The network has confirmed the cancellation of the cult-favorite comedy, a move long seen coming – unfortunately – by many. The Friday night laugher grew a loyal audience of fans who have been anxiously awaiting for the show to be given a second chance – and decent time slot. Sadly, it won’t be happening.

Fox has also cancelled Seth MacFarlane’s Dads. Slightly surprising, as despite poor critical reception the show has been seen as likely to be renewed by the net that has stood by the show since its all-around offensive pilot episode.

Also cancelled is Surviving Jack, single-camera sitcom based on author Justin Halpern’s autobiographical book, “I Suck at Girls”, starring Christopher Meloni.

These cancellations leave Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Fox’s only surviving freshman comedy this season.

Will you miss these comedies?

The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that Fox has pulled the plug on Greg Kinnear-starrer Rake.

SURVIVING JACK (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) – “She Drives Me Crazy”
In an effort to have Rachel (Claudia Lee) more engaged in school and take her future seriously, Jack (Christopher Meloni) gets her a spot on the wrestling team, much to the chagrin of the wrestling coach (guest star Neil Flynn, “The Middle”). Also, Joanne realizes that Frankie is now too embarrassed to be seen with her during their annual mother-son trip.

Thursday, May 8
HELL’S KITCHEN (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) – “12 Chefs Compete”
In the ultimate adaptability challenge, the remaining contestants are given 30 minutes to shine and create entrées made up of the surprise ingredients hidden under four domes. Chef Ramsay and VIP guest judge Chef Michael Cimarusti will determine which team will go down the coast for a scenic lunch and volleyball lesson with Kerri Walsh Jennings and which team will stay behind to do all the chores for the servers at HELL’S KITCHEN. Later, tensions rise as Chef Ramsay announces it is time for one-on-one performance evaluations, and then he decides to do something never done before in the history of HELL’S KITCHEN.

AMERICAN IDOL XIII (9:00-9:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) – “1 of 4 Voted Off”
The tension mounts, as another finalist is sent home in an all-new LIVE results show.

Thursday, May 15
HELL’S KITCHEN (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) – “11 Chefs Compete”
In the continuation of an emotional elimination round, Chef Ramsay takes the remaining contestants on a surprise field trip to a local gastropub. Later, during dinner service, the two teams must prepare meals inspired by Chef Ramsay’s cuisine. While one team rules the kitchen, the other struggles with communication, resulting in yet another dramatic elimination.

AMERICAN IDOL XIII (9:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) – “1 of 3 Voted Off”
It’s the end of the line for another finalist, who is sent home in an all-new LIVE results show.

Chef Ramsay heads to Woodland Park, CO, where he is tasked with saving Mangia Mangia, an Italian joint with an identity crisis. But the atmosphere, food and service prove to be the least of its problems, as tensions flare and the morale among owner Julie and her staff is at an all-time low.

Of note is the Sunday lineup ending on the same night rather than having their finales staggered, while American Idol‘s finale gets pushed forward a day in order to conclude on the last night of May sweeps. The latest FOX finale this season is miniseries Cosmos, which will extend into June.

However, it’s not all good news, as finale dates for both Rake and Enlisted have yet to be confirmed, not a positive sign for their future on the network. While Hell’s Kitchen will air into the summer, its finale date also currently unknown, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to conclude its first season on March 25th and the one-hour series finale of Raising Hope will premiere Friday, April 4th.

FOX will unveil its fall 2014 schedule on Monday, May 12th.

What do you think about FOX’s plans for the end of the season? Which currently unrenewed FOX shows do you think make it to next season? How should FOX handle its schedule next season?

The series, which stars Greg Kinnear, will lead into new episodes of Enlisted and Raising Hope. Premiering on Thursday, March 13th at 8:00 is the next season of Hell’s Kitchen, which will oust the American Idol results show from its time slot and move that now 30-minute schedule filler to 9:00. Christopher Meloni comedy Surviving Jack will still follow the Idol results show, this time at 9:30, and premiere March 27th.

It’s a series of understandable moves for FOX, which couldn’t handle Rake’s ratings another week in an important slot and needed the late-season stability that comes from any of their Gordon Ramsey-fronted series. However, using it to lead into American Idol indicates a lack of confidence in the venerable talent competition and Surviving Jack might pay the price, as it’s now effectively on its own; the network possibly should have hammocked it between Idol and Hell’s Kitchen, particularly if Idol is vulnerable come late spring. This is also another harsh blow to the chances of Enlisted and Raising Hope, which had been bandied about as a potential Thursday replacement for Rake. The former comedy would have gotten its greatest sampling yet on a heavily trafficked night, but instead, it’s gone from having sturdy Bones as a lead-in to the lowest-rated drama on the network.

FOX has made a series of scheduling moves this midseason, yet every night on their schedule is shaky at best. The Following is down; Glee is putting up numbers that make the network regret giving it a two-season renewal last year; New Girl and Brooklyn Nine-Nine have deflated since the Super Bowl; American Idol is down; Rake was a non-starter; and both Enlisted and Raising Hope had no shot airing on a Friday. This move might get them to the end of the season in one piece, but how will they look this time next season?

Did FOX pick the right replacement for Rake? Do you think Surviving Jack has a chance to find an audience? Should the network have used Hell’s Kitchen on Fridays and something else on Thursdays?

FOX has made mention of a half-hour Idol results show for years, though, so there’s always a chance that plans could change and Surviving Jack could be on the move. 24, meanwhile, returns on Monday, May 5th at 8:00 with a two-hour premiere that finds Jack Bauer looking to thwart an impending terrorist attack in London. New to the cast for the 12-part event are Yvonne Strahovski, Giles Matthey, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Michael Wincott, and Academy Award nominee Judy Davis.

Finally, crime drama Gang Related is set to launch Tuesday, May 20th at 9:00 following part one of the American Idol season finale. Created by Chris Morgan (Fast Five), the series stars Ramon Rodriguez as Ryan Lopez, a rising star in Los Angeles’ elite Gang Task Force. Along with Sam Chappel (Terry O’Quinn) and Cassius Green (RZA), Ryan looks to take on the gangs of Los Angeles, including the one he swore allegiance to as a boy. In addition to Rodriguez, O’Quinn, and RZA, Gang Related will feature the likes of Jay Hernandez, Cliff Curtis, and Sung Kang.

Jason Ritter comedy Us & Them, which was effectively cancelled last fall with its reduced episode order, has yet to receive a premiere date.

The 13th season of Idol, which will feature the return of Jennifer Lopez as well as Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr., is set for a two-night, four-hour premiere on Wednesday, January 15th and Thursday, January 16th. Last season’s winner Candice Glover has yet to release her debut album. With the season finale of Sleepy Hollow scheduled for Monday, January 20th at 8:00, The Following will begin its uninterrupted 15-week run at 9:00 the same night, as Ryan is forced to deal with the fact that Joe’s reign of terror is far from over.

Following a special airing on Sunday, January 19th at 10:00, where it will be preceded by the NFC Championship game, legal drama Rake makes its time period premiere on Thursday, January 23rd at 9:00, taking the place of Glee while the musical drama goes on hiatus. The series, adapted from an Australian original, stars Greg Kinnear as a self-destructive criminal defense attorney whose personal life gets in the way of his professional aspirations. January 11th will see the premiere of Lucas Bros. Moving Company and Golan the Insatiable on the Animation Domination Hi-Def lineup; the former is about identical twins who run a moving company and remain unbothered by the obstacles that come before them, while the latter tells the story of a mighty godlord whose only friend is a 10-year-old goth girl.

While Enlisted will be premiering on Friday, January 10th at 9:30 as previously announced, Surviving Jack has had its episode order cut from 13 to 8 due to scheduling reasons. The Christopher Meloni-starring comedy is set to debut this spring once the American Idol results show gets cut to 30 minutes. Since Us & Them has been effectively canceled, the fact that every FOX comedy has been scheduled and there have been no changes to the Tuesday lineup means that Dads is likely to get a back nine order, following the back nine for Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Seth MacFarlane’s Dads was already given a blind six-episode commitment earlier this development season, but the other four have

From Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the Emmy Award-winning writers/producers of Parks and Recreation, comes Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a single-camera ensemble comedy about what happens when a detective who doesn’t take anything seriously gets a new “by-the-book” boss who wants him to grow up and respect the badge. The show stars Andre Braugher, Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, and Joe Lo Truglio.

Starring Parker Young, Geoff Stults, and Chris Lowell, Enlisted is a military-set single-camera family comedy that follows three brothers getting to know each other again on a small Florida Army base and the group of misfits who surround them. Based on the award-winning BBC 3 series Gavin and Stacey and starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel, Us & Them is an ensemble single-camera comedy about a young couple, whose greatest obstacles to happiness are their loved ones.

Formerly known as I Suck at Girls, Surviving Jack is an ensemble period comedy based on best-selling author Justin Halpern’s semi-autobiographical book, “I Suck at Girls.” Christopher Meloni stars as a man becoming a dad, as his son is becoming a man, with Claudia Lee, Kevin Hernandez, Tyler Foden, and Connor Buckley also appearing. Dads, the only multi-cam of the bunch, stars Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi as two successful guys – and childhood best friends – whose lives get turned upside down when their fathers (Martin Mull and Peter Riegert) move in.

FOX is set to unveil its 2013-2014 schedule on Monday, May 13th.

Do you think that FOX made the right choices in the comedies it picked up? Should they use two of them to pair with New Girl and The Mindy Project on Tuesdays? If not, how do you think they should all be scheduled?
