Based on the Vicki Iovine novels of the same name and adapted for television by Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce follows self-help author Abby as her separation from her husband becomes public knowledge. Not only does she now have to repair the damage to her brand that the separation caused, she’s been thrown into the Los Angeles singles scene as a 40-something, which she never would have expected. Out of practice on what it means to date around and nursing a bruised ego, Abby ends up turning to her divorced friends for advice on what to avoid and how to find someone worthwhile in a seemingly impossible situation.

In addition to her role on the CW alien drama, Walters has appeared on the likes of The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, and Reckless. Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce stars Janeane Garofalo (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior), Paul Adelstein (Scandal), Alanna Ubach (Hung), Beau Garrett (Turistas), and Necar Zadegan (Rake).

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce is Bravo’s first original scripted series and makes it the latest network to jump into the increasingly competitive world of scripted television, beating competitor E! to the punch while lagging behind the likes of WGN America. Currently the home to the controversial Real Housewives franchise and award-winning Top Chef and Inside the Actor’s Studio, the network could give itself a new direction with the introduction of scripted shows, assuming that the market for scripted content is large enough that a small-ish network like Bravo can find a foothold this late in the game.

In addition to her role on the CW medical drama, Zadegan has appeared on the likes of The Fosters, The Event, and Major Crimes. She can currently be seen on FOX dramedy Rake, which was recently moved to Fridays and likely won’t be renewed for a second season. Zadegan joins a cast that includes the likes of Beau Garrett (CSI: NY), Janeane Garofalo (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior), Carrie Fisher (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope), and Paul Adelstein (Scandal).

“For our first scripted show, we wanted something that was sophisticated, funny and honest,” Bravo VP Scripted Development and Production Andrew Wang said. “We’re thrilled to have the talented Marti Noxon breaking this new ground with Bravo.”

The decision to pick up Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce means that Bravo is the latest network to dive into the increasingly crowded scripted television scene, joining the likes of Sundance, IFC, History, Discovery, and WE as previously primarily unscripted networks who have developed their first scripted material in recent years. Previously, Bravo developed an adaptation of Danish dramedy Rita with Emmy winner Anna Gunn and a television version of Demi Moore film The Joneses.

In addition to Edelstein, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce will star Janeane Garofalo (Wet Hot American Summer) and Beau Garrett (Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior), with Paul Adelstein (Private Practice) and Carrie Fisher (True Blood) to appear in the pilot.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce is set to premiere sometime in 2015 on Bravo. Reportedly, a second scripted series will be greenlit shortly after the pickup of Girlfriends’ Guide, though no contenders for the spot have been indicated.
