“On behalf of myself, Greg Garcia and Raising Hope’s amazing cast and crew, I would like to thank our audience for tuning in and supporting us over the last four seasons,” said executive producer Mike Mariano. “We planned our Season Four finale with this possibility in mind, and hope our loyal fans enjoy the way we’ve chosen to say goodbye to the Chances and to Natesville. Thanks again, and we’ll see you in syndication.”

It’s not a surprise that Hope has seen her last days, seeing as how creator Greg Garcia jumped ship for The Millers and the show found itself buried on Fridays after spending three seasons on Tuesdays. In fact, FOX was double pumping episodes for much of the fall, seemingly to get Hope off the schedule and into syndication even faster, so unless the show had especially overperformed, its cancellation was predetermined before the season even began.

The only FOX comedies that haven’t had their fates determined are multi-cam Dads, which aired its season finale in February; military ensemble Enlisted, Hope‘s critically acclaimed Friday partner; and Surviving Jack, which doesn’t premiere until later this month. While it’s possible that decisions on all three will come before the network unveils its fall 2014 schedule this coming May, it seems likelier that their fates won’t be revealed until then, especially if the network is planning on cancelling any or all. Networks tend to try and bury cancellations as best they can, unless it’s a situation like Raising Hope, where the show is less canceled and more concluded.

Raising Hope airs Fridays at 9:30 on FOX.

Will you miss Raising Hope? Do you think FOX is making the right decision in letting the show go? How much of a renewal chance do Dads, Surviving Jack, and Enlisted have?

While the Greg Garcia-created family comedy moves into the 9:30 slot that some of its episodes aired this fall, Enlisted will now air at 9:00 and immediately follow Bones, which has done some solid business on Fridays. The first Enlisted episode set to air at 9:00 finds Pete trying to distance himself from his brothers, while on the 9:30 Raising Hope, Burt and Virginia try to help Barney’s fledgling relationship with Maxine.

While the move will help Enlisted get sampled more than it was getting following Raising Hope, it might be two weeks too late, as the show needs every eyeball it can get in order to make it to a second season and the ceiling that it can now achieve has been lowered by delaying the move to 9:00. Often times, a show’s series premiere is its ratings high point, months of marketing and pre-season buzz culminating in a wave of sampling, and only in special circumstances can it build an audience out of a series premiere. Enlisted, which received a 0.6 in the 18-49 demo for its second episode, will likely have to add at least 67% to its current numbers to give itself a chance at another season; though it should receive a shot from airing after Bones, there’s no guarantee that enough of the procedural’s audience will find the show and stick with it for the remaining 11 episodes, all of which will air, per FOX’s TCA session last week.

What should help Enlisted is that it’s earned strong reviews and that no FOX comedy is doing especially great in L+SD ratings, with ratings leader New Girl staying around a 1.6-1.7 its past few airings. Given the ratings Friday Factor, the show might not have to catch Dads, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Mindy Project in order to take a slot on the schedule next season, but financially, there would be no way for the show to return at the ratings level it would have gotten at 9:30. Although it has a tall task ahead of it in building an audience after two poorly-rated episodes, especially now that it’s going head-to-head with the likes of Shark Tank and Grimm, Enlisted now has something of a chance to turn its fortunes around.

Do you think Enlisted moving to 9:00 will give it a chance at renewal? What ratings level would the show have to achieve in order to get a second season? Why would FOX place a comedy that garnered strong pre-season buzz in a slot where it couldn’t get a proper launch?

The network has begun the development of Raising Mom, from Vergara and Latin World Entertainment, Electus and ABC Studios, Deadline reports.

Raising Mom follows a young mom and her 21 year-old son who learn that they have actually done a pretty good job of raising each other, only to decide that it may be time for them each to be a bit more independent.

The idea for the show was sparked by Luis Balaguer of Latin World Entertainment after observing Vergara’s relationship with her son during the time that they have been producing partners.

Gail Mancuso, just off her Emmy win for directing Modern Family, will be on board. Christine Zander (Raising Hope) will be writing.

Sofia Vergara is also an executive producer of ABC’s upcoming drama Killer Women.

The two-part season premiere of the newly revamped X Factor will kick things off on September 11th and 12th, with the rest of the lineup premiering during the week of September 16th, the week before the designated primetime premiere week that CBS will be targeting. Exceptions to this pattern are Masterchef Junior, which bows more than two weeks following the season finale of its mothership, and Animation Domination, all of which return on September 29th. Elsewhere, FOX’s lineup will shuffle come November 4th, when Almost Human makes its series premiere and boots Bones to Friday, where it will join Raising Hope and Enlisted come November 8th. Currently waiting in the wings are Surviving Jack, Us & Them, and Gang Related, among other future FOX midseason offerings.
