“Psych has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy,” said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network, in a statement. “The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series’ incredible run. And while the series will wrap in March somehow I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Shawn and Gus.”

Over the course of the show’s run, there’s been a Psych musical and college tour, while the series has been to Comic-Con five times and paid tribute to the likes of Clue and Twin Peaks in episodic homages. The series, which stars James Roday as a faux psychic detective and Dule Hill as his best friend, was also one of cable’s top five Wednesday series in 2013 in several demographics and attracted prominent guest stars for its eighth and final season, including Loretta Devine, Ray Wise, Bruce Campbell, Anthony Michael Hall, and Phylicia Rashad. Past guest stars have included William Shatner, Jane Lynch, Tony Hale, Christina Baranski, and Judd Nelson.

Psych returns for its final five episodes Wednesday, February 26th at 9:00 on USA. Current season eight episodes, as well as the two-hour Psych musical, are available on Hulu, VOD, iTunes, and the USA website.

The eighth season of Psych is set to premiere Wednesday, January 8th at 9:00 with an episode that finds Gus and Shawn traveling to London and coming face-to-face with Despereaux. Other episodes this season include “A Nightmare on State Street” and a remake of season one episode “Cloudy with a Chance of Murder,” while season eight guest stars include Mira Sorvino, Anthony Michael Hall, and Phylicia Rashad. Season five of White Collar returns from hiatus on Thursday, January 9th at 9:00 with four new episodes. While Neal continues to be blackmailed by Curtis Hagen, he, Rebecca, and Mozzie get closer to cracking the Mosconi Codex and a dangerous secret gets revealed.

The third season of legal drama Suits returns Thursday, March 6th at 9:00 with the firm’s future in doubt after the murder trial and Louis threatening to expose Mike. Guest stars will include Zeljko Ivanek, Jamey Sheridan, Damon Gupton, and Patrick Fischler. Sirens premieres Thursday, March 6th at 10:00 with back-to-back episodes. The series follows three Chicago EMTs (sports nut Johnny, outspoken Hank, and new recruit Brian) as they balance their unruly personal lives with successful professional lives. Additionally, they often intersect with Theresa, a Chicago PD officer who’s also Johnny’s ex-girlfriend. Guest stars for the 10-episode first season include Jean Smart, Loretta Devine, Bill Nunn, Lenny Clarke, Nora Dunn, and John Scurti.

The fifth season of White Collar will premiere Thursday, October 17th and find Neal having to make a deal in order to get Peter off from the murder charges. Following the season premiere will be the final six episodes of the Covert Affairs season, as Annie prepares for an impending showdown with Henry Wilcox. Beginning on Sunday, November 3rd, USA will get further into the reality show genre with It Takes a Choir, which follows choirmaster Gareth Mahone in a journey around the nation looking for some of the best choirs out there. Finally, the two-hour Psych holiday musical special is set to air December 15th; in it, Gus and Shawn have to track down a madman playwright, who escaped from the mental institution he was sentenced to six years ago.

Miss any of the news that came from Comic-Con? TVHackr has compiled every trailer (featuring new footage) and news item that was released during 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, which came to an end yesterday. The post doesn’t include special panel videos, the panels themselves, series highlight reels, or trailers that have already been posted.

There will be two additional new faces joining Arrow this season, as Kevin Alejandro (True Blood) and Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite) are set to play vengeful alderman Sebastian Blood (aka Brother Blood) and Ben Taylor, a claw-wielding assassin otherwise known as the Bronze Tiger, respectively. The latter will also be forming an alliance with China White.

-Amy Acker (Angel) has been promoted to a series regular on Person of Interest, where she’s portrayed Machiavellian cyber-hacker Root in seven episodes. There’ll also be an opportunity for fans to join in the series with the Person of Interest Social Photo Opportunity, which will give the show’s fans on Facebook the ability to submit photos for a chance to become a “person of interest” at some point during season three. Information will be released in the coming weeks on the Person of Interest Facebook page.

-AMC has announced that Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick will be anchoring Talking Bad, its recently announced Breaking Bad aftershow that will air every Sunday at 11:00 beginning August 11th. Like Dead, Talking Bad features Hardwick recapping that night’s Breaking Bad episode, taking questions and comments from viewers, and interviewing those associated with the show (actors, producers) and TV experts alike. The final eight episodes of Breaking Bad will premiere earlier that night at 9:00.

-A balloon of Finn and Jake from Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time will fly in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 28th. It marks the first time the Emmy nominated animated series will be featured.

–Per TVLine, Supernatural executive producer Bob Singer confirmed that a spin-off of the show is in the works. Reportedly to be centered on a new character via a backdoor pilot later in the season, the series is said to be more “citified” than its mothership. The ninth season of Supernatural is set to premiere Tuesday, October 15th at 9:00.

–Revolution has added Stephen Collins (7th Heaven) to its cast for the second season. The veteran actor will be playing Rachel’s father, according to TV Guide.

-A Simpsons/Family Guy crossover will be airing in the fall of 2014, according to FOX. “The Simpsons Guy” finds the Griffins ending up in Springfield and being fully embraced by the Simpson family. Also in Family Guy news, the show is having a contest for those who think they have the best Stewie Griffin impression around. Fans can send in their best Stewie on the I am Stewie section of FamilyGuy.com, with the winner (selected by producers) having their voice featured in the upcoming season premiere and earning a three-day/two-night trip for two to attend Family Guy Live at the Just4Laughs Festival in Toronto, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.

-As reported by Entertainment Weekly, guest stars for the upcoming season of Family Guy include Peter Dinklage, Liam Neeson, Dennis Farina, Ashton Kutcher, Conan O’Brien, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Daniels, Jon Cryer, and Adam Levine, while American Dad will be seeing the likes of Mariah Carey, Ellie Kemper, Zooey Deschanel, Mark Cuban, Stanley Tucci, Olivia Wilde, Alison Brie, Sinbad, Mae Whitman, T.J. Miller, Alan Thicke, and Pete Holmes.

–Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has cast Lost alum Naveen Andrews as Jafar, the evil Royal Vizier of Agrabah first seen in Aladdin, according to TV Guide.

-USA has revealed the winner of the Psych fan-voted storyline contest. The network gave the show’s fanbase the chance to decide on a storyline for an upcoming season eight episode and the winner turned out to be “A Nightmare on State Street,” an episode that will feature Gus in dream therapy to understand the cause of his recent night terrors. Also announced was a two-hour musical episode, set to air Sunday, December 15th; Gus and Shawn will have to track down a playwright deemed criminally insane and eventually get led back to someone from Shawn’s past.

-Mario Lopez will be returning for the third season of The X Factor, slated to premiere this fall. His season two co-host Khloe Kardashian-Odom, meanwhile, has gone the way of Steve Jones and won’t be returning.

-History’s Bonnie & Clyde miniseries has started production in Baton Rouge. Starring Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Holliday Grainger (The Borgias), the event tells the story of intuitive criminal Clyde Barrow, fame hungry Bonnie Parker and the rest of the notorious Barrow Gang as they swept through the Central United States committing small-time robberies and daring bank heists and will be simulcast on History and Lifetime later this year.

-Comedy Central has officially canceled Futurama ahead of its June 19th summer premiere date. The series finale is set for September 4th and will cap off a summer season with guest stars ranging from Larry Bird and Burt Ward to Sarah Silverman and George Takei. Producers are reportedly exploring other options to keep the series alive.

-Ahead of Lost Girl‘s third season finale tonight, Syfy has launched Lost Girl: The Game, a free mobile gaming app available for download on iOS and Android devices. The game, written by the show’s writers, allows players to create a customized Fae character that they can use to venture through the world of Lost Girl, including creating their own avatars, embarking on missions and uncovering hidden objects, in order to score points and unlock levels.

-USA has ordered five additional Psych scripts, which would bring the eighth season total to 13. However, script orders don’t always translate to episode orders, though the sleuth dramedy has been performing very well since its winter premiere.

-At their upfront presentation today, E! unveiled an extensive programming slate of both scripted and unscripted content. Set to premiere this year are The Wanted Life, a docuseries about British boy band The Wanted (June 2nd); Total Divas, following a group of WWE divas outside the ring (July 28th); Pop Innovators, an interview show that celebrates the most influential names in pop culture – in their own words; The Soup Investigates, a spinoff of The Soup that finds Joel McHale and a series of reporters delving into various pop culture mysteries; Hello Ross, an interactive talk show led by Ross Mathews; and The Trend, featuring a team of experts talking all things design, fashion, and beauty.

Among the subjects for unscripted programming are wine families of Sonoma; female poker players; real estate agents; and paparazzi. Scripted development includes Laurel Canyon, a drama from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage that centers on a young woman returning to her dysfunctional family in Laurel Canyon with her son after hearing her rock-star legend father has passed away; Songbyrd, about a young songwriter with an unsatisfactory love life and featuring the songs and experience of prolific songwriter Diane Warren; Expectations, a soap about a morally corrupt family in the diamond business; Dirty/Pretty, a dark comedy about a blue collar guy from south Boston who gets scouted to be a model in Miami; and Fortunate Son, following a society golden boy turned criminal informant.

Considering the extremely strong competition among cable networks over the last decade, I’d consider that a very considerable achievement. Among the shows that helped them reach that milestone were Suits, which was the number 1 scripted cable program on Thursday nights and Psych, leading the ever-growing social media market as the show with the most mentions on Wednesday nights.

There wasn’t a lot of scripted competition for Suits on Thursdays, but maintaining an average 5.5 million total viewers and about 2 million in their 25-54 demographic is nothing to sneeze about, especially when network television gives them a run for the money with favorites such as Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Person of Interest, Glee, Elementary, and The Vampire Diaries. Did you notice that Suits falls into no particular time zone? That’s because as a cable show, depending upon your time zone, it could go up against a different favorite show if you live in New York or Colorado. The same goes for CW shows, in case you were unaware.

Psych  is currently in its seventh, and likely second-to-last, season, yet still gained about 17% more viewers comparable to its 2012 numbers. If the cast wasn’t ready to move on, you’d have to wonder how long USA Network would let Psych rule the airwaves on Wednesdays. Depending upon where you live, Psych could be up against such powerhouses as Arrow, Supernatural, Modern Family, Nashville, CSI, Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds and Chicago Fire. TNT’s scripted cable drama Southland doesn’t see nearly the same numbers that Psych gets on Wednesdays.

WWE Monday Night Raw slams the rating on Monday nights and a duo of successful repeats, NCIS and Law and Order: SVU deliver outstanding numbers for the network.
