No casting has been made on the project.

Adapted for television by Jon Favreau, Al Gough, and Miles Millar, Shannara centers on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. The first season of the series is said to be based on The Elfstone of Shannara, the second title in the 25-book series and one that has sold some 26 million copies in the United States. Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) is slated to direct the first two episodes before joining the series as an executive producer.

Shannara will be the second genre drama on MTV’s schedule following the success of Teen Wolf, with the network’s other scripted content ranging from high school comedy Awkward. to abduction drama Finding Carter. Among the projects picked up to series that have yet to air are comedy Happyland, to premiere this September, and Victoria Justice vehicle Eye Candy, which is undergoing serious retooling following its pilot. MTV also has a Scream pilot still in development, the only project currently on their development slate.

Will you be watching Shannara? Do you think the show can become something of a Game of Thrones for teens? What type of scripted content would you like to see MTV pursue in the near future?

Teen Wolf, which will be without the services of Crystal Reed and Daniel Sharman, will return for its fourth season Monday, June 23rd at 10:00. Aside from reintroducing a villain from Beacon Hills’ past, this season will consist of 12 episodes, down from the 24 episodes that made up season three. Ridiculousness, meanwhile, is set to return Thursday, July 10th at 10:00, with Rob Dyrdek, Sterling “Steelo” Brim, and Chanel “West Coast” taking on the world of viral videos.

After premiering new comedy Faking It earlier this month, MTV will be premiering new drama Finding Carter Tuesday, July 8th at 10:00. The series, which stars Kathryn Prescott (Skins), tells the story of Carter, a teenage girl who thought she had the perfect life until discovering that the woman she thought was her mother actually abducted her when she was a toddler and raised her as her own child. Also coming to MTV this summer is Snack-Off, a reality-competition series from the mind of Rob Dyrdek. Hosted by Eddie Huang, the series finds amateur cooks battling it out in snack inspired challenges and will premiere Thursday, July 10th at 10:30.

In addition to renewing The Real World, Snooki & JWOWW, and Girl Code, MTV announced three series that should be premiering in the near future: Slednecks, a half-hour docu-series about a group of friends living in Alaska; One Bad Choice, which explores the consequences of bad decisions made by young people; and Beyond Dance, a competition series that challenges professional dancers to move in ways that go beyond what they know.

What do you think will happen during the fourth season of Teen Wolf? Will you be watching Finding Carter this summer? Which newly developed series do you think sounds like the best fit for MTV?

The network will be premiering an as-yet-untitled Miley Cyrus documentary this fall that will document the recording of her upcoming album and the personal transformation she’s underwent over the last few years. Cyrus’s documentary joins similar MTV one-hour special presentations centered on the likes of Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, and Lady Gaga.

Aside from confirming that Teen Wolf‘s winter season will begin January 6th, MTV revealed that the fall season of Awkward and the third season of Snooki & JWOWW will both debut in October, though no concrete premiere dates have been announced. Additionally, the network will be unveiling two new docuseries to go along with said established hits in Generation Cryo, about children who were conceived through anonymous sperm donors, and Nurses, following a group of travel nurses assigned to work at an Orange County hospital for 13 weeks. The former will premiere sometime this November, while the latter is set to make its debut on an undetermined date this fall.

In terms of development, MTV has named Jay Beattie (Revenge, Criminal Minds) and Dan Dworkin (Revenge, Criminal Minds) as writers for the highly anticipated series adaptation of horror movie franchise Scream. The network also announced two new pilots, including high school buddy comedy Faking It and Happyland, which tells the story of a girl whose mother works at a theme park. No new drama pilots have been added to the MTV development roster, however.

Which new comedy pilot do you think sounds like a better fit for MTV? What will it take for MTV’s unlucky scripted streak (e.g. the one season runs of Skins, The Inbetweeners, Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous, Underemployed, and I Just Want My Pants Back) to be broken? Are you looking forward to the next season of Awkward?

There’ll be a weekend-long live stream that will give fans inside access to the convention, interviews with some of the biggest stars in attendance, and a report from panels and press rooms, as well as a party in the park on Thursday, July 18th hosted by MTV2 and featuring musical performances and free food.

In addition, MTV Comics is set to host a live pitch competition on Saturday, July 19th that challenges three top creators to formulate a pitch based on a single topic given to them a few weeks in advance. Fans will then vote for the winner; there’ll also be a signing of MTV Comics’ first graphic novel, written by Tony Lee (Doctor Who) and illustrated by Dan Boultwood. Taking place in the 1940s, “The Gloom!” finds our eponymous hero as America’s last line of defense against the Nazis and features classic pulp heroism.

The network’s lone panel this year will begin on Thursday, July 18th with Teen Wolf’s return to Comic-Con. Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed, Holland Roden, Daniel Sharman, Max Carver, Charlie Carver and Executive Producer Jeff Davis will be giving fans a look at an exclusive new trailer and scoop about the remainder of season three.

You can check out the other shows that will be heading to Comic-Con this year here, here, and <a title="Warner Bros. The weekend convention kicks off on Wednesday, July 17th with a special preview night before panels begin on July 18th and extend through July 21st.

The summer finale, having aired last night, centered on Jenna giving in to her attraction to Colin and cheating on Matty, something that the trailer showcases the ramifications of. While Tamara and Ming want to be supportive of Jenna, they can’t go along with how she’s acting and when Jenna chooses to change how she looks to be with Colin, she might be facing a future without her friends – or Matty. Critical and fan reaction to the actions of Jenna Hamilton has been fairly negative and the character has been deemed as selfish and unlikable, but has she gone too far this time in choosing to continue seeing (and kissing) Colin?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_6Bb9EguRg

The network also confirmed that Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous has been pushed back to 11:00, with Money From Strangers assuming its 10:30 slot from here on. The Bo Burham comedy has struggled in the ratings since its debut and after hitting series lows last week, MTV made the move to lessen the impact it has on their primetime schedule. While not officially canceled, Zach Stone is a dead show walking and unless ratings make enormous strides over the final half of its season, it won’t be continuing for a second season. The show stars Burham as a directionless high school graduate who eschews the college path his friends take and decides to pursue his goal of becoming famous. However, the path to infamy for the former outsider proves to be more difficult than expect. You can check out a sneak peek of the next episode, where Zach plans to create a dating show called The Zachelor, here.

What do you think of the Awkward midseason trailer? Will Jenna realize the error of her ways and be able to save her relationship with Matty? Have you been watching Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous?

The project, currently without any attached writers or talent, will debut summer 2014, with Wes Craven in talks to direct the one-hour pilot. There’s no word on how the show would differ from the film series or the network’s other genre series Teen Wolf, though should the Scream series maintain the tone established by the films, it would fit in well with the Jeff Davis creation.

The network also picked up three reality shows, starting with Generation Cryo, a one-hour docu-drama that explores the issues faced by a new generation of kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors. Specifically, the show will follow 17-year-old Breeanna, who recently learned that she has at least 15 half-siblings all fathered by a man that none of them know. Now, she’s on a mission to meet each of her siblings and find her father.

Next is fellow docu-series Nurse Nation, which follows nine twenty-something travel nurses all assigned to work at a new hospital in a brand new city for 13 weeks. Considering how stressful their new positions are, with the life and death decisions that everyone in the medical profession has to face on a daily basis, it’s no wonder that they all try and take advantage of their time off as best they can, indulging in everything they can in their new host city. Finally, there’s The Hook Up, a dating show hosted by Andrew Schulz. Individuals looking for a match will choose from four potential suitors based on their social media history. With the help of their closest friends, the contestants will try to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

Additionally, MTV has officially renewed Jersey Shore spin-off Snooki & JWOWW for a third season after the show was the #1 original series in the time period across all TV for P12-34 as well as the #1 series in its time period across all TV for W 12-34. There’s no word yet on when it would likely return for another round of episodes, nor how much episodes we should expect of the former party monsters. It’s the first spin-off of the Shore to earn a second season, as The Pauly D Project never took off, but there’ll be another chance for America’s favorite guidos to score another victory when Vinny’s The Show with Vinny premieres May 2nd.

Elsewhere at the upfronts, MTV2 has brought back Nick Cannon’s Wild’n Out, which will debut its re-imagined form on Tuesday, July 9th at 11:00. Joining Nick will be celebrity team captains including comedians Kevin Hart and Lil DuVal of MTV2’s Guy Code, professional basketball player Amar’e Stoudemire, along with rappers Mac Miller, 2Chainz, Machine Gun Kelly, A$AP Rocky and Joe Budden. The network also announced the fall debut of Guy Court, a comedic courtroom series dedicated to upholding the laws of manhood, and that Mac Miller and the Most Dope Family will premiere its second season in early 2014.
