Among the issues addressed in the clip are DiDi’s attitude, cleanliness around the ward, and Dawn’s increasingly complicated relationship with Patsy, who she refuses to get over or let out of her grasp.

Based on the British series of the same name and adapted for American television by Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer (Big Love), Getting On follows the doctors and nurses at a Long Beach extended care facility. Not only must they acclimate themselves to an environment that is a constant reminder of their own mortality, but they must try to make the most with what little resources they have, as the unit is understaffed and filled with archaic medical equipment that serves no purpose other than taking up space. The series stars three-time Emmy winner Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne), Alex Borstein (Family Guy), Niecy Nash (The Soul Man), and Mel Rodriguez (Enlisted).

The second season of Getting On is slated to premiere Sunday, November 9th at 10:30 on HBO, where it will follow the final season premiere of The Newsroom and the return of The Comeback.

Will you be watching the second season of Getting On? How do you think Dawn’s relationship with Patsy will develop throughout the course of season two? Is Jenna going to accept her position at the hospital after what happened with her most recent job opportunity?

At 9:00 will be the six-episode final season of The Newsroom, which ended its second season with the team from ACN staying and Will getting engaged to Mac on Election Night. There’s no word yet on what events from recent news cycles will be included in the third season of The Newsroom or whether the show will lean as heavily on that device, seeing as how they have a shorter episode order.

Following at 10:00 is the eight-episode second season of The Comeback, which takes place about a decade after the events of the show’s first and only previous season. Former TV it girl Valerie Cherish thinks that she’s figured everything out, but in reality, she’s as clueless about fame, celebrity, and the entertainment industry as she ever was. The acclaimed comedy, which gave Lisa Kudrow an Emmy nomination in 2006, will be returning much of its principal cast.

Closing the night at 10:30 is critically praised medical comedy Getting On, which stars Alex Borstein (MADtv), Niecy Nash (The Soul Man), and Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne) as workers in the geriatric wing of a Long Beach Hospital. The show premiered this past November and built an audience mostly by word-of-mouth, as it aired with a one-off Chris Lilley comedy and had one of HBO’s lowest rated dramas as the night’s lead-in. With the high profile return of The Comeback and the final season of a divisive drama acting as its lead-in, the show now has a better chance at being sampled.

You can check out teasers for The Newsroom, The Comeback, and Getting On below.

Are you disappointed that The Newsroom is getting such a short final season? Where do you think Valerie Cherish is after all these years? Will airing with some support allow Getting On to get sampled?

It’s no surprise that the two will be premiering in late fall, considering that the former made its debut last November and that Boardwalk Empire and The Newsroom will be completed by November, though a concrete premiere date will be released later this year.

Getting On, from creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer (Big Love), follows the goings on at Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit, a wing in a Long Beach hospital dedicated to taking care of older patients. Starring Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne), Alex Borstein (Family Guy), and Niecy Nash (The Soul Man), season two of the series will find Jenna on a research binge, Didi desperate for a raise, and Dawn continuing to try and land Patsy, though the latter is more concerned with his new lean, green program for the wing.

Created by Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and Lisa Kudrow (Friends), The Comeback debuted in 2005 to critical acclaim and low ratings, the latter of which caused its cancellation after just one season. The story of former it girl Valerie Cherish (Kudrow) attempting to recapture the fame that has eluded her for years, The Comeback was brought back due to strong HBO Go numbers and the show’s reputation as a daring, inventive comedy that predated the unstructured reality craze. Season two finds Valerie thinking that she has it all figured out when, in actuality, she’s just as lost as ever.

Will you be watching the second season of Getting On? Do you think The Comeback can recapture the magic of its first season? What kind of year do you think HBO is having creatively?

The series, a modest performer in the ratings when it premiered this past November, was well-received by critics and garnered enough positive word-of-mouth to earn itself the renewal, which was contingent on budgetary negotiations going through.

There”s no word yet on when Getting On will premiere its second season, though with True Blood and Boardwalk Empire both possibly having abbreviated final seasons, there”s a chance that we”ll be seeing Getting On come late fall once again. Getting On being renewed is the latest in a string of moves made by HBO, which included the cancellation of Hello Ladies and Family Tree and the pickup of comedies The Brink and Ballers. The network is trying to broaden its comedic audience, atoledo as its comedies tend to bring in low live ratings that are offset by critical love, and will look to continue doing so when its next original comedy, Mike Judge”s Silicon Valley, premieres this coming spring.

Aside from getting a boost from critics and its own creative direction, Getting On was helped by the state of HBO at the moment, as Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, The Newsroom, and Treme will all end within a one-year time period. Couple that with the previously mentioned comedy turnover and there”s a lot of room up for grabs at HBO, so they knew they could afford something smaller, quieter, and more left of center with all the big swings that are yet to come. The network has yet to renew its two newest series in crime drama True Detective and gay-themed dramedy Looking, though polarizing comedy Girls received a fourth season order last month at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Are you happy that Getting On was renewed for another season? Would you like to see the show put it another time of the year, one that could garner it more recognition and sampling? What do you think will happen during the show”s second season?

Though both series were fairly well-received and had ratings that were considered okay for their respective price points, the co-production agreement between the BBC and HBO was complicated enough to contribute to HBO’s decision not to move forward with the project, while Hello Ladies is set to wrap with one final episode meant to tie together its storyline, akin to how Merchant’s Life’s Too Short concluded in 2013.

The other HBO freshman comedy with its renewal hanging in the eye (Ja’mie: Private School Girl was designed as a one-off) is Getting On, a medical comedy that gained buzz throughout its six-episode first season that concluded this past December. Renewal is likely for the project, an adaptation of the acclaimed British series of the same name, pending the sorting out of budget issues; a concrete decision on the fate of the show should come in the coming months. The most recent HBO comedy debut, gay-themed Looking, came in soft in the ratings for its series premiere, but reportedly, the network is encouraged by the amount of attention it’s received. Sometimes, HBO series survive due to the strength of their audience engagement and how much media coverage they receive, so couple that with Looking doubling its live ratings with its first repeat and the show isn’t as dead as the media reports would have you think.

This isn’t the first time that HBO has mass announced its comedy renewals, as Enlightened emerged as the lone survivor of the previous HBO massacre that claimed the lives of Hung, Bored to Death, and How to Live in America. The network is also coming off a past few months that have seen the cancellation/conclusion of every drama bar Game of Thrones, as Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom, and True Blood will have their final seasons this year and Treme finished its quiet four season run in December. However, the network has already started reloading with sturdy True Detective, Looking, upcoming tech comedy Silicon Valley, and summer genre series The Leftovers, while Girls has already been renewed for a fourth season.

Will you miss Hello Ladies or Family Tree? How would you like to see Hello Ladies wrap up? What would a second season of Getting On look like?

No matter the staff’s levels of experience or empathy, investing in people only to watch them either fade away or suffer can weigh heavily, making that type of ward only for the faint of heart and steel of nerve. But geriatrics isn’t just hard on those who have to interact with every patient; they’re also hard on those whose loved ones are staying on the ward, especially patients whose health has left them a bit unstable. Already on pins and needles waiting for news, the slightest change in health can either give them hope for the future – or crush any possibility of a future at all.

On the season finale of Getting On, Phyllis gets the runaround regarding her mother’s situation, which has begun vacillating between better and worse, depending on when you ask the staff at Billy Barnes. Although she doesn’t want to have to say goodbye to her mother, Phyllis needs to have concrete word about her condition in order to begin the grieving process and allow herself to let go of the possibility of her getting better. Now, though, she’s stuck in some kind of strange health care limbo, where she feels everything and nothing about where her mother is at and what’s going on; she can’t let herself get down due to the chance of her mother pulling out of this, but if she lets herself get too hopeful, she might be setting herself up for bigger disappointment when things don’t work out the way she wants them.

Elsewhere on Getting On, Jenna tries to leverage concessions from Dr. Stickley, while an equipment malfunction injures a patient and staff perform their annual concert for the ward.

The season finale of Getting On is set to air Sunday at 10:00 on HBO.

Is Phyllis’ mother going to make it through the season finale of Getting On? Will Jenna decide to stay at Billy Barnes? How will Dawn and Patsy be around one another after what happened during the most recent episode?

The two may have already hooked up and the professional boundaries that separate them could ultimately prove to be too much to deal with, but she still has the desire to go out on dates with Patsy and get to know the man he is away from work. Dawn wants something to look forward to and someone to be a consistent, positive presence in her life and she’s willing to overlook the pitfalls associated with dating a co-worker in exchange for the chance of really connecting with Patsy and finding the right man who has been eluding her all along.

On the next episode of Getting On, an evening with Patsy turns south fairly quickly and Dawn is left tipsy and all dressed up with nowhere to go in the lounge. To occupy herself and keep from going home and getting down on the situation, she spends her time in the ward looking for stopgap comforts, only to quickly become a distraction to those working that night. With DiDi still needing evidence of Patsy’s heterosexuality and Dawn not being in the right mind, there’s a chance that the latter will be spilling her guts about everything going on with her fledgling inter-office relationship, possibly to the point of providing the evidence for DiDi herself, not thinking that her new friend would turn on Patsy like that. However, DiDi must do anything she can to keep her position at the hospital and avoid having to take the 18-hour course required in offenses like this, so if it means having a tiff with Dawn and getting Patsy in some trouble, then she’s okay with that.

Elsewhere on Getting On, DiDi’s serene nightshift gets interrupted by several visitors, while Jenna dreams of a fresh start in Cleveland and an elderly tourist shows off her gymnastics skills.

Getting On airs Sundays at 10:00 on HBO.

Could this be the end of Dawn’s attraction to/infatuation toward Patsy? How will DiDi handle the interruptions during her nightshift? Is Jenna ever going to escape the clutches of Billy Barnes?

Being forced into Geriatrics has forced her to deal with nurses who she doesn’t get along with while having the research she’s slaved over for years threatened to be put on the backburner and removing her enough from Paul to where he’s already pouncing on the hospital’s new hires. But the biggest problem with her time at Billy Barnes, and what will ultimately be the aspect of her time in the ward that she’ll push back against the most, is Patsy’s new Make Yourself Happy campaign, which she previously described as Mickey Mouse and cruise ship.

On the next episode of Getting On, Jenna has decided to implement a geriatrics exercise program as a way of upsetting Patsy, who has recently introduced a live pianist and fountain to the ward. If she can’t get herself out of Billy Barnes just yet, she feels like her only other option is to work Nurse De La Serda’s nerves until he backs off of her, ends the campaign, and/or asks to be transferred to another ward. While Dr. James knows she can control Dawn and DiDi, Patsy has enough power to where he could buck under her rule and cause real damage around the ward, so in order to assert her authority and break him of the idea of testing her, she has to show him that he can’t win against her. The exercise program will, at the very least, be good for entertainment value since Patsy has already proven himself to be high-strung, so even if it doesn’t work out in terms of breaking his spirit, Dr. James can at least get a laugh out of the situation, something that can be sorely needed in the Geriatrics ward.

Elsewhere on Getting On, DiDi exposes Patsy’s relationship with Dawn to her union rep as proof that her comment wasn’t serious, while the staff investigates a homeless woman dumped in the ward and Dawn wins the grand prize in a charity raffle.

Getting On airs Sundays at 10:00 on HBO.

Will Jenna or Patsy gain the upper-hand in their relationship during this episode? Is DiDi’s friendship with Dawn going to be the same after the latter’s encounter with Patsy gets exposed? Should Jenna free herself from the confines of Billy Barnes and try to find a job that she really likes?

By the recent upheaval with Beverly leaving and Jenna being moved over on a permanent basis, he knew that there would be a lot of work to do to get the facility up to where it needed to be, but there wasn”t anything that encouraging for him to hang his hat on. Which made DiDi”s remark hit all that much harder.

On tonight”s episode of Getting On, Patsy has filed a grievance against DiDi due to the homophobic remark that she made to him in his office. However, when she made the remark, she casino online wasn”t doing it maliciously and didn”t conjure up the phrase herself; she was repeating something that Varla had said and using it in the way she used the insult that Varla lobbed against her earlier in the day. DiDi thought that she could share a laugh with Patsy over the insanity of their day and the vulgarity of their most problematic patient, but just hearing that type of language out of someone that he doesn”t know, especially at the end of a day he would rather forget, was enough to get Patsy to file the grievance and take serious offense with DiDi. She might have just started working at Billy Barnes, but if she”s ruled against at the hearing over the remark, DiDi will be joining Beverly in leaving the facility for good.

Elsewhere on Getting On, Birdy gets caught in a compromising position with a gentleman caller, while Patsy orders a ward-wide cleaning, Dr. James skips an important orientation, and Dawn learns that her evaluation isn”t going away anytime soon.

Getting On airs tonight at 10:00 on HBO.

How will the nurses handle Birdy”s situation with her significant other? What type of trouble will Dr. James find herself in for skipping the orientation? Are Patsy and DiDi going to be able to work out their issues from the latter”s remark?

While she may dream of medical glory, fancy equipment in her wards, and cooperative nurses who fall in line when asked, she lives in relative anonymity in Long Beach, forced to deal with dated technology, nurses she doesn’t get along with, and the duties that other members of the hospital don’t want to do. It’s an existence that only brings down the morale at Billy Barnes, since James spreads the negativity that she harbors within every time she enters the facility and brings tension to other staff members that detrimentally impacts their ability to do their jobs. But coming up on Getting On, Jenna makes a play at using her stool research to get herself out of Long Beach and into a hospital that she doesn’t think is beneath her, something that would benefit Billy Barnes as a whole. Is there a chance she fulfills her dream of being recognized for the research she’s been doing?

Listed below are the dates, titles, descriptions, and repeat information for the rest of Getting On‘s first season.

Sunday, December 1st – “If You’re Going to San Francisco”
In the wake of Nurse Raymes’ (Telma Hopkins) departure, Patsy De La Serda (Mel Rodriguez), a new (male) supervising nurse, joins the Billy Barnes staff with a customer-centric, “cruise-line based” agenda that he’s convinced will improve ward ratings. Patsy soon learns that managing patients – especially highly uncooperative and feisty ones like Varla (June Squibb) – isn’t necessarily improved through customer-service metrics. Nurse Dawn (Alex Borstein) and Patsy get off on the wrong foot, but it’s soon evident that there is a special spark between them. Donna (Anne Jefferys), a more docile patient, wins DiDi’s (Niecy Nash) affections and displays impressive karaoke skills.
Other HBO playdates: Dec. 1 (midnight), 2 (11:55 p.m.), 4 (midnight), 5 (8:00 p.m.), 6 (10:30 p.m.) and 11 (11:30 p.m.)
HBO2 playdates: Dec. 2 (9:30 p.m.), 7 (9:00 p.m.) and 8 (9:05 a.m.)

Sunday, December 8th – “Make Someone Happy”
DiDi ends up in “conflict resolution” after Patsy files a grievance against her for inappropriate remarks. Dawn learns that intimacy with a co-worker is no guarantee of evaluation immunity. Dr. James (Laurie Metcalf) and Patsy go head-to-head when she decides to skip the “Make Someone Happy” orientation to present her stool research at a Cleveland medical convention.
