I thought it was a smart move for The CW to leverage the success of Diaries into a spin-off, especially after an underwhelming 2012-2013 season, but otherwise, it seemed like a show for a very specific fan base that, for better or worse, I was not a part of. However, The Originals soon generated the type of buzz that was unavoidable and transcended those with an intimate knowledge of Mystic Falls and the exploits of the infamous Mikaelson siblings, with special attention being paid to how the show used its New Orleans setting and the dynamic chemistry between the three leads. With several falls shows falling by the wayside, I caught up on the battle for New Orleans and the push-pull between domineering Klaus, noble Elijah, and fierce Rebekah, to the point where The Originals was a show I anticipated more than I expected.

Which is why the news of Claire Holt’s exit as a series regular hit as hard as it did. For all the witches, voodoo, flashbacks, and monologues, The Originals thrived when all three Mikaelson siblings were thrown together and allowed to bounce off of one another, likely as a result of a Klaus temper tantrum or a crisis involving the fate of Hayley’s child. Above all else, this was a show, as the seemingly endless exposition pointed out, about family and the type of situation that The Originals documented felt like a rare occurrence, a rare instance of a genre program finding a seam and a unique viewpoint in an increasingly crowded field. While The Vampire Diaries has been doing the good-brother-versus-bad-brother schtick for the past five seasons, Rebekah Mikaelson’s presence on The Originals was the heart of the show, the x-factor that made it such a compelling watch rather than a retread of the mothership. We know what a show with diametrically opposed brothers looks, feels, and sounds like and although Diaries has ridden that formula to some considerable success, it would have been terribly boring if The Originals was The Vampire Diaries: New Orleans, hence the beginning of the season being as invigorating as it was and Rebekah’s exit being such a blow. The show did need a change from its pattern of “Klaus does something bad, gets chastised, throws a fit, blames his father, and plays the victim,” but instead of keeping Rebekah, who proved herself as a strong counterbalance against Klaus and a voice of reason for increasingly forgiving Elijah, and altering the formula of the show another way, The Originals has become The Klaus Mikaelson Experience.

It’s not even that I don’t like Klaus; Joseph Morgan plays him quite well and I think the character adds a lot to the show, particularly when The Originals addresses issues of forgiveness, nature vs. nurture (e.g. is Klaus evil or did Mikael make him evil?), and the bonds of family. It’s that the show has allowed him to run wild through the streets of New Orleans with no real system of checks and balances to keep him in his place and, as such, has stripped itself of anything resembling dramatic tension. With Rebekah around, you knew that there was someone willing to call Klaus out on his shenanigans and remind him that as much as he cried about his feelings of loneliness and his need for a family, he was the one who pushed her and Elijah away and he was the one who made it clear that he’s unwilling to give up the control he’s exerted on both of their lives. While the show might not have allowed Klaus to make much in the way of personal progress, or positioned any of its characters as being powerful enough to stop Klaus from doing as he pleases, it made sure to remind him that he was the root of his own destruction, which was better than nothing. However, now that Elijah is the lone Mikaelson sibling left, Klaus likely won’t even have that type of reminder anymore, since we’ve seen that Elijah is unwilling to do anything to get on his brother’s bad side, lest the family unit he hold near and dear disintegrate before his eyes. Dramatic television thrives in conflict and obstacles and The Originals removed both when it got rid of Rebekah; unless the show is willing to toughen Elijah up and have him willing to call Klaus out without caveat, it just got much less interesting.

And then there’s the fact that Saving Hope, a Canadian medical drama co-starring Originals star Daniel Gillies, was renewed for a third season. That show took Elijah away from the action for several episodes at the beginning of the season, but it was okay then, as the focus shifted to powerful witch Davina, Rebekah’s complicated past with Marcel, and Klaus’ quest to rule New Orleans once again. Without Rebekah, though, The Originals isn’t going to be able to cover Elijah’s absence as well, throwing off the balance of the show in the process. Granted, they could bring in additional regulars between now and then or use Claire Holt for a quick arc; it’s just that the show now feels A) underpopulated and B) especially underpopulated of strong female characters. This season, the show has been quick to cut/declaw female characters who were either proactive (annoying witch Sophie) or had the power to really do damage to The Originals (Elijah’s former lover Celeste) in favor of female characters who barely do anything on their own volition (pregnant werewolf Hayley) or bring the narrative momentum to a halt (human cypher Cami), all the while bringing a been-there-done-that love triangle between Klaus, Elijah, and Hayley to the forefront. In the world of The Originals, women don’t get to go up against Klaus, nor are they allowed to steal any of the attention from the vaunted King of New Orleans; this is Klaus Mikaelson’s world and we’re all just living in it, at least according to the writers of The Originals.

Whether Claire Holt’s exit was a result of her not wanting to play Rebekah for any longer or a creative decision by the higher-ups at The Originals, the character of Rebekah Mikaelson will be greatly missed from here on out. Rebekah was the heart of The Originals, the vampire with the most humanistic qualities (e.g. her desire to be loved), and without her, the show threatens to evolve into a Vampire Diaries retread and, ironically, lose what made it such an original series in the first place. There’s still plenty of raw material to make The Originals a strong show, but Rebekah was the stabilizing element that kept Elijah from becoming too much of a Klaus sycophant, gave Hayley an ally in the Mikaelson family that didn’t hinge upon romantic feelings, and provided Marcel with extra motivation to go up against Klaus and retain his New Orleans kingdom. I hope the show has a plan in how it’s going to rejigger itself into a leaner, meaner version of its former self; I fear, though, that how in love the show is with Klaus will swallow everything promising, everything unique, and everything compelling whole.

The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8:00 on The CW.

It can seem like a fool’s errand, trying to keep the Originals together, but it’s become Elijah’s mission in life and he’s somehow managed to keep Rebekah and Klaus from destroying one another for centuries, so his even keel nature must have some type of positive impact on the family’s health. However, not even the mighty, noble Elijah could protect Rebekah from Klaus while the trio are trapped in City of the Dead, though he’s going to do his damndest to try.

On the next episode of The Originals, Elijah steps in between Klaus and Rebekah to try and get the siblings on the same page once again. However, he didn’t count on his brother wielding the one thing that can kill an Original, so Klaus might be too far gone; if so, Elijah’s best bet is to stall for time and wait out the boundary spell. It might not be pleasant listening to Klaus and Rebekah snipe at one another, but it beats having to battle Klaus and further rupture the fabric of the Mikaelson family. And it seems that Elijah has a family secret just waiting to be unleashed at the right time, possibly as a last ditch effort to bring Klaus and Rebekah back together. Is there a chance that the Mikaelsons escape the cemetery in one piece and more united than ever?

Elsewhere on The Originals, Marcel is forced to make a deal with Genevieve in order to help free Rebekah, while Rebekah connects with Hayley over their shared concerns for the unborn child.

The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8:00 on The CW.

Do you think that the Mikaelson dynamic will change after this episode? How will the boundary spell be lifted and the Mikaelson siblings freed from the cemetery? Is Hayley right to be concerned about bringing her child into an environment like this?

Klaus has always been destructively overprotective of Rebekah, keeping her close to him with a dagger to her throat, and his twisted sense of morality and loyalty will cause him to chase her to the ends of the Earth in order to exact revenge for her betrayal. After letting her spend a century with a dagger-induced sleep, what Klaus has planned for his baby sister this time could put her on the brink of death – that is, if he can find her and Marcel.

On tonight’s episode of The Originals, Rebekah and Marcel contemplate leaving New Orleans for good, as they know Klaus will stop at nothing to see that they’re both punished. Though Marcel wants to make a go at a life outside the Big Easy, Rebekah knows from her centuries with her brother that it’s no use trying to escape him, that he will never let her out of his grasp long enough to taste the freedom she so desires. However, it might be worth a shot regardless, if only for the peace of mind; if Rebekah and Marcel don’t make an honest attempt at an escape, they’ll never know if they could have truly left New Orleans behind and outwitted Klaus when he made his play to wrangle them back into his increasingly tangled web. While they would likely face great pain and anguish if/when Klaus caught up to them, the greater pain might be in not giving themselves a chance at escaping the city and living the life that they always wanted.

Elsewhere on The Originals, Klaus opens up to Cami about the secret Rebekah and Marcel kept from him, while Elijah forms an alliance with Monique, Thierry gets approached with a plan to bring down the witches, and Hayley holds Celeste hostage in the Bayou in order to get information on how to reverse the curse on her family.

The Originals airs tonight at 8:00 on The CW.

Do you think Rebekah and Marcel will decide to leave New Orleans? Why would Elijah form an alliance with Monique? Are the days of the witches numbered now that the vampires are conspiring against them?

The following week, fellow freshman drama Star-Crossed will close out its season, this time at 8:00.

The Tuesday dramas will also be concluding their 2013-2014 runs a week apart, with The Originals drawing to a close on May 13th at 8:00 and Supernatural‘s ninth season going out with a bang on May 20th at 9:00. Arrow will conclude its third season on Wednesday, May 14th at 8:00, with midseason drama The 100 stretching its way into June with a first season finale on June 11th at 9:00. The Thursday dramas will be the only CW pairing that ends on the same night, as The Vampire Diaries and Reign will have their respective season finales on Thursday, May 15th. The lone remaining series, Hart of Dixie, will end its third season on Friday, May 16th at 9:00.

No date has been set for the resumption of Beauty and the Beast‘s second season, though The CW has announced that two-part miniseries Labyrinth will air Thursday, May 22nd and Friday, May 23rd. The project, which stars the likes of Katie McGrath and Tom Felton, chronicles the journeys of two women separated by centuries as they hunt for The Holy Grail.

Season finale dates for ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX should all be released in the coming weeks, likely around the time we get summer schedules for each network.

Which CW finale are you most looking forward to? Of the currently unrenewed shows (Hart of Dixie, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Star-Crossed, The 100, and The Tomorrow People), which do you think make it to another season? Are you surprised that talk of the end of the season has already begun?

What usually transpires are minor spats between Rebekah and Klaus, both full of piss and vinegar, with each of them using Elijah as a sounding board; it makes sense, as he’s clearly the most invested in keeping the trio together as a family and is impartial enough to where he can provide them with moments of honesty, but recently on The Originals, Elijah’s standing in the family has taken a fall. Namely because he chose to save Hayley over his siblings, who were attacked by werewolves and a dagger in his absence, and now he has to deal with the fact that he and his siblings might have to grow further apart before they get snapped back together. But does he still have enough pull with them to be able to settle a dispute with a revelation from the family’s past?

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the next three episodes of The Originals.

Tuesday, February 25th – “Long Way Back from Hell”
When Rebekah (Claire Holt) finds herself locked up in the sanatorium where she worked in 1919, she realizes a witch named Genevieve (guest star Elyse Levesque) is back to seek revenge and to reveal dark secrets that would destroy Rebekah if exposed. A distraught Elijah (Daniel Gillies) turns to Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) for help when one of his decisions puts Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah’s lives in danger. With time working against them, Marcel realizes he may hold valuable information that could lead them to Rebekah and Klaus, but revealing it will almost certainly result in deadly consequences.

Tuesday, March 4th – “Le Grand Guignol”
In a series of flashbacks to 1919, Klaus opens up to Cami (Leah Pipes) and reveals details of the devastating secret Rebekah and Marcel were trying to keep from him. Elijah forms an unlikely alliance with Monique (guest star Yasmine Al Bustami) and asks for her help in locating Sabine (guest star Shannon Kane.) Elsewhere, Thierry (guest star Callard Harris) is reluctant to get involved when Marcel and Rebekah approach him with a plan to take down the witches. Meanwhile, in the bayou, Hayley is at her wits’ end and holds Sabine hostage in an attempt to get information that will reverse the curse on Phoebe’s werewolf clan.

Tuesday, March 11th – “Farewell to Storyville”
Despite Klaus’ rage, Elijah is determined to protect Rebekah while the three of them are trapped in the City of the Dead cemetery by a witch’s boundary spell. Klaus and Rebekah trade bitter accusations until Elijah steps in to reveal a long-held secret from the family’s past. Meanwhile, Marcel races to free Rebekah, ultimately finding himself forced to make a deal with Genevieve. Finally, Rebekah and Hayley connect over their shared concern for Hayley’s unborn baby.

The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8:00 on The CW.

Since he’s risen to become the King of New Orleans, there’s no way she could live anything resembling a healthy or happy life without having him leering over her shoulder, especially when Klaus has made it clear that he doesn’t want Rebekah to separate herself too much from him and Elijah. For centuries, he’s held her tightly in the palm of his hand and Rebekah has continually allowed him to crush her spirit, but while she has every reason to want to hurt him physically and emotionally, the one major weapon that she has – the secret that she shares with Marcel from 1919 – cannot be deployed.

On the next episode of The Originals, Rebekah finds herself held in a sanatorium that was home to legions of influenza victims during the epidemic of 1919. Celeste and Genevieve, Rebekah’s captors, are especially determined to unearth the secret that Rebekah has been keeping for the past century, a way of obliterating whatever bond remains between the Originals. While the family of vampires may be immortal, there are things that their enemies can do to destroy them here on Earth and if Klaus gets wind of what Rebekah did back then, and the fact that she’s kept a secret this huge from him for this long, there will be hell to pay, the likes of which that would make her time in the coffin with a dagger in her chest look like child’s play.

Elsewhere on The Originals, Elijah struggles with the ramifications of his choosing Hayley over Rebekah and Klaus, while Marcel might have the information necessary to rescue the Originals – only it will likely result in costly collateral damage.

The Originals airs tonight at 8:00 on The CW.

What about Rebekah’s past could be so damaging that she’s this tortured at the thought of Klaus finding out? Will Elijah be able to live with himself for choosing Hayley over his siblings? How much collateral damage will be incurred by Marcel using his information to save Rebekah and Klaus?

“This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz in a statement. “The Vampire Diaries is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”

Thus far this season, The CW is up 14% in the 18-49 demo vs. last season, as well as 3% in total viewers, thanks to a strong rookie class that includes The Originals and Reign. Without an early renewal are Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries, The Tomorrow People, and Beauty and the Beast, though Hart and Tomorrow will likely have their fates decided after moving to their new nights later in the season. Carrie and Beauty are in more precarious positions, the former due to already concluding its second season and the latter due to a hiatus that begins next month and extends into May.

The CW will be unveiling its 2014-2015 schedule Friday, May 16th. It’s possible that additional early renewals will be granted, but it’s more likely that the fates of the shows mentioned will be revealed closer to the upfront presentation.

Which of Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries, The Tomorrow People, and Beauty and the Beast will be renewed for next season? What type of shows would you like The CW to develop for 2014-2015? Are you surprised at how strongly The Originals and Reign have performed this season?

While the history of her lineage is now within reach for the first time in her life, which would help her gain the sense of self that she’s been lacking thus far, anyone and anything living in and around New Orleans is in danger thanks to the struggle for control of the city, as well as the impending war between the witches and vampires. Just as Hayley made great progress toward understanding herself and finding the feeling of belonging that she’s never known, she has to worry about Klaus power tripping his way through her clan or strong arming Elijah into leading him right to the source of the werewolves.

On tonight’s episode of The Originals, it’s a full moon in New Orleans, meaning that Hayley’s family will get the night to return to their human forms. However, they’re walking into the middle of a New Orleans that could turn them into collateral damage or weapons used against another faction in hopes of gaining control of the city. Even though Hayley has Elijah and Rebekah mostly on her side, the two have yet to fully swear off their allegiance to Klaus and if the new King of New Orleans makes a drastic play to destroy the witches once and for all, there’s a high probability that the werewolves will be involved and that no one will intervene on Hayley’s or her family’s behalves. Is Hayley going to be able to protect her family for the duration of the full moon and see to it that they make it back to the bayou alright?

Elsewhere on The Originals, Father Kieran has a run-in with a witch from his past, while Sophie makes a shocking discovery at the cemetery, Elijah finds himself having to choose between Hayley and his siblings, and Klaus takes desperate measure in the Cauldron following a failure.

The Originals airs tonight at 8:00 on The CW.

Will Hayley’s family be able to make it through their monthly night as humans in one piece? What will Sophie discover while at the cemetery? Is there any chance that Elijah will side with Hayley and against both Rebekah and Klaus?

At the root of the turn of events that left Davina dead was Sabine/Celeste, tired of hiding her identity and motivated for revenge by her execution; Celeste is in an especially good spot right now, since no one suspects that the woman they know as Sabine isn’t actually Sabine, and could be preparing to inflict some serious damages on a fractured Originals alliance still reeling from the loss of Davina.

On tonight’s episode of The Originals, with Marcel already refusing to help Klaus, Rebekah finds evidence of a sacrifice down by the docks, which looks like the work of a warlock from her past. However, rather than brush aside her feelings for Klaus, she decides to go it alone, seeing as how she doesn’t know if she can trust his invitation to bring her back into the fold. Rebekah has been burned (and, well, stabbed) too many times by her brother to think that this time, he really does want to be on the same side and this time, he cleaned up his act, but by partitioning herself off from Klaus, she might be doing damage to her relationship with Elijah, who has quickly attached himself to his brother in hopes of their family bond finally repairing itself for good. Should Rebekah put everything with Davina aside and realign herself with her brothers in order to defeat the latest evil that has arrived in New Orleans?

Elsewhere on The Originals, Marcel confides in Cami details from his past, while Klaus faces off with a foe who possesses an unmatched advantage over him and Elijah sets off with Hayley when he learns that Rebekah may be in trouble.

The Originals airs tonight at 8:00 on The CW.

Which enemy do you think poses the greatest threat to The Originals? Do you think there’ll be a way for Davina to be resurrected? Should Marcel forgive Klaus for the events that led to Davina’s death and align with the vampire king for the sake of them both?

He might not have her best interest at heart, but he”s a safer option to hide herself behind than Klaus and he”s strong enough to keep the witches at bay.Vedonlyonnista tuttu Unibet tarjoaa myos loistavaa nettikasino a. In the New Orleans that Marcel has built over the past century, someone who could be harnessed as a weapon cannot afford to be by themselves and with Davina not having any experience in taking care of herself in the type of snake pit that she”s willingly walking into, her new situation is especially dangerous. Though she has Josh by her side, he”s even more inexperienced as far as the supernatural world than she is and as such, doesn”t make her any less susceptible to the advances of those who wish to do her harm.

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the next three episodes of The Originals.

Tuesday, January 14th – “The Casket Girls”
As the French Quarter prepares for its annual celebration of the Casket Girls Festival, Cami (Leah Pipes) suffers through as Davina (Danielle Campbell) attempts to free her of Klaus” (Joseph Morgan) mind compulsion. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) form an unlikely alliance as Klaus sets his plan in motion to get Davina back. Once it”s known that Davina is missing, Sophie (Daniella Pineda) gets in on the hunt to track her down. Meanwhile, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is forced to make a tough decision after receiving an unexpected phone call, and Rebekah (Claire Holt) sets her own plan in motion when she enlists the help of someone from Marcel”s past.

Tuesday, January 21st – “Apres Moi, Le Deluge”
When Davina becomes violently ill and the repercussions soon begin to affect the entire French Quarter, Marcel, Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah rush to find out what is going on. Sophie approaches the others with some startling information about the Harvest Festival and presents a drastic plan to save Davina. Elsewhere, Hayley is racked with guilt as she comes clean to Elijah about her role in Sophie”s plan. Last, a sequence of unforeseen events sends shockwaves through the French Quarter.

Tuesday, January 28th – “Dance Back from the Grave”
Marcel, still angered by recent events, refuses to help Klaus when a gruesome discovery is made in the Cauldron. Rebekah is on alert when she uncovers the remnants of a sacrifice down by the docks and immediately realizes that it”s the work of a dangerous warlock from their past. Meanwhile, when Elijah gets some information that Rebekah may be in trouble, he and Hayley set off to find her. At Rousseau”s, Cami comforts Marcel, who opens up and shares some details of his past with her, but things quickly spiral out of control when an unexpected visitor shows up. Finally, a violent confrontation ensues when Klaus faces off against a powerful force with an unmatched advantage over him.

The Originals airs Tuesdays at 8:00 on The CW.

What do you think is powerful enough to send shockwaves through the French Quarter? Could the information Elijah receives about Rebekah not be trustworthy? Is Hayley putting herself in danger by confessing to Elijah about her role in Sophie”s plan?
