“We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Ewing saga,” a TNT spokesperson said. “We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show’s creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series.”

The revival of the classic CBS soap received blockbuster ratings in its 2012 premiere, hitting over seven million viewers for its first episode that summer. However, the show wasn’t allowed to wholly air in the summer for its final two seasons, a curious decision given how appropriate its tone and content are for summer viewing, and wasn’t given the type of companion piece necessary to dig itself out of the ratings hole it found itself in. Dallas was the only soap on a network known for crime procedurals and with TNT focusing on going very male with its new programming (Legends, The Last Ship), it only stuck out more, a factor that likely aided in its cancellation.

Should this be it for the Dallas revival, the franchise will end up with nearly 400 episodes spanning 26 years once the original and revival are combined. The TNT series finale of Dallas, meanwhile, aired late last month.

Do you think this is the end of the Dallas franchise? Should TNT have given the show an announced final season, especially after the way season three ended? Which network would be the best fit for Dallas at this point?

“Marvel’s brand of entertainment is a thrill ride for audiences, and we’re excited to be adding their next five blockbusters to TNT’s arsenal of high-quality genre fare,” said Deborah K. Bradley, senior vice president, head of program acquisitions, content strategy and licensing for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. “These movies will play a key role in TNT’s long-term success, especially among key adult demos.”

The move comes as TNT looks to rebrand itself into a home for male-skewing dramas. With the addition of Legends and The Last Ship, as well as the Titans adaptation that was recently put into production, the network is actively steering itself away from the type of older procedural that it’s known for. The network is still entrenched in the world of crime drama, but they’ve started trying to tweak the format (e.g. Murder In the First, which followed one case over the course of its first season) and better differentiate their dramas from one another.

Marvel has been embracing television much more readily in the past couple of years, as it has Agents of Shield already on the air, Agent Carter set to premiere come midseason, and five Netflix dramas that will be debuting over the course of the next few years. Along with DC, which has Gotham, The Flash, and Constantine premiering this fall, the company has helped bring the spectacle of comic movies to television and it looks as if there’s still quite the demand for a good hero, regardless of how many comic dramas there are already on television.

Do you think that this is a wise move for TNT? Can the network successfully rebrand itself as a home for action-oriented drama? Which comic character would you like to see frontline their own drama?

The series, which wrapped its first season earlier this summer, ranked as one of basic cable’s Top 10 series of the summer, having averaged 4.7 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery, including 1.3 million adults 25-54, and reaching 9.2 million viewers through multiple platforms.

Executive produced by Steven Bochco (NYPD Blue), the first season of Murder In the First followed homicide detectives Terry English (Taye Diggs) and Hildy Mulligan (Kathleen Robertson) as they investigated two seemingly unrelated crimes that had a common link in Silicon Valley. The series differs from the typical TNT crime drama in that it focused an entire season on the link between the two crimes rather than devoting single episodes to investigating smaller incidents.

In addition to Diggs and Robertson, the first season of Murder In the First featured Tom Felton (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Steven Weber (Chasing Life), James Cromwell (American Horror Story: Asylum), Richard Schiff (The West Wing), and Nicole Ari Parker (Boogie Nights). There’s no word yet on what crime the second season would spotlight or which members of the supporting cast would carry over into a second season.

The renewal of Murder In the First follows the recent renewals of Falling Skies, The Last Ship, and Major Crimes. Among the TNT series that have yet to have their fates decided are Legends and Dallas.

What type of crime would you like to see Terry and Hildy investigate in season two? Do you think the show should continue its one-crime-a-season format or would you want to see some smaller arcs? Who would you like to see added to Murder In the First for a second season?

“TNT’s refreshed and recharged drama brand is soaring this summer, and that is due in large part to these three enormously popular dramas,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “The Last Ship has become this summer’s top drama among key adult demos with its epic scale and visceral storytelling. Major Crimes continues to be one of the most enduring and popular crime-drama franchises on television. And Falling Skies has begun an ambitious and thrilling story arc this summer as it sets the stage for next year’s climactic final season.”

While The Last Ship has become basic cable’s #1 scripted series this summer in adults 18-49 and the TNT target demo of adults 25-54, Major Crimes has seen an uptick in total viewership that has put it behind only Rizzoli & Isles and Falling Skies has been averaging some 5.5 million total viewers in L+7. Interestingly, Perception and Murder in the First have been left out of the TNT mass renewal; it’s not necessarily a sign of doom for either show, considering that each still has several episodes remaining in which to make a case for their renewal, but it’s hard not to look at this as an indication of vulnerability. With TNT looking to go younger with its programming choices, Perception not breaking out following the biggest lead-in on the network and Murder in the First failing to stir up much in the way of buzz might cause both to lost their spots on the schedule.

The Last Ship airs Sundays at 9:00 on TNT, with Falling Skies following at 10:00 and Major Crimes airing Mondays at 9:00.

Have you been watching The Last Ship? What have you thought about this season of Major Crimes? Are you sad that there’s only one season of Falling Skies remaining?

The cable network has ordered 10 episodes of a scripted drama based off The Librarian film franchise, entitled The Librarians, and has tapped Rebecca Romijn to star.

Librarian crator Dean Devlin will return to the project to executive produce alongside John Rogers and Marc Roskin, who previously served as co-EP on the three films.

Noah Wyle, star of the TNT movie trilogy, will also be reprising his role as Flynn Carsen while also serving as one of the show”s executive producers. This is in addition to his casino online regular role on the same networks” sci-fi drama Falling Skies.

The new series, expected to premiere in late 2014, will ceter on four people from around the world who are enlisted by Flynn to serve as “Librarians”: members of an ancient organization who are dedicated to protecting the world from the secret, magical reality of history.

Romijn will star as Eve Baird, a highly skilled counterterrorism agent, responsible for protecting the group. John Larroquette will oversee the new team of Librarians as Jenkins, an expert in ancient lore.

Also starring, Christian Kane (Leverage) will play Jake Stone, an Oklahoma oil worker with a 190 IQ and encyclopedic knowledge of art history. Lindsey Booth (Dawn of the Dead) will play Cassandra, a “quirky woman” with a special gift of auditory and sensory hallucinations linked to memory retrieval, and John Kim (The Pacific) will portray Ezekiel Jones, master of new technologies and expert of classic crimes.

Falling Skies” Matt Frewer will also recur as Dulaque, a mysterious immortal who oversees a ancient cult.

Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin will also reprise their roles from the films for the series.

While Falling Skies returns Sunday, June 22nd at 10:00, the show gets a lead-in for the first time in the form of The Last Ship, which premieres the same night at 9:00. Executive produced by Michael Bay, the series stars Eric Dane (Grey”s Anatomy) as Naval Captain Tom Chandler, in charge of the U.S.S. Nathan James. With a global catastrophe that decimated the world”s population in their rearview mirror, the crew must confront the idea that they”re some of the few remaining humans on Earth. In addition to Dane, The Last Ship stars Rhona Mitra (Strike Back) as Rachel Scott, the ship”s paleomicrobiologist and Adam Baldwin (Firefly) as XO Mike Slattery, Chandler”s second-in-command.

Wednesday, August 20th will see the premiere of Legends, a thriller based on the award-winning book by spy novelist Robert Littell. Starring Sean Bean (Game of Thrones), the series tells the story of Martin Odum, an undercover FBI agent with the ability to completely transform himself into online casino another person for each job. Soon enough, though, he”s confronted with the notion that the man he thinks himself to be isn”t who he truly is. In addition to Bean, the series stars Ali Larter (Heroes) as Crystal Quest, an FBI operative who has history with Odum; Morris Chestnut (Nurse Jackie) as Tony Cimarro, a DCO agent; Tina Majorino (Veronica Mars) as Maggie Harris, the newest member of the DCO team; Steve Harris (Awake) as Nelson Gates, director of the DCO task force; and Mason Cook (The Lone Ranger) as Martin”s pre-teen son Aiden.

Premiere dates for Major Crimes, Perception, Rizzoli & Isles, Franklin & Bash, Dallas, and Stephen Bocho drama Murder in the First will all be revealed at a later date.

What do you think will happen on Falling Skies this season? Will you be watching either Legends or The Last Ship? Do you expect either one to be the next big hit for TNT?

On the Menu will offer a new spin on the cooking competition format, by allowing viewers to taste dishes they see on screen the day after an episode airs.

How, you ask?

Every episode of On the Menu will center on a different American food business, from chains to stadium concession stands and everythign in between. Home cooks will work with professional chefs to create the business’ next signature item. The winning dish will then appear on the business’ menue the next day.

The concept is not far off from NBC’s Fashion Star, which puts winning designs on sale in retails stores after broadcasts.

TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the competition show, with plans to launch it next year.

Law, NYPD Blue) drama Murder in the First up to series with a 10-episode first season order. Set to premiere in summer 2014, the series stars Taye Diggs (Private Practice) and Kathleen Robertson (Boss) as homicide detectives Terry English and Hildy Mulligan, whose investigation into the murder of a drug addict lead them to the doorstep of a software prodigy.

“Murder in the First sets up an engrossing, season-long mystery that’s certain to appeal to TNT fans,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We are thrilled to be working with Steven Bochco once again. We look forward to seeing this fascinating mystery unspool in the hands of Steven, Eric Lodal and the incredible cast and crew of Murder in the First.”

In addition to Diggs and Robertson, Murder in the First stars the likes of Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Steven Weber (Wings), and Raphael Sbarge (Once Upon a Time). The series will be one of several new offerings from TNT in the coming year, with Mob City slated to premiere in December and The Last Ship and Legends set to air during the summer.

Reportedly, decisions on the TNT dramas that have yet to learn their fate, including King & Maxwell and Franklin & Bash, will be made in the coming weeks, though with the huge influx of new programming, a renewal for either is questionable at best. There’s been massive turnover at the network in recent months with the cancellations of Southland and Monday Mornings and the feeling that their focus is going to be on launching louder, broader reaching programming, so the lack of buzz during the season for King and Franklin might end up being their respective death knells.

Does Murder in the First sound like something you would watch? How can the premise be extended beyond a season or two of material? Is this the type of crime drama that TNT should be embracing?

In addition, all three series rank among basic cable’s Top 10 summer dramas with adults 25-54.

“TNT has had a terrific summer with four big hits that have drawn viewers with great storytelling, engaging characters and outstanding performances,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “With the renewals of Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes, Falling Skies, and Perception, TNT has built an incredibly strong arsenal of scripted series. And it’s only going to get stronger with the addition of Mob City and the return of Dallas this winter, not to mention the debuts of The Last Ship and Legends next summer.”

Rizzoli & Isles will be headed into its 15-episode fifth season after ending its summer run on September 10th and returning in early 2014 for the second half of season four. Returning for their respective third seasons will be Major Crimes, the spin-off of The Closer starring Mary McDonnell, and Perception, starring Eric McCormack as a schizophrenic neuroscience professor, with each third season consisting of 15 episodes. Major Crimes will wrap its summer run of episodes on August 19th before returning on November 25th, while Perception has its summer finale slated for August 27th and won’t return for new episodes until early 2014.

The TNT series that haven’t had their fates officially decided are Franklin & Bash, 72 Hours, The Hero, and King & Maxwell. News of their renewal statuses should break in the coming weeks.

Major Crimes currently airs Mondays at 9:00, with Rizzoli & Isles airing on Tuesdays at 9:00 and Perception following at 10:00.

Which of the show TNT has yet to decide on do you think will come back? Are you looking forward to The Last Ship and Legends next summer? What do you think about TNT splitting up seasons rather than giving their shows one uninterrupted run of episodes?

The show, which has been given a 10-episode first season that will debut in summer 2014, centers on Martin Odum, an undercover agent working for the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations (D.C.O.) division who has the ability to turn himself into a new person for each job. However, when Martin meets a mysterious stranger that suggests that he’s not who he believes himself to be, he begins questioning his own identity.

“Legends has everything you want in a good spy drama: intriguing characters, multi-layered plots, a terrific cast and lots of action and suspense,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “At the center of it all is Sean Bean, giving an outstanding performance in an extremely complex and difficult role. We are very excited to work with Howard Gordon and his fellow executive producers, who have put together a truly extraordinary drama.”

In addition to Bean, Legends stars Ali Larter (Heroes) as Crystal Quest, a fellow operative who has a history with Martin and is uneasy about his return to D.C.O.; Rob Mayes (The Client List) as Troy Quinn, a former Special Ops agent with a single-minded mission-first mentality; Tina Majorino (Grey’s Anatomy) as Maggie Harris, the newest member of the DCO team; Steve Harris (The Practice) as Nelson Gates, the director of the DCO Task Force; Amber Valletta (Revenge) as Sonya Odum, Martin’s ex-wife; and Lux Haney Jardine (Abraham Lincon: Vampire Hunter) as Martin’s pre-teen son, Aiden.

Legends is based on the award-winning book of the same title by spy novelist Robert Littell.

Does Legends sound like something you would watch? Are you happy to have Sean Bean back on television? Where do you think a show like this can conceivably go, story-wise?
