s at a dead end. And the worst thing about her breakdown, aside from the physical and emotional effects it’ll have on her going forward, is that it occurs on the eve of Family Day, thereby endangering the amount of time she gets to see her children. Though they were always important to Allison, the two are now the only thing she’s got going for her, in her mind, and taking that away could cause an even more serious emotional collapse that she might not be able to recover from. Can Sarah and Cosima adequately contain the fallout from Allison’s collapse and keep their sister from losing all hope in ever leading a normal life again?

Elsewhere on Orphan Black, Siobhan confronts Dr. Leekie, while Ethan faces Rachel for the first time in years and Cosima gets into it with Delphine regarding their researching into the former’s illness.

Orphan Black 2.06 Preview: Sarah and Helena Go On a Road Trip

Sarah has been given time by Dr. Leekie in which to find Professor Ethan Duncan and look into the origins of the clone experiment, including what exactly went on with Project LEDA. While it looked like an unusually passive gesture by the ever-calculating scientist, letting someone like Sarah wander over yonder without concern for any possible escape or the information she could uncover, Leekie made sure to cover his bases by having Paul trail her. Sarah might get closer to the truth about her beginnings than ever before, but even if she does manage to find the Duncan-shaped needle in the haystack she’s currently residing in, she’ll have to deal with quite a few obstacles before she can make it back alive.

On the next episode of Orphan Black, Sarah and Helena hit the road in Siobhan’s truck and head out searching for answers about the origins of the experiment and the location of Swan Man. Of course, it’s not as easy a journey as either would’ve liked, as they run up on mysterious strangers and have a series of altercations that eat up valuable time and energy that could be used in a more productive way. And there’s still the matter of Paul lingering in the shadows, under the thumb of the Dyad Institute and having to decide just how far he’s willing to go when it comes to obeying Rachel.

Elsewhere on Orphan Black, Cosima and Delphine make a discovery that could be the key to treating the former’s illness, while Allison runs into Vic in a group meeting.

Orphan Black 2.05 Preview: Rachel Goes on the Warpath

Rachel Duncan is used to being in control, to having the ability to bend the universe to her will. She has the money, the power, and the position to outrank damn near anybody that comes across her path and typically, they acquiesce to her demands. However, Sarah is the rare case of someone not intimidated by who Rachel is and what she’s capable of doing, somebody who’s left Rachel off balance and, frankly, annoyed at how she doesn’t have the upper hand. Thus far, Sarah has been able to safely keep her distance from the so-called Pro Clone, but on tonight’s episode of Orphan Black, her actions come back to bite her.

After discovering Daniel’s death, it won’t take long for Rachel to piece together that the clones had something to do with it, since the last she heard, he had captured Sarah and was bringing her back to the Dyad. Already looking at Sarah as a thorn in her paw, Rachel will then use the influence she has to make her “sister’s” life a living hell, thus setting her sights on Sarah’s loved ones. Sarah is nothing if not loyal to those in her inner circle, so the likes of Paul, Cal, Mrs. S, and the rest of the clones will have giant targets on their backs, making it easier for Rachel to strike against them. Not only will this allow Rachel to exact vengeance for the loss of Daniel, it can be used as leverage to get Sarah to stop running, stop fighting, and sign the contract, as she’s the last holdout among the clones. But will Sarah be able to come up with a plan to protect those she loves and further neutralize Rachel’s impact on their lives?

Orphan Black 2.04 Preview: Sarah Digs for Answers

After Sarah learned about the existence of the clones, she looked to other aspects of her life for stability. Felix was always there for her and only grew closer to her in midst the chaos and Sarah assumed that Mrs. S was the same woman she always knew growing up, someone who might be emotionally distant but with whom she could be herself and who she wouldn’t have to worry about. However, at the birdwatchers’, Sarah caught a glimpse of the Mrs. S she doesn’t know and finally realized that the woman who took her in has as many if not more skeletons in her closet than she does herself.

On tonight’s episode of Orphan Black, after escaping the crash, Sarah enlists Cosima to help her dig for answers about the origins of the clones. What becomes clear, though, is that Siobhan knows more than what Sarah thought and that her former caretaker might be the key to figuring out who she is and where she came from. But Sarah’s seen that Mrs. S is quite dangerous and it might not be best to approach her with accusations regarding the experiment and her involvement/knowledge of Project NEDA. At this point, though, it could be worth the risk, especially since Siobhan told Sarah herself that she’s always been on her side. Sarah needs to find the answers that could help each of the remaining clones and if she can harness Siobhan as a weapon rather than have to fight against her, finding those answers might be easier than she expected.

Orphan Black 2.03 Preview: Sarah Hits the Road with Felix

Once Sarah found out about the grand conspiracy she was involved in and the existence of a group of clones that she was a part of, she had to leave behind her old life, minus her relationship with Kira. Granted, Sarah didn’t have much in the way of roots considering how transient she’s been, but any and all connections to the past had to be severed in the name of protecting those she once loved and keeping herself as off-the-grind as possible. However, now that she and Fe have hit the road with Kira, she’s going to have to reach back out to former connections in her life if she wants to ensure enough distance is between her family and the Dyad institute.

On tonight’s episode of Orphan Black, Sarah turns to Cal, an old flame currently working as a woodsman, for help in concealing herself from those who seek to do her harm. However, there’s nowhere she can run that the Dyad Institute cannot locate and shake down, no one person with the type of resources necessary to shield Sarah and her family from the reality of her life. Whether Sarah likes it or not, she cannot simply run away from who she is and the bounty that remains on her head, so rather than disappearing into the ether with her brother and daughter, she’s brought the weight of her existence down on someone she once loved, putting him in as much danger as she’s been under since that fateful day at the train station.

Elsewhere on Orphan Black, Cosima discovers more about her illness, while Alison, still distraught about her role in Aynsley’s death, must perform in the musical.
