On the next episode of Rectify, Daniel bristles when Jon recommends that he not take the plea deal. All he wants is for this entire ordeal, everything with the DA and Hanna”s murder, to be over so that he can move on and 15+ pictures inside of justin-bieber-news.info posted to his Instagram late Friday night (August 1) in Ibiza, Spain. find his way without having to worry about what could be looming in the distance. Daniel wants to experience life, welcoming the chance to leave Paulie upon banishment, and doesn”t mind that he”ll have to admit to something that he didn”t do in order for that to happen. But he might not realize how the plea will impact the rest of his life, be it through his status as a convicted felon or the fact that he won”t be able to return to the home he grew up in, and if somebody doesn”t get through to him before it”s too late, he could make a decision that he”ll ultimately come to regret.

Elsewhere on Rectify, Tawney reconsiders her options, while Teddy seeks a favor and Amantha comes clean to Jon.

The second season finale of Rectify airs tonight at 9:00 on SundanceTV. The show has been renewed for a third season that will premiere sometime in 2015.

On tonight’s episode of Rectify, Amantha lets off some steam in front of Janet, expressing frustration about the lack of clear communication between the two. Amantha has always felt like the black sheep of her family and though she’s been able to deal with that for the most part, it’s during moments like this, where Daniel’s future will be decided based on what he does about the plea deal, where she feels it the most. That loneliness and feeling of disconnect are part of the reason why she’s so frustrated with how everything has turned out for her – why is she continuing to put her life on hold for people who will never understand her and who might not even understand the lengths she’s went to for them? And could Daniel going back to prison for a set amount of time give her the opportunity that she needs to move on with her life and begin living not for someone else but for herself?

Elsewhere on Rectify, Daniel faces a tough decision on whether to take the plea deal, while recent events frustrate Teddy and Ted Sr. looks to protect the family at any cost.

On tonight’s episode of Rectify, Janet confesses to Ted that she lost hope that Daniel would ever get out of prison, admitting that if it weren’t for Amantha, he wouldn’t have even made it this far. It’s a tough pill to swallow, knowing that you didn’t do everything in your power to help your child, and it’s especially tough in Janet’s case considering how close she is to Daniel and how close he is to going back to prison with the plea deal lingering. Had Janet acted quicker or been able to hold it together longer, Daniel might’ve gotten out sooner and been able to live some semblance of a normal life, but the only taste of the outside world he’s gotten has been quite bitter, with the beating, the conflict with Teddy, and his continued struggles at assimilating. Yet, is this really Janet’s fault? Or is it the result of a man locked up while still developing physically and emotionally being set free in the world with not much in the way of guidance?

On tonight’s episode of Rectify, Amantha struggles with the newfound freedom that she has, somewhat regretting her decision to stay in Paulie instead of running back to Atlanta. She doesn’t mind being with Daniel and sticking around town to keep an eye on him, but Amantha thought her life would be a lot bigger than it’s turned out to be; rather than making forward movement in her career path and having the type of adventures she couldn’t have in Paulie, Amantha’s stuck in a dead-end retail job, has no friends to speak of, and doesn’t know if she can ever get out of the spiral her life is undergoing. But as much as she blames herself for letting things get as bad as they are, will some of that resentment trickle into her relationship with Daniel?

Elsewhere on Rectify, Daniel encounters an interesting entrepreneur that pushes him to pursue the excess he was denied while in prison, while Ted has his patience tested and Tawney makes a surprising decision.

On tonight’s episode of Rectify, Amantha makes the decision to stick around Paulie for the time being and continue looking after Daniel, going as far as applying for a low-end retail job and resolving herself to a life lacking stimulation. Part of what’s motivating Amantha to lurk around town is her fear of the repercussions from Daniel’s beating, but the fact remains that she had to turn off certain aspects of herself in order to make progress with Daniel’s appeals. Her life became less about what she wanted or needed and more about what she could do to help her brother and that stunted her development as a person; though Amantha is a determined, headstrong individual with all the potential in the world, she’s never going to be able to go on to bigger and better things rotting away in some dump in Paulie. As much as it might pain her to separate herself from the family, she might have to put her trust in Janet and Jared if she has any hope of building a life for herself that has nothing to do with Daniel.

Elsewhere on Rectify, Daniel heads to Atlanta to seek refuge from the spotlight of Paulie, while Teddy seeks help from an unlikely person in his quest to update the tire store.

Rectify‘s slow burn storytelling and decidedly quiet atmosphere make it an interesting candidate for a summer premiere; getting a show like this away from the glut of spring programming in favor of launching louder shows is a smart idea, but Rectify is a show that doesn’t feel like it should air in the summer and it’ll be telling if the show can gather some ratings momentum with lessened competition or if it finds itself in something of a sophomore slump. Additionally, Sundance has tried to make Thursdays its night for original programming in recent months, having launched both The Red Road and The Returned there, and Rectify‘s ratings could be impacted by the move from Monday nights, where it aired its first season.

Sundance also renewed original non-fiction series The Writers’ Room for a second season of six half-hour episodes that will look into the writers’ rooms of television series in the pop culture zeitgeist. Last season, the series, hosted by Jim Rash (Community), spotlighted the writers of Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Parks and Recreation, and New Girl, while season two will feature the writers’ rooms of Scandal, Pretty Little Liars, Sons of Anarchy, House of Cards, and The Good Wife. Season two will feature a special episode about the growing trend of comic book and graphic novel adaptations in TV.

The brief episode order won’t be a detriment to renewal for The Red Road, as Rectify were renewed for a second season after its own six-episode first season, especially if the show receives a healthy amount of critical support. The time slot, the same as the one The Returned had, might not be ideal due to the glut of programming on Thursdays, but with football gone and broadcast generally weak in the hour, something like The Red Road could find a strong enough foothold to secure a second season.

The Red Road stars Martin Henderson (Off the Map) as Sheriff Martin Henderson, in charge of policing two clashing communities; Julianne Nicholson (Boardwalk Empire, Masters of Sex) as Martin’s wife Jean; Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as ex-con Philip Kopus; Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan) as unpredictable drug dealer Jack Kopus; and Allie Gonino (The Lying Game) as the daughter of a local cop.
