For their part, The CW commenced with some blood-letting today, canceling two freshman dramas and one sophomore dramedy.

First to meet the blade is The Carrie Diaries, a prequel of sorts to the HBO series Sex and the City. Season one averaged a meager 0.5 rating, so it was widely seen as a bit of a shock that Diaries even squeaked out a season two renewal at all. Things went nowhere but down the second time out, with Diaries’ average rating falling to a 0.3.

Next up on the chopping block is sci-fi romance Star-Crossed, which has seemed destined for cancellation almost since the beginning. Star-Crossed premiered to decidedly mixed reviews and an 0.5 rating, and quickly bottomed out at a 0.3, where it has remained ever since. The CW was likely hoping Star-Crossed would be their Roswell, but alas, it was not to be.

Finally, the award for most surprising cancellation of the day goes to The Tomorrow People. A modern-day remake of a 1970s British series, Tomorrow follows a group of young adults that find themselves persecuted due to their naturally evolved psychic powers.

Starring Robbie Amell (brother of Arrow star Stephen Amell), Tomorrow picked up a passionate fanbase, and its ratings for the first half of its run really weren’t too bad. Unfortunately, things eventually started to crater, and an ill-fated move to Mondays after Star-Crossed did the show no favors. Sadly, these particular people won’t live to see tomorrow.

Did The CW make the right call? Or should one or more of The Carrie Diaries, Star-Crossed, and The Tomorrow People have gotten picked up for another season? Let us know in the comments.

The next stage of human evolution, the Tomorrow People are embroiled in a shadow war that has turned into a zero-sum game, a constant back-and-forth with Ultra that has left neither side with a decisive advantage in quite some time, if ever. The state of their race is on the line each and every day and in order for them to compete with the technology and resources at Ultra’s disposal, they’re going to have to close ranks as tightly as they can and hope that they have enough firepower and quick thinking to withstand any coming barrage from the genetic cleansing organization.

On tonight’s episode of The Tomorrow People, the Tomorrow People are faced with a threat from Julian, who has resurfaced after suffering a defeat at the hands of Cara, the person he holds responsible for the death of his former love. After losing his gang and getting humiliated by someone he clearly views as inferior to himself, Julian has decided to strike a deal with Ultra and Jedikiah, only the deal doesn’t exactly work in his favor. He wants a kill squad to go after the Tomorrow People and put down Cara once and for all, thereby exacting the vengeance he’s longed to reap; however, if he doesn’t come back with the heads of Cara and John effectively on a spike, Jedikiah will activate an explosive implanted on Julian’s neck. While there’s always the chance that Jedikiah would kill Julian regardless, as he knows how dangerous a break-out he’s dealing with, Julian might deem it a risk worth taking, considering his hatred of Cara and the fact that Nelly’s death has caused his sanity and rationality to take a backseat to his thirst for blood.

Elsewhere on The Tomorrow People, John disobeys Cara’s orders when he learns Julian knows the location of the Tomorrow People’s lair, while Astrid is plagued by nightmares following the shooting.

The Tomorrow People airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW. Tonight’s episode will be the final installment of The Tomorrow People to air on Wednesdays, as the show will move to Mondays at 9:00 following Star-Crossed.

Will Ultra exterminate Julian regardless of whether he can bring them a member of the Tomorrow People? Are the Tomorrow People ready for a potential attack by Julian? How will Astrid be able to overcome the trauma suffered at the hands of Ultra?

The following week, fellow freshman drama Star-Crossed will close out its season, this time at 8:00.

The Tuesday dramas will also be concluding their 2013-2014 runs a week apart, with The Originals drawing to a close on May 13th at 8:00 and Supernatural‘s ninth season going out with a bang on May 20th at 9:00. Arrow will conclude its third season on Wednesday, May 14th at 8:00, with midseason drama The 100 stretching its way into June with a first season finale on June 11th at 9:00. The Thursday dramas will be the only CW pairing that ends on the same night, as The Vampire Diaries and Reign will have their respective season finales on Thursday, May 15th. The lone remaining series, Hart of Dixie, will end its third season on Friday, May 16th at 9:00.

No date has been set for the resumption of Beauty and the Beast‘s second season, though The CW has announced that two-part miniseries Labyrinth will air Thursday, May 22nd and Friday, May 23rd. The project, which stars the likes of Katie McGrath and Tom Felton, chronicles the journeys of two women separated by centuries as they hunt for The Holy Grail.

Season finale dates for ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX should all be released in the coming weeks, likely around the time we get summer schedules for each network.

Which CW finale are you most looking forward to? Of the currently unrenewed shows (Hart of Dixie, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Star-Crossed, The 100, and The Tomorrow People), which do you think make it to another season? Are you surprised that talk of the end of the season has already begun?

Whatever he may feel toward Cara, John will always put the safety and well-being of the Tomorrow People ahead of her and since they’re not anywhere near being through with Ultra, he’s going to be lurking in the shadows, trying to guide his people toward the right path. In doing so, there will continue to be disagreements with how Cara opts to rule and the next major one might get John a fate worse than exile.

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the next two episodes of The Tomorrow People.

Wednesday, February 26th – “Brother’s Keeper”
After getting some shocking news, Stephen (Robbie Amell) attempts to restore order in both his worlds by making a deal with Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino). With a new break-out on the loose, Cara (Peyton List) and Russell (Aaron Yoo) try to lure him in but must contend with a trap from Ultra. Meanwhile, Jedikiah is closer to developing a new secret technology that could change his future.

Wednesday, March 5th – “Enemy of My Enemy”
Julian (guest star James Mackay) is back and angrier than ever, but when he gets caught by Ultra he is forced to strike a deal that could cost his and Stephen’s lives. John (Luke Mitchell) once again disobeys Cara’s orders when he learns the Julian has discovered the location of the Tomorrow People’s lair. Meanwhile, Astrid (Madeleine Mantock) is plagued by nightmares after her near-death experience and turns to her new friend John for some comfort.

The Tomorrow People airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW.

What type of deal will Julian strike with Ultra? How will John help Astrid deal with her nightmares? Could Jedikiah be developing a weapon capable of wiping the Tomorrow People off the map?

While there’s a certain understanding about the baser elements of what it means to be a Tomorrow Person and the journey they all took to get where they are, no one else was impacted by the Annex Project as much as him; he can’t unload the guilt on his shoulders because there’s no one that knows its extent. However, as lonely as he may feel sometimes, it’s better to have that chapter of the Tomorrow People history stay in the past and not pop its head up, as allowing murder to go in between his people would only set them up for failure in their cause for liberation.

On the next episode of The Tomorrow People, Cara and Russell track a break-out who has the ability to kill without recourse, something the former attributes to a possible evolutionary mutation rather than anything to do with Ultra. Regardless of whether the latest break-out to hit their radar is the result of Ultra resuming the Annex Project or of some hocus pocus from Mother Nature, the Tomorrow People need to corral them and fast, since their ability to kill could be harnessed into a weapon like Ultra tried to do with John. If they’re not able to neutralize this latest break-out, things could become very dicey for the Tomorrow People, with one of their own being turned against them and used to decimate their ranks. But even if they do figure out a way to protect themselves from the damage the break-out could cause, what’s to stop another souped up Tomorrow Person from barreling toward them in the near future? And then another? And then another?

Elsewhere on The Tomorrow People, Stephen attempts to make a deal with Jedikiah, while a secret technology that could change the future is on Ultra’s radar.

The Tomorrow People airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW.

How would the restoration of the Annex Project impact the Tomorrow People’s quest for social equality? What type of deal do you think Stephen will be looking to make with Jedikiah? In what ways will the Jameson family change now that Stephen knows that his mother has powers?

Ultra is still too powerful, too all-seeing, too much of a threat for Astrid to be able to live above ground, so unfortunately, until a deal can be brokered or Ultra takes on some serious damage, she’ll be spending the foreseeable future in a place she never thought she would end up. Fueled by his guilt over dragging his friend into this and his desire to pay Ultra back for all the carnage they’ve inflicted on his people, Stephen will do anything he can to get Astrid back into the normal life she deserves, even if it means dealing with The Founder.

On the next episode of The Tomorrow People, Stephen gets approached by The Founder when a rogue break-out pops up on Ultra’s radar. He is to bring them in through different channels than other break-outs have been brought in due to the fact that the break-out is The Founder’s daughter Cassanda. Though Stephen constructs a deal that would effectively exchange The Founder’s daughter for Astrid’s freedom, he might have second thoughts when her actually meets Cassandra and learns about how much of a monster her father truly is. Stephen already knows that The Founder is not someone to mess with and that Ultra has been responsible for countless atrocities, so when he gets even more clued in on the extent of The Founder’s viciousness, can he find a way to save both Cassandra and Astrid?

Elsewhere on The Tomorrow People, a clash between John and Cara causes the latter to issue harsh punishment for the former, while Stephen learns a surprising secret about his mother.

The Tomorrow People airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW.

Will Stephen decide to bring in The Founder’s daughter as a way of ensuring Astrid’s protection? Should he trust that The Founder would live up to his word in a way that Jedikiah didn’t? What type of surprising secret will Stephen learn about his mother?

After the comfort level with his powers increased, her role in his life was to keep him grounded, one foot in the world of humanity, and serve as a reminder of who he was before all this happened. However, Astrid has also become Stephen’s Achilles heel, a valuable asset that could easily be picked off if a rogue break-out wanted to inflict damage or if Jedikiah wanted to tighten Ultra’s grip on his nephew’s psyche.

On tonight’s episode of The Tomorrow People, an interaction with Astrid has increased the hostility between Stephen and Hillary, as Hillary witnessed him teleporting with Astrid in the middle of the street. With her competitiveness still in overdrive and her survival instinct kicking into high gear due to the competition between aspiring Ultra agents, Hillary feels as if this is an unfair advantage that Stephen has and that she needs to weaken him in any way she can in order to build herself up. However, rather than simply cut his chances at being an agent off at the knees, she’s potentially putting an innocent girl in danger, the type of collateral damage that can stay with even the most hardened of agents for years to come. Is Hillary prepared to have Astrid’s blood on her hands all in the name of her own survival?

Elsewhere on The Tomorrow People, Stephen’s uneasy about being invited on a family camping trip with Peter, so he enlists John and Cara to help watch over Astrid while he’s gone.

The Tomorrow People airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW.

Why do you think Peter has shown so much interest in Stephen’s mother? Will Astrid be safe while Stephen is off camping? How would she react to coming into closer contact with other members of the Tomorrow People?

Even though things with John have been rocky and her trust in him greatly diminished following the revelation of his ability to kill, she didn’t think that he would be ousted by a spur-of-the-moment vote from their increasingly frustrated ranks and that she would be left to bear the weight of responsibility for an entire race of people on her own. As such, the opening missions, days, and weeks of Cara’s reign as head of the Tomorrow People are bound to be rocky; she has to figure out how to move from second-in-command to leader and how to make those working under her respect her enough as a leader to go along with her plans.

On tonight’s episode of The Tomorrow People, Cara is forced to deal with the reemergence of nihilistic Julian, the man she spent her first days away from home with after being kicked out by her father. Ever since she found John and the Tomorrow People, Cara has done her best to run away from who she used to be, putting enough of a wall up between herself and other people to where no one knows the full extent of her experiences as a fledgling break-out. They only know Cara, the fearless leader who they trust enough to put their futures into the hands of, the warrior whose action-first mindset marks a direct contrast from John’s patience-focused approach to living life in an Ultra world. But with Julian reentering her life at arguably the most vulnerable time since The Tomorrow People began, a fuller picture of who Cara once was will become clearer to both the rest of her people and herself. The only question remaining, though, is whether Cara will be able to keep her head in the game with a dangerous reminder of her former self lurking around.

Elsewhere on The Tomorrow People, Stephen and his fellow Ultra trainees are given a test by Jedikiah, while Russell is sent on a dangerous recon mission and John works with the latest break-out.

The Tomorrow People airs tonight at 9:00 on The CW. You can check out spoilers for the next three episodes of the show here.

How will coming into contact with her former handler impact Cara’s leadership of the Tomorrow People? Do you think that Stephen’s performance in Jedikiah’s test will raise any red flags? Is John going to be able to handle his new role within the ranks of the Tomorrow People or is the demotion going to further distance him from Cara?

One can’t really blame her for the abandonment issues suffered after her father kicked her out of the house, but it’s made her a seemingly cold figure and someone who doesn’t exactly inspire the new breakouts to flock to her due to her inviting, personable nature. Nonetheless, Cara keeps her past right on the edge of her mind and allows it to guide her decision-making and behavior, no matter how subconscious its influence may be. But what if her past were to come to her present and look her right in the face?

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the next three episodes of The Tomorrow People.

Wednesday, January 15th – “The Citadel”
After Stephen (Robbie Amell) returns from the brink, he thinks he has a clue to what happened to his father, but his fellow Tomorrow People are not sure they believe him. When the Tomorrow People learn some disappointing news from John (Luke Mitchell), they make an unexpected decision about their future. The Tomorrow People finally get a lead on Ultra’s secret research lab and they devise a dangerous plan to free all those being held captive there. Meanwhile, Stephen’s mom introduces Stephen and his brother Luca (guest star Jacob Kogan) to a new man she is dating, but Stephen is having a hard time getting a read on him.

Wednesday, January 22nd – “Rumble”
Stephen and his fellow Ultra trainees are given a test by Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino) to see who is worthy of becoming an Ultra agent, but not everyone is happy to work as a team. Cara (Peyton List) is faced with a mysterious visitor from her past. Russell (Aaron Yoo) is sent on a dangerous recon mission that could force a clash between Tomorrow People groups. Meanwhile, John works with a new break-out.

Wednesday, January 29th – “Sitting Ducks”
Stephen feels uneasy about his fellow trainee Hillary (guest star Alexa Vega) who has a secret agenda of her own. Stephen’s mom wants the family to go camping including her new boyfriend Peter (guest star Robert Gant), whom Stephen seems to be having a difficult time reading. Knowing he is going to be out of town, Stephen asks for Cara (Peyton List) and John’s (Luke Mitchell) help to make sure that everything is ok with Astrid (Madeleine Mantock) while he’s gone.

The Tomorrow People airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW.

Who do you think the visitor from Cara’s past will be? What type of agenda does Hillary have and is it going to bring about harm to the Tomorrow People? Why has Stephen had such a difficult time in getting a read on his mother’s new boyfriend?

Not everyone believed in the seemingly tall tale that was used to scare new breakouts into staying in line, but it turns out that not only does the facility exist, it’s still fully operational. Though it likely has a seemingly endless security team and ways of ensuring that Tomorrow People won’t be able to user their powers to escape, would it necessarily be a bad move to try and release those currently held in captivity?

On the next episode of The Tomorrow People, Cara and John, who knew about the existence of the facility due to it housing the Annex Project, decide to break into the facility and continue their mission to keep all Tomorrow People from falling into the clutches of Ultra. In addition to bolstering their ranks and doing their part to save their people from certain death, they would be able to get revenge on Jedikiah for all that he’s put them through by showing that they’re powerful enough to find and infiltrate the secret facility without losing any of their own. It would be as much a moral victory as a numbers victory, one that allows Cara to seize control of more missions and one that gives the Tomorrow People the type of confidence they need going forward.

Elsewhere on The Tomorrow People, Stephen thinks he’s found a clue about what happened to his father, while Marla introduces Stephen and Luka to a new man that she’s dating, someone who Stephen has a difficult time in getting a read on.

The Tomorrow People airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW.

What do you think The Tomorrow People will find at Ultra’s research facility? Is Stephen merely running on hope when it comes to information about his father? Could the new man that Marla’s dating be a rogue Tomorrow person?
