Thus far in its fourth season, Teen Wolf has been averaging around 1.7 million viewers, keeping it as the cornerstone of the MTV scripted programming boom that it began. Though the network took a while to gain its footing after the surprise success of Teen Wolf and Awkward, resulting in a string of one-season wonders and doubts about whether scripted content could be viable on MTV, there’s been some forward movement with the success of faux lesbian comedy Faking It and kidnapping drama Finding Carter. Next in line for MTV are comedy Happyland, which takes place at an amusement park, stars Bianca Santos (The Fosters), and premieres this fall; and Shannara, a straight-to-series adaptation of the fantasy novel series by Terry Brooks.

From Stiles feeling like he’s losing his mind to Allison hallucinating about Aunt Kate, from Lydia and Isaac encountering masked demons to a dark spirit that draws its power from pain lurking in the shadows, this season of Teen Wolf will expand the evils that those in Beacon Hills thought possible and put everyone who knows of the supernatural presence in town in greater danger than they’ve been before. While Scott and company have been able to make it through past threats against their safety, they’ve never had to deal with anything like this upcoming onslaught of villains and will have to learn quickly how to contain them before it’s too late.

The second half of Teen Wolf‘s third season is set to premiere Monday, January 6th at 10:00 on MTV, with new after show Wolf Watch to air at 11:00. The series was renewed for a fourth season, likely to premiere summer 2014, this past October.

The premiere date announcement came during the show’s fourth consecutive visit to Comic-Con, which also wrought a trailer for the next five episodes in Scott McCall’s journey from ordinary teenage boy to Alpha wolf. The 90-second clip highlights just how strong the show can be in presenting horror images and indicates that a showdown between Scott and Deucalion is imminent, but as far as actual plot points go, there’s not much that can be gleaned from the trailer. Scott’s mom gets taken by Deucalion and there’s a not-surprising-yet-also-kind-of-surprising kiss between two series regulars; otherwise, it’s car chases, shirtlessness, teeth baring, cryptic words, and screaming, with Scott being left without a plan regarding how to take Deucalion out for good. With the help of Dr. Deaton, Miss Morrell, and the team he has behind him, can Scott figure out how to triumph over Deucalion and embrace his status as an Alpha?

Teen Wolf airs Mondays at 10:00 on MTV. On the next episode, Scott, Allison, and Stiles seek answers from two conflicting narrators and discover a secret about the color of a werewolf’s eyes. You can check out a sneak peek here.

In addition to the release of the trailer, the network announced a 12-hour Teen Wolf marathon, set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3rd and hosted by Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Roden and Daniel Sharman. They’ll be on hand to offer insights about episodes, answer fan questions and give behind-the-scenes tidbits

As previously announced, season three will also feature several new faces in Beacon Hills, including: Ethan and Aiden as twin Alpha werewolves and played by Charlie and Max Carver; Gideon Emery as Deucalion, leader of the Alpha werewolves; Kali, an Alpha werewolf played by Felisha Terrell; Brian Patrick Wade as Ennis, an Alpha werewolf who is a force of pure brutality; and Cora, a tough 17-year-old, who has ties to the Beacon Hills werewolf line, played by Adelaide Kane.

The third season of Teen Wolf premieres Monday, June 3rd at 10:00 on MTV. Season two of the show will be released on DVD tomorrow.

The show was previously used as a lead-out for the MTV Movie Awards, but with strong ratings last season and the ceremony being moved up two months, it will be on its own for the first time. With the first half of the season staying put in June, the second half of the expanded season will likely air sometime in early 2014 in a move akin to the ABC Family scheduling model.

Yet to be announced is a premiere date for MTV’s other scripted hit, critically acclaimed high school comedy Awkward. It’ll be having the same airing pattern as Teen Wolf, as it received an extended third season order, as well.

The third season of Teen Wolf finds Scott, Stiles, Lydia, and Allison beginning their junior year of high school. While their peers may be worried about extracurricular activities, GPA, and where they’re going to college, they’re more concerned about the alpha pack that has arrived in Beacon Hills intent on bringing Derek into their fold. Joining the cast this season are Ethan and Aiden as twin Alpha werewolves and played by Charlie and Max Carver; Gideon Emery as Deucalion, leader of the Alpha werewolves; Kali, an Alpha werewolf played by Felisha Terrell and Cora, a tough 17-year-old, who has ties to the Beacon Hills werewolf line, played by Adelaide Kane.
