“We have several of our strongest comedies by some of our best auspices being held for midseason, including the final season of ‘Parks and Recreation,’” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke.

The Amy Poehler-starrer has been on the Peacock net since 2009. Despite Parks struggles in the ratings, it has long recieved critical acclaim, as well as passionate fan support. The show has also garnered several Emmy nominations, and Poehler recieved a Golden Globe for her performance as lead actress in a comedy.

NBC has not yet released the length of Parks and Recreation‘s final season, and also confirmed that Parenthood‘s upcoming sixth season will be its last.

Will you miss Pawnee?

But don’t panic! The hold is not necessarily a bad thing. While it means only four more episode of Parks will air this year, it means that more will air in the Spring half of the season. Two episodes of the comedy will air on November 14th, and two on November 21st – one of the 14th’s episodes is Halloween-themed.

Filling the timeslot will be episodes of The Voice, football games, and various specials including an SNL Halloween clip show, The Sing-Off, and The Sound of Music telecast starring Carrie Underwood.

Parks and Recreation is currently scheduled to return on January 9th.

The move seems to be an effort on NBC’s part to boost the ratings for Sean Saves the World…and The Michael J. Fox Show. Hayes’ comedy was just given a script order and Fox already has a full-season deal for his semi-autobiographical family sitcom.

So not to worry Parks fans. It doesn’t look like the move is because of Parks itself.

No reason has been given by the network or either actor, though there’s a chance that the aging comedy needed to cut cast members in order to make it to its upcoming sixth season. (Word came down today from an executive producer is that it was a creative decision.)

Jones was the second actor to sign on to what would become Parks and Recreation, then thought an Office spin-off, while Lowe first appeared at the end of season two and helped replace Paul Schneider’s Mark Brendanawicz, who left the series at the end of that season. (And was never spoken of again.) The two characters they play, Chris Traeger and beautiful tropical fish Ann Perkins, are trying to have a baby together, so it seems likely that Ann will conceive sometime during this season and the reunited couple will move somewhere to raise the child, potentially facilitated by a job offer for Chris.

Below is the full statement from Parks executive producer Mike Schur:

“The news about Rob and Rashida is true — they will be leaving the show after the 13th episode of the upcoming season six. We’ve been working on their storyline (on and off) for four seasons now, and heading into this year, with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like a natural time to move them into the next phase.

We absolutely love both Rashida and Rob, and will be sad to see them go. Rashida was one of the very first people we knew we wanted in the cast, and as important as Ann is to Leslie (and vice-versa), she’ll certainly never be far from Pawnee. Rob we initially thought we could only have for six or eight episodes, and we couldn’t be happier that he will have stuck around for 75.

They are wonderful, funny, committed actors, they’ve been a huge part of the Parks and Rec family, and we think we have a great Pawnee send-off in the works for them.”

The one-hour season premiere of Parks and Recreation is set to air Thursday, September 26th at 8:00 on NBC. You can check out the rest of NBC’s fall premiere dates here.

How do you feel about a Parks and Recreation without Chris and Ann? Is this move based on financials, a new creative direction, some combination of the two, or something else entirely? Will Parks and Recreation get a seventh season or could this be the year we say goodbye to Pawnee for good?

While his attempt at becoming a cop didn’t pan out, he said goodbye to Special Agent Burt Macklin and found a role working with Ben at Sweetums, which could lead to a more stable, permanent job that utilizes his talents and allows him to grow and prosper. It’s an exhilarating time for Andy, finding his place in life and figuring out who he wants to be, but as we’ve already seen this season, he’s not exactly abandoned his inner child – not yet, at least. Could this mean that Burt Macklin isn’t as retired as he said he was? Are we in for one final mission and, more importantly, a reunion with Janet Snakehole?

Listed below are the date, title, and description for the next two episodes of Parks and Recreation, including the fifth season finale.

Thursday, April 25th – “Swing Vote”
Leslie (Amy Poehler) gets upset when Ron (Nick Offerman) submits budget cut proposals getting rid of the local mini golf course. Andy (Chris Pratt) and Ben (Adam Scott) celebrate a big donation made to their charity, while Ann (Rashida Jones) helps Tom (Aziz Ansari) with his girlfriend troubles.

Thursday, May 2nd – “Are You Better Off?”
Leslie celebrates her first year as a city councilor. A surprise discovery leads Andy to call the only man he knows who can help with the investigation: retired Special Agent Burt Macklin. Meanwhile, April (Aubrey Plaza) gets some life-changing news, and Tom debates a big business opportunity.

Parks and Recreation airs Thursdays at 8:30 on NBC.

How should Leslie celebrate the end of her first year on the city council? Has Andy found his rightful place working with Ben? What type of life-changing news will April receive?

Jerry (Gary?) Gergich has officially decided to retire to a life of relaxation, quality time with Gayle, and zero insults from his co-workers. His absence will also force one member of the Parks Department to assume his role as office punching bag and main target of everyone’s ire and frustration, which Jerry has acted as for quite a while. While Jerry may have gone along with the joke out of love for his friends, a desire to keep the workplace harmonious, and a loving home situation waiting for him at the end of the day, the next person in line might not have the same attitude. Which of the Parks and Recreation gang, in particular, is sweating the possibility of becoming New Jerry?

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions for the next four episodes of Parks and Recreation, including a double-bill on April 18th.

Thursday, April 4th – “Partridge”
Leslie (Amy Poehler) and Ben (Adam Scott) travel back to his hometown of Partridge, MN to accept the key to the city. Ron (Nick Offerman) gets served a lawsuit from councilman Jamm (guest star Jon Glaser), while Ann (Rashida Jones) and Chris (Rob Lowe) take a compatible parenting quiz.

Thursday, April 11th – “Animal Control”
Leslie decides to give the Animal Control Department a much-needed makeover. Ann tries to get Ron (Nick Offerman) the medical attention he needs, while Ben (Adam Scott), Tom (Aziz Ansari) and Andy (Chris Pratt) recruit donors for their charity foundation.

Thursday, April 18th – “Article Two”
Leslie works to get rid of outdated laws from the original town charter that no longer make sense. Chris gives April and Ron management training, while Ann and Ben get in a bidding war over a present for Leslie.

Thursday, April 18th – “Jerry’s Scrapbook” (airing 9:30)
When Leslie finds out Jerry (Jim O’Heir) is retiring, she struggles with the proper way to commemorate the occasion. Chris and Ann prepare to have a baby together, while Tom worries he will become the office punching bag once Jerry leaves.

It was a touching moment and a culmination of a relationship that has only grown stronger recently, but on tonight’s episode, Leslie might have to take another moment.

That’s because she’ll be meeting the entirety of her celebrity sex list and the man that she measures all other men by – Vice President Joe Biden. The entire thing was set up by Ben as an engagement present to his bride-to-be; Leslie had come to D.C. to help Ben get the rest of his things following his time working on the campaign, but before they could pick up the rest of his belongings, they stop into a room where the Vice President was. Leslie, of course, doesn’t know how to react now that she’s face-to-face with one of her political idols and rendering the ever-articulate Leslie Knope speechless is an accomplishment in and of itself for Ben, as well as a sign of his security and confidence in their relationship. Obviously, the chances of Leslie beginning a torrid affair with Joe Biden are non-existent, but getting her a meeting with the man shows that he can put her happiness above his pride, a type of flexibility that is a good sign for their relationship.

Elsewhere on Parks and Recreation, Leslie gets upset over April trying to turn Lot 48 into a dog park, Andy tests his police skills once his computer goes missing, and Tom tries to get Ben’s help with launching Rent A Swag.

Parks and Recreation airs tonight at 9:30 on NBC.

How do you think Leslie will react to meeting the Vice President once the shock wears off? Will she make an inadvertent pass at him, or will she simply invite him out for some waffles? What could she get Ben as an engagement present that would be better than this, if anything at all?

Leslie Knope may have had a rough go at it during her first days in her new position, but it looks like she’ll be getting a major positive boost in the form of a certain politico.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Vice President Joe Biden will be appearing on an upcoming episode of Parks and Recreation. On November 15th, the second most powerful man in the country is set to cameo on the NBC political comedy, as Ben introduces Leslie to one of her political idols (and the entirety of her celebrity sex list). She had been losing a little bit of the vim and vigor she had for the political process now that she’s helping to enact the laws (and facing lobbyists, stubborn opponents, approval ratings, etc.), so being able to be in the same room with and talk to someone of Biden’s stature (both nationally and in her mind) could help her disposition improve rather quickly.

Biden will be joining multiple national politicians that have guest starred on Parks and Recreation this season, as the show has been dividing its time between Washington D.C. and Pawnee. Senators Olympia Snowe and Barbara Boxer made an appearance earlier in the season, but Leslie didn’t get a chance to enjoy meeting two of her biggest political influences (or make a good impression on them, for that matter). With her relationship with Ben having moved to the next level in the last episode and her comfort in the role of city councilor growing by the day, Leslie might be in the right place to appreciate meeting the Vice President and reflect on just how far she’s come.

Hopefully the Vice President likes waffles.

Parks and Recreation airs tonight at 9:30 on NBC. The show will be moving to 8:30 on Thursdays come mid-season.

Have you been enjoying the current season of Parks and Recreation? How do you think that Vice President Biden will do in his episode? What kind of reaction will Leslie have to coming face-to-face with her celebrity sex list?
