The popular crime drama, starring Matt Bomer and Tim DeKay, will wrap after a six-episode sixth and final season.

White Collar‘s Season 5 finale (aired January 30) saw Bomer’s Neal kidnapped by an unknown assailant, his GPS anklet cut.  The shortened final season will stand to resolve this cliffhanger, as well as tie up the rest of the series.

The cancellation comes as a surprise to White Collar fans, as the show still performs solidly in the ratings, and is one of the most recognizable cable dramas, especially with Bomer at the forefront.  However, the show is not owned by USA, though at this point in the series’ run the network is responsible for productio costs, and with such a well-known cast and location shoots in New York, White Collar is expensive to produce.

The change also comes as USA Network is going through a portfolio shift, replacing its older, though popular, shows, with new ones.

Jason O’Mara, known for his roles in ‘Vegas’ and ‘Terra Nova’ is headed towards the USA Network as he has been appointed to play an ER doctor in the Network’s drama pilot, named ‘Complications’ by Matt Nix. The drama pilot is being produced by the Fox Television Studios.

According to Nix, Complications is about a cynical Resident ER named Dr. John Ellis, the character played by O’Mara. The life of Ellis has transformed after his involvement in a gang shooting incident, when he is enforced to discover the pro-activeness with which a doctor can treat and diagnose according to his patient’s medical condition. He voluntarily gets involved in a drive-by shooting incident, in an attempt to save the life of a young boy and ends up killing one of his attackers. And when he gets to know that the little boy is eventually headed towards death, he is compelled to save him, resulting in a life-transformation for him as a doctor and his outlook for medicine.

Matt Nix, who has recently finished seven seasons of Burn Notice, is going to write and executive produce this drama show for Fox Television Studios. O’Mara will be seen for his recurring role on The Good Wife and was seen in CBS’ period drama Vegas, last year. In the year 2011, O’Mara starred in one of the most expensive shows on Fox, the sci-fi drama Terra Nova. Other shows to his credits are inclusive of The Agency, Band of Brothers, and Life on Marsand features Resident Evil: Extinction. Jason will also be lending his voice for Batman in the animated film Justice League: War.

USA Network has given the green signal for another 16-episode season of the spy drama series, Covert Affairs. The President of USA Network, Chris McCumber said that this one-of-a-kind series is one of the most popular stories, with a global audience and the channel is happy for its renewal. According to Chris, the storyline of the series is extraordinary, which has such an assortment of characters and what gives it the edge is the amazing locations. He also said that Covert Affairs is one of the keystones of America’s authentic signature dramas.

Covert Affairs season 4 just finished its first half in mid-September and was rated among this summer’s top 10 cable shows, with a viewership of almost 4 million. The best part about this news is that the next season gets renewed only weeks before the return of the second-half of the 4^th season. The last six episodes of this season have been assured by the co-creators Chris Ord and Matt Corman, as the most unexpected where Annie Walker, the CIA agent played by Piper Perabo decides to portray her fake death and goes deep undercover in order to complete her mission of destroying Henry Wilcox (played by Gregory Itzin). According to Corman, the viewers will see a phenomenal change in the character of Annie but the end of the season, which totally transforms her as well as the show.

Ord says that this entirely new Annie will take Covert Affairs to another level. This time she has no help and has to cope up with the challenges all alone, it will be exciting to watch her deal with them and move on.  Kari Matchett, Christopher Gorham, Hill Harper and Peter Gallagher star in the spy drama, under the Universal Cable Productions with Corman and Ord as co-creators as well as executive producers alongside, Stephen Kay, David Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein. As a matter of fact, Gorham will be directing the fourth episode of the season’s second-half. The featured global locations this season are Copenhagen, Rome, Grand Bahama Island, Vienna, Medellín and Geneva.

The series, inspired by true events and created by White Collar‘s Jeff Eastin, revolves around a Southern California safe-house – a.k.a. Graceland – used by undercover government agents, and FBI rookie Agent Mike Waren as he learns the truth, or lies, about why he was placed at Graceland in the first place.

Graceland premiered on USA in June, and has seen lifts in its viewership since, growing to one of the summer’s top scripted dramas.  It stands apart from the lighter programming on the cable net, with grittier, serialized storytelling coupled with stunning cinamatography and captivating chracters…not to mention the plethora of secrets and lies dotting each and every storyline.

The drama will close its first season this Thursday, with Season 2 presumably premiering in Summer 2014.

Considering the extremely strong competition among cable networks over the last decade, I’d consider that a very considerable achievement. Among the shows that helped them reach that milestone were Suits, which was the number 1 scripted cable program on Thursday nights and Psych, leading the ever-growing social media market as the show with the most mentions on Wednesday nights.

There wasn’t a lot of scripted competition for Suits on Thursdays, but maintaining an average 5.5 million total viewers and about 2 million in their 25-54 demographic is nothing to sneeze about, especially when network television gives them a run for the money with favorites such as Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Person of Interest, Glee, Elementary, and The Vampire Diaries. Did you notice that Suits falls into no particular time zone? That’s because as a cable show, depending upon your time zone, it could go up against a different favorite show if you live in New York or Colorado. The same goes for CW shows, in case you were unaware.

Psych  is currently in its seventh, and likely second-to-last, season, yet still gained about 17% more viewers comparable to its 2012 numbers. If the cast wasn’t ready to move on, you’d have to wonder how long USA Network would let Psych rule the airwaves on Wednesdays. Depending upon where you live, Psych could be up against such powerhouses as Arrow, Supernatural, Modern Family, Nashville, CSI, Law & Order: SVU, Criminal Minds and Chicago Fire. TNT’s scripted cable drama Southland doesn’t see nearly the same numbers that Psych gets on Wednesdays.

WWE Monday Night Raw slams the rating on Monday nights and a duo of successful repeats, NCIS and Law and Order: SVU deliver outstanding numbers for the network.
