The move doesn’t come as a surprise considering the negative buzz and poor ratings for Utopia. After posting mediocre numbers in a special Sunday preview, the series has floundered on both Tuesdays and Fridays, putting FOX in fourth place in the time slot and possibly harming comedies New Girl and The Mindy Project. This way, the show can concentrate its audience and FOX doesn’t have to worry about falling to fifth place this coming Tuesday when The CW’s likely potent Flash/Supernatural lineup premieres.

The first new fall series to premiere this season, Utopia becomes the first new fall show to be pulled, though it might be able to avoid becoming the first outright cancellation if it can post some decent Friday numbers. The show recently instituted a voting-out process designed to rid itself of some of the characters that drew negative buzz upon the show’s initial airings.

Created by Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious 6), Gang Related followed the Gang Task Force of the Los Angeles Police Department and explored the ties that one member of the team had to a local gang. The series starred the likes of Emmy winner Terry O’Quinn (Lost) as Sam Chapel, head of the Task Force; Ramon Rodriguez (The Wire) as Ryan Lopez, a LAPD detective who, as a child, was taken in by members of a dangerous gang after the death of his father; Sung Kang (Monk) as FBI Agent Tae Kim; RZA (Californication) as DEA Agent Cassius Green; and Jay Hernandez (Nashville) as investment banker Daniel Acosta, Ryan’s childhood best friend.

With Gang Related‘s cancellation, only Sleepy Hollow remains standing from FOX’s freshman drama class of 2013-2014, which also included Almost Human and Rake. This season, FOX has character procedural Backstrom, hip-hop drama Empire, and mystery Wayward Pines as possible candidates for a summer slot, though it’s not yet confirmed that the network will want to replace Gang Related with another scripted project.

It’s finally official – Enlisted will not be returning to the Fox lineup.

The network has confirmed the cancellation of the cult-favorite comedy, a move long seen coming – unfortunately – by many.  The Friday night laugher grew a loyal audience of fans who have been anxiously awaiting for the show to be given a second chance – and decent time slot.  Sadly, it won’t be happening.

Fox has also cancelled Seth MacFarlane’s Dads.  Slightly surprising, as despite poor critical reception the show has been seen as likely to be renewed by the net that has stood by the show since its all-around offensive pilot episode.

Also cancelled is Surviving Jack, single-camera sitcom based on author Justin Halpern’s autobiographical book, “I Suck at Girls”, starring Christopher Meloni.

These cancellations leave Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Fox’s only surviving freshman comedy this season.

The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that Fox has pulled the plug on Greg Kinnear-starrer Rake.

FOX has made a majority of its decisions on its 2013-2014 schedule, with the fate of comedies Surviving Jack and Dads still to be decided. While the former’s situation is cloudy, the latter’s renewal chances have apparently improved recently, putting its chance at renewal much higher than they were when it had its episode order cut and finished its season on a down note. In addition to already ordered Backstrom, Hieroglyph, and Gotham, FOX has two dramas currently in development: Red Band Society, about a group of teenagers living in a hospital, and Empire, a sprawling look at the world of hip hop music.

Almost Human starred Karl Urban (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) as John Kennex, a detective who loses his leg and becomes outfitted with a synthetic limb. Once he awakens after a 17-month coma, he realizes that he has to work with Dorian (Michael Ealy), a robot, and slowly, the two find that they have more common ground than they initially thought. In addition to Ealy and Urban, the series starred Minka Kelly, Lili Taylor, Michael Irby, and Mackenzie Crook.

FOX will reveal its 2014 schedule Monday, May 12th.

The most anticipated night of the television season is finally here! On the second part of the two-night season finale, the Top 13 reunite on the stage one last time before host Ryan Seacrest reveals the newest American Idol.

 Thursday, May 1
HELL’S KITCHEN (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) – “13 Chefs Compete”
Chef Ramsay announces that HELL’S KITCHEN will be hosting a 160th anniversary party for the Phi Mu sorority, so the Red and Blue teams are tasked to prepare a southern-inspired menu for the sorority’s social committee. The team with the most impressive dishes earns an elaborate trip to Las Vegas, while the losing team stays behind to transform the restaurant for the party. Later, Chef Ramsay puts the pressure on the chefs to execute a flawless dinner service, but each of the teams struggles to communicate with each other, delaying the dinner service.

AMERICAN IDOL XIII (9:00-9:30 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) – “1 of 5 Voted Off”
In another nail-biting LIVE results show, the finalist who receives the fewest votes will be eliminated from the race for the title.

SURVIVING JACK (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) – “She Drives Me Crazy”
In an effort to have Rachel (Claudia Lee) more engaged in school and take her future seriously, Jack (Christopher Meloni) gets her a spot on the wrestling team, much to the chagrin of the wrestling coach (guest star Neil Flynn, “The Middle”). Also, Joanne realizes that Frankie is now too embarrassed to be seen with her during their annual mother-son trip.

Thursday, May 8
HELL’S KITCHEN (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) – “12 Chefs Compete”
In the ultimate adaptability challenge, the remaining contestants are given 30 minutes to shine and create entrées made up of the surprise ingredients hidden under four domes. Chef Ramsay and VIP guest judge Chef Michael Cimarusti will determine which team will go down the coast for a scenic lunch and volleyball lesson with Kerri Walsh Jennings and which team will stay behind to do all the chores for the servers at HELL’S KITCHEN. Later, tensions rise as Chef Ramsay announces it is time for one-on-one performance evaluations, and then he decides to do something never done before in the history of HELL’S KITCHEN.

The tension mounts, as another finalist is sent home in an all-new LIVE results show.

SURVIVING JACK (9:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) – “Parents Just Don’t Understand”—Season Finale
Jack and Joanne are at odds with each other when both kids betray their trust – Frankie has his first taste of alcohol at a varsity baseball party, and Rachel wants to go on birth control.

Thursday, May 15
HELL’S KITCHEN (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) – “11 Chefs Compete”
In the continuation of an emotional elimination round, Chef Ramsay takes the remaining contestants on a surprise field trip to a local gastropub. Later, during dinner service, the two teams must prepare meals inspired by Chef Ramsay’s cuisine. While one team rules the kitchen, the other struggles with communication, resulting in yet another dramatic elimination.

It’s the end of the line for another finalist, who is sent home in an all-new LIVE results show.

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) – “Mangia Mangia, Part 1/Mangia Mangia, Part 2”
Chef Ramsay heads to Woodland Park, CO, where he is tasked with saving Mangia Mangia, an Italian joint with an identity crisis. But the atmosphere, food and service prove to be the least of its problems, as tensions flare and the morale among owner Julie and her staff is at an all-time low.

Friday, May 2
KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) – “Zayna Flaming Grill, Part 1/Zayna Flaming Grill, Part 2”
Chef Ramsay travels to Redondo Beach, CA, to visit Zayna Flaming Grill, a Mediterranean restaurant owned and operated by aunt-and-niece duo Faye and Brenda. Faye believes she has the weight of the entire restaurant on her shoulders, while Brenda does not feel she is treated as an equal in the partnership. With tensions rising, the food not up to standards and everyone playing the blame game, Chef Ramsay is faced with one of the stickiest situations he’s ever encountered.

As far as new shows, FOX has Riot, which features celebrities and comedians facing song, dance, and sketch challenges while navigating a stage titled at a 22-degree angle, on May 13th; scripted drama Gang Related, which stars the likes of Terry O’Quinn and Ramon Rodriguez, on Thursday, May 22nd; and I Wanna Marry “Harry,“ a reality series featuring 12 women who think they’ve been selected for a dating show with Prince Harry as the ultimate prize, on Tuesday, May 27th.

However, it’s not all good news, as finale dates for both Rake and Enlisted have yet to be confirmed, not a positive sign for their future on the network. While Hell’s Kitchen will air into the summer, its finale date also currently unknown, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to conclude its first season on March 25th and the one-hour series finale of Raising Hope will premiere Friday, April 4th.

FOX will unveil its fall 2014 schedule on Monday, May 12th.
