The Fosters Season 2: Alberto De Diego to Recur

TVLine is reporting that Alberto De Diego (Major Crimes) is slated to recur on the second half of The Fosters‘ second season. He’ll be playing Rafael, the program director at a foster drop-in facility where Callie goes for help.

It’s as yet unclear why Callie seeks the help of the drop-in facility. The most likely scenario is that it has to do with her delayed adoption and the complicated emotions she’s experiencing from her relationship with Brandon; being an unbiased third party, Rafael could give her the type of advice and perspective she needs to hear regarding Brandon and point her in the direction that she needs to go if she wants the adoption to be feasible in the future. Even though she has a right to be absolutely crushed by the stunt the Quinns pulled on her, Callie can’t afford to go into self-destruct mode and she might need someone without any ties to the situation to pull her back from the abyss before she goes over for good.

In addition to his role on the TNT procedural, De Diego has appeared on the likes of The Nine Lives of Chloe King, Awkward Universe, and Stone Jones vs. The Recession.

The second half of The Fosters‘ second season will premiere January 2015. A concrete premiere date should be released later this fall.

The Fosters 2.10 Sneak Peeks: Can Callie Help Girls United?

Though she’s still unable to view herself as a success story, Callie wouldn’t have made as progress as she has without her stint in Girls United. It might not have been a long stint, but it allowed her the chance to reprioritize and to gain perspective on her life with Lena and Stef that she wouldn’t have gotten had she made it to Indiana. That progress has shown the other girls from the home that it is possible to overcome bad things in your life and that a quality forever home could be out there for them, but given the destruction of the home, Callie wants to find a way to help the girls even more.

On the summer finale of The Fosters, Callie calls in a favor with Robert and gets him to host a fundraiser for Girls United. If they raise enough money, there’s the possibility that every girl from Girls United will get to leave juvie and come back together, but the chances of that get diminished when, as she’s putting together the fundraiser, Callie finds herself betrayed by someone she trusted. Not only will it impact the fundraiser and the lives of those the fundraiser stands to benefit, but it could negatively impact Callie’s relationship with Robert just when the two were getting closer. Will Callie be able to salvage the fundraiser, as well as her relationship with Robert, or is everything she worked for about to crumble around her?

Elsewhere on The Fosters, Lena makes a life-changing decision when she learns the extent of the pressure facing Connor, while Someone’s Little Sister is pushed to the brink by tensions between Brandon and Lou and Jesus is forced to evaluate his relationship with Hayley when he receives a visitor from his past.

The Fosters 2.09 Sneak Peeks: Callie Backslides

During her visit to Girls United, Callie was reminded of just how much progress she had made since her time in the group home. She might not be aware of it and she might try to downplay it when people bring it up to her, the latter likely due to the pressure to live up to the reputation of being a “success story,” but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s not the same girl she was when she arrived at the Fosters, nor is she the same girl that first walked into Girls United. Yet Callie’s sensitivity and troubled past have made the progress she’s achieved feel unstable, as if it could all come crashing down around her at a moment’s notice.

On the next episode of The Fosters, Callie continues her forward march toward wellness by working through her issues with sex. Or at least she thinks she’s figured out her issues, as an encounter with someone from her past strips away the work that she’s been doing and then some, leaving Callie feeling like she was before Lena and Stef took her in. Scared, angry, and looking to shut herself off from the world, this is when Callie can show that she’s a success story; if she can somehow deal with the negative emotions this encounter brings up and emerge on the other side without having to run away, she’ll show that Rita and the rest of Girls United were right about how far she’s come and about how much she’s learned in the past six months. Is Callie ready to tackle problems that would have sent her scurrying in the other direction even one year ago?

Elsewhere on The Fosters, Mat’s idea to take Mariana to a Mexican street festival for their first date has inadvertent consequences, while Hayley wants Jesus to prove that he’s looking for more than just sex and Mike helps Ana make plans to right her past wrongs.

Lena’s soft heart is the reason that Brandon came to her instead of Stef to confess what happened with Dani; in fact, it’s the reason that she has five kids to begin with, as she felt so strongly about Jesus, Mariana, Callie, and Jude that she couldn’t turn them away from her home. Yet that sensitivity and compassion can sometimes get her into trouble, as her emotions are so strong that they can sometimes cloud her judgment, especially when it comes to her children. But what happens when she becomes invested in something that could forever change her family? Will she allow her emotions to dictate her decision-making? Or will she be able to tune all of that out and listen to the voice in her head?

Monday, August 4th – “Girls Reunited”
Callie pays a visit to Girls United to pitch in for Community Day and is surprised by new developments at her former foster group home. Paranoid neighbors are putting pressure on the home’s landlord to kick the girls out, and a new resident has secrets that could jeopardize the safety of the entire group. Meanwhile, Mariana and Hayley plan to cook a romantic double-date dinner for Mat and Jesus. And Stef receives a concerning letter from Ana.

Monday, August 11th – “Leaky Faucets”
The Foster kids attend a Mexican street festival, but the fun day takes a turn when emotions flare up. With help from Wyatt, Callie works to overcome her recent bout of panic attacks by learning to trust her instincts, but an encounter with someone from the past threatens to violently derail her progress. Mat surprises Mariana with a date at the festival and is confused when Mariana seems offended. Jesus tries to impress Hayley but she wants him to prove he’s with her for more than just sex. Meanwhile, Mike and Ana make plans to right past wrongs.

Monday, August 18th – “Someone’s Little Sister” (Summer Finale)
In an effort to help Rita with a dilemma involving Girls United, Callie calls in a favor from her wealthy biological father, Robert Quinn. But an unexpected betrayal threatens to derail the new bond she’s forging with the Quinns. Meanwhile, the pressure Connor faces from his father to end his friendship with Jude intensifies and leads Lena to make a life-changing decision. The tension mounts between Brandon and Lou, despite their bandmate Mat’s warnings against drama. And a visit with someone from his past makes Jesus see his relationship with Hayley in a whole new light.

The Fosters 2.08 Sneak Peeks: Mariana Makes Dinner for Her Date

Mariana’s lack of luck in love has caused her to focus her attention on other matters – namely, her spot on the dance team and the insecurity that she feels about her talent. While Mariana thinks that she’s an okay dancer, she doesn’t think that she’s up to snuff compared to her teammates, causing her to fear being cut and tossed back into the open water of Anchor Beach. Mariana finally found a place she thought she belonged, so the last thing that she wants is to lose the built-in peer group that the dance team provides. But if she does find herself out the outside of the dance team bubble looking in, has she found someone to keep her company in Mat?

On the next episode of The Fosters, Mariana and Hayley decide to make dinner for their double-date with Mat and Jesus. It’s a wonder that Mariana even accepted a date from Mat, seeing as how he’s antagonized her every time he’s been around her, yet she might be the one who messes things up if the dinner turns out poorly or if Jesus won’t let the two get to know one another. Mariana’s lack of cooking experience combined with her lack of experience in the dating world make this double-date all the more nerve-wracking, as she has to create a delicious meal and get over her anxiety around boys in order for the night to be somewhat worthwhile. If things turn out well, though, and Mat is on his best behavior, she might have found someone to spend time with if her position on the dance team grows more uncertain.

Elsewhere on The Fosters, Callie pays a visit to her friends at Girls United, while Stef receives a concerning letter from Ana and Brandon considers the possibility of therapy after what happened with Dani.

The Fosters 2.07 Sneak Peeks: Jesus is Torn Between Emma and Hayley

Though Jesus has done his fair share of dating, he still has no idea how to handle the situation he’s in with Emma and Hayley. Be it his desire to avoid hurting anyone or his worry about being forced to own up to whatever decision he made, Jesus was reluctant to either make things official with Hayley or let Emma down and only went with the latter when a frustrated Mariana told the latter about what was going on. But how will this impact Jesus’ standing on the wrestling team and the chemistry that the team needs to maintain in order to be successful?

On tonight’s episode of The Fosters, Jesus and Hayley are trying to make things work, while Emma makes no secret of her distaste for A) Jesus picking Hayley over her and B) having to find out from Mariana. Emma is the type that would have at least respected Jesus for sticking to his guns and not stringing her along, even if she wasn’t happy with his decision to be with Hayley, but since he was too scared to be honest with her, any chance they have of peacefully co-existing on the wrestling team is pretty much done. With neither one of them willing to quit, the team is going to have to deal with some serious tension for the foreseeable future, which could place both Jesus and Emma on the hot seat if they can’t perform to make up for the distraction their break-up will cause.

Elsewhere on The Fosters, Callie brings Jude for a visit with the Quinn family in hopes of soothing his anxieties, while Mariana’s insecurities threaten her position on the dance team on the eve of a competition and Lena supports Brandon as he comes clean to Stef and Mike about what happened with Dani.

Though Mariana might be firmly ensconced on the dance team, she’s still of the mindset that she’s one missed move away from being booted. She’s been so desperate to find a social group that will accept her for herself that she’s hanging on to her spot for dear life, even when, by all indications, she’s not in any danger of leaving the team. Her position as the principal’s daughter might have helped her case to get on the team, but Mariana has secured herself a spot on the dance team through her effort and continued improvement, so an upcoming competition shouldn’t be that much of a worry for her. While she might not be the best dancer on the team, she’s grown into a solid asset, but will her insecurities allow her to show that during the competition? Or will she sabotage herself and inadvertently threaten her position on the team?

Monday, July 21st – “Mother”

The Fosters 2.06 Sneak Peeks: Wyatt Asks Brandon for Advice

Neither Wyatt nor Callie know why she had the reaction she did when they were in bed together. While Callie seems to believe her reticence to have sex with Wyatt means that she’s still hung up on Brandon, a thought that completely ignores that her time with Wyatt was her first intimate encounter since Liam, Wyatt is left with no leads and doesn’t know how to get Callie to open up to him. The two might be close, but she’s still uncomfortable with allowing herself to be vulnerable, so Wyatt is going to have to find someone else to help him reach his girlfriend.

On the next episode of The Fosters, Wyatt approaches Brandon asking for advice and gets turned away, something that will likely further his suspicions that things are back on between the eldest Foster and his would-be sister. Brandon, who continues to claim that Callie is nothing but his sister and that there’s no chance of them becoming anything more, could have very easily helped Wyatt with his situation, but instead, he chooses to be petty about “losing” Callie, as if there was ever a possibility that he could date his adopted sister. By choosing to treat Wyatt like he did, he might have put another fracture in Callie’s new relationship and sabotaged a real chance for his future sister to be happy, to have someone in her life who supports her whole-heartedly. And considering how guarded Callie is and how difficult it is for her to trust after years in the foster system, getting in the way of any relationship, be it friendship or otherwise, is pretty despicable.

Elsewhere on The Fosters, Stef confronts Mike about Ana and receives an answer about where he was the night of the disappearance, while Mariana continues to take her frustrations with the situation she’s been put in out on Jesus.

The Fosters 2.05 Sneak Peeks: Stef’s Suspicions About Mike Linger

Stef and Mike might not always see eye to eye, but they’re at a fairly strong place in their relationship, one filled with the type of mutual respect that hasn’t always been present in their interactions. While Stef is busy emotionally and financially preparing for her sixth child, Mike has seemingly found his rock in Dani, someone who has gotten him healthier and provided support in the wake of his relapse. However, as much as Stef might want to believe that Mike is on the upswing, she can’t shake the idea that he had something to do with Ana’s disappearance, that the blackout he had is masking an ugly truth.

On tonight’s episode of The Fosters, Stef’s suspicions about what happened the night Ana disappeared linger and only get exacerbated when she learns that a Jane Doe that was recently brought in was killed by blunt force trauma. There’s no guarantee that this body belongs to Ana, not when there are innumerable ways for someone to die from blunt force trauma, but the signs are starting to point toward Stef’s greatest fear – that Mike got blackout drunk and beat Ana to death for everything that she put the family through. The biggest hurdle remaining might end up being the dental records, though there’s no guarantee of when Stef will be able to bring herself to look at them. Or if she’ll even be able to look at them at all.

Elsewhere on The Fosters, Emma second guesses her breakup with Jesus, which puts Mariana in an uncomfortable position, while Callie blames herself for what happened with Jude and Brandon confesses his past transgressions to someone from the band.

The Foster family’s closeness can sometimes be a negative thing. While they have one of the tightest family bonds around and know that they’re not alone if something bad were to happen, there’s the possibility of taking advantage of said bond and using their inter-family positions as leverage. When you’re that close to somebody, it can be hard to turn them down and send them off into the social wilderness, but in Mariana’s case, leaving Jesus to his own devices might be preferable to being caught in the middle of his latest romantic shenanigans. Could the awkward position he puts her in due to his love triangle and the unfinished business he has with Emma negatively impact their relationship as siblings?

Stef struggles with her suspicions about Mike and debates moving forward with her investigation into Ana’s disappearance. When Brandon’s bandmates take him on a hike for some “special” inspiration, Brandon opens up to an unexpected confidant about his past transgressions. And Callie’s emotions get the better of her when things get hot and heavy with Wyatt.
