I completely get why Sam is regretting the loss of Amelia. Even though they didn’t spend a lot of time together, their connection was very deep. In a way, he blames Dean’s return for his split with Amelia. Even if Amelia’s man had come home, if Dean hadn’t Sam might have stayed around and fought for the woman he loved. Instead he picked back up with the life he hated when the series started.

Sam was still pissed Dean pulled the “Amelia’s in trouble” trick to get him to figure things out, and on top of that there’s the Benny intrusion into their lives. Dean trusts Benny and wants Sam to trust his faith in Benny. Sam laid it out for Dean pretty simply – Benny or me.

Considering everything Sam went through in the past with his demon blood – being a demon, sucking on demons, loving demons, killing  and enjoying it – you’d think he’d have a bit more understanding of where Dean was coming from having come out of purgatory. Sometimes you just need to have someone there to who’s a part of it, but isn’t so intimately involved, to just listen and support you. Once Benny called Dean while he was clearly eyeing some youngsters for their warm blood, I realized Sam and Benny are like each other’s sponsors in Purgatory Anonymous. They went through something so heavy and intimate together and they created their own deep bond. Much like the one Sam was creating with Amelia.

Thankfully, no matter how far apart the brothers are, with each passing season they become sexier and better looking. Focus on the positive!

Castiel found a way to bring Sam and Dean together when he tried to safe Samandriel (Alphie). Sam left Amelia with the notion that if they both showed up at their motel room the next day, they would be together forever. But if either of them didn’t, then they could never go back. Dean told Benny he would be there to help him as soon their case was over. Then everything went wrong.

I’ve known there was something wrong with Naomi since we met her. Since Castiel has been back, he hasn’t seen Heaven, only the office of Naomi, which I assume is all she wants him to see. I still don’t know whether or not she is even in Heaven. When she told Cas to go and save Samandriel, I thought, okay, she’s a good guy. Then he was compromised by Crowley’s horrific torture methods and it was discovered Hell isn’t the only place with a sacred tablet. As Samandriel was telling the secret to Crowley, Castiel was reliving some sort of torture Naomi did to him and he was flying back and forth between earth and her office.

Once Samandriel was freed, Naomi demanded Castiel kill him. She was like an abusive partner, talking Castiel out of what Samandriel tried to tell him about Naomi, that something wasn’t right, that she was using the angels for something. When Cas was talking to Samandriel, he didn’t even know who Naomi was. The whole thing is just very freaky and Naomi cannot possibly be a benevolent angel trying to save Heaven the wrath of Crowley and his minions by offing other angels with mind-controls brothers.

The only good thing that came of the horrid situation was Sam and Dean found a reason to stick together. When Cas is in trouble, they can’t go their separate ways and leave it up to fate. Putting everything else aside, Sam and Dean decided they would continue on with their work and save happiness for another day. Dean said goodbye to Benny (and we lost Ty Olsson!) and Sam didn’t show up to the motel, leaving Amelia heartbroken once again.

There was a resignation as the Winchester brothers sat down on the couch, popped open a couple of beers and watched TV. They may never get their happy ending, but they’ll continue to fight so that others do. While the world will continue to be in love with Sam and Dean and Supernatural, we will also hope they fall in love with each other again, as brothers and friends. As they try to save the world, it would be nice if they could at least have each other to lean upon.

Demons, angels, Lucifer, Death himself; the Brothers Winchester have been playing with big boys for quite some time now. Their best bud and angel, Castiel, was rescued from purgatory in the last episode, “”A Little Slice of Kevin.” We were treated to Cas’ full on spread of wings and a secret – according to fellow angel Naomi, someone in heaven wants eyes on Sam and Dean, and Cas is to make regular reports back as to their welfare.

Given their many brushes with life and death and the attention paid to them by forces of good and evil alike, its always been obvious they were more than your average hunters. I’m more intrigued than ever to find out what their special place is in this formidable fight between heaven and hell.

The best news? Castiel is on board to to become a hunter in “Hunteri Heroici,” and he seems to be back to his good time guy persona. Both on screen and in real life, Misha Collins is a pure delight. Check out the lines between he and Dean in the clip.

Who’s excited?! After the darker elements (even laced with humor as Supernatural always is), this looks like a fantastic return to slapstick type humor they do so well. Enjoy the clip and we’ll see you back here afterward for a review of the episode!

The introduction of prophet Kevin Tran’s mom to the world of Supernatural earlier this season was sheer joy. She’s so spunky and refuses to let anything get her down. She’s exactly what you would want a prophet’s mom to be, really. In “A Little Slice of Kevin” Mrs. Tran was in a bit over her head. She wasn’t afraid to ask for help, but when your son is a prophet of God, Craig’s List might not be the best option.

Yes, that’s right, Mrs. Tran went to where many of us go when looking for things locally, in this case, a witch to build a demon bomb. Personally, I wouldn’t trust a witch who advertised on Craig’s List, but Mrs. Tran is new to the game, and really doesn’t have a lot of options open to her. She did the best she could under the circumstances. Unfortunately for her, demons already had that base covered and her witch was a plant, leading Crowley right to their doorstep.

Meanwhile, Dean was having visions of Cas in very strange places. At least he thought they were visions, until he showed up. But something is up. Dean was right to wonder about it. Cas has no idea how he got out. They both remember Dean’s escape (and how cool was it that Benny rode along in Dean’s veins?), but Cas has no idea how he ended up on the side of the road. The best thing to come out of their walk down memory lane was Cas was able to put to rest Dean’s misinterpretation of events that he was at fault for not getting Cas out. Castiel chose to stay. For whatever reason, he let go of Dean’s hand. Dean really needed to hear that so he could stop beating himself up. It’s been a prevailing theme this year, and his pain has been a driving force in the decisions he’s been making. Maybe he’ll make different ones going forward.

With Cas back, the team set out to rescue Kevin, and the future prophets from Crowley’s clutches. We’ve very rarely had the opportunity to see Castiel the Angel is full regalia, but we were treated to it when he and Crowley went a bit “West Side Story.”  Crowley thought he was bluffing, as Cas sure didn’t look his best. When he spread his wings, there was no doubt God was on his side. Or was there?

Later, when Cas was talking to Sam and Dean, he was swept away to what appeared to be Heaven, but it was a Heaven Cas had never been to before. Of all people, Amanda Tapping was manning the desk as Naomi. She told him he wouldn’t remember the moment, but he would report in frequently and keep and eye on Sam and Dean. Really. What is up with that? Was it really Heaven? Who let Cas out of Purgatory? The last we heard, Heaven wasn’t in the best state, with God having taken a vacation and all, totally fed up with humanity. Is he back on the job? Or are there darker forces pretending to be Heaven? Maybe the Winchester Brothers are earning their own wings? So many questions.

I’m more curious than ever now to find out what happened to Cas. I’m so happy he’s back and apparently sticking around. Misha Collins has become as important to Supernatural as Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Whether he’s here for good or evil, it’s all good in my book.

Since we met Benny (the always impressive Ty Olsson), I’ve wondered why in the hell he wore Naval gear. Don’t get me wrong, nothing sexier than a pea coat, but he seemed to be wearing it as if was inherent to his nature and not just a personal fashion statement. What an ingenious way to keep a vampire “nest” alive and kicking. By boarding boats and ships, feeding at sea and losing the bodies, you can pretty much keep yourselves covered for a very long time.

Learning about Benny, and what it meant to him to find a friend like Dean in Purgatory was really interesting. Not only did he trust him with his life, but he gave him a perspective once he came back to the world he wouldn’t have had without Dean. Sometimes I don’t think either Sam or Dean realize just how much influence they have on the lives of those around them. Benny fully admitted what Dean’s friendship did to him and how unexpected it was.

We needed to see more about Sam’s relationship with Amelia than fuzzy birthday party memories, too. Seeing him lost, wandering and hanging around one of their 70s inspired motels as a handyman to pass time made their story appear a little less idyllic. Sam and Amelia were both struggling and found commonality in an otherwise dire situation. It was amusing that she found his survival gear and lurking to be a bit creepy. Never mind the fact that he’s hotter than hades, she managed to latch onto the creepy factor. At least he saved Dog rather than carving him up!

It was interesting that Dean hadn’t mentioned Benny to Sam and even more so that I hadn’t noticed.  Was he protecting Benny or keeping the friendship for himself since he’s been confused about where he stands with Sam? In the same way Benny begrudgingly learned to respect Cas in Purgatory, I think Sam will find appreciation for Benny.

Benny finding the woman he loved and thought dead left him questioning everything he thought he died protecting and really threw him, just like watching Benny save Castiel in Purgatory made Dean question everything he knew about Vampires, and maybe other supernatural beings, as well. The slight gesture to Sam to keep it under control at the end opened up a whole new realm of story for the Winchester brothers.

They gave Kate a chance to live in “Bitten” and Dean knows first-hand that all vampires are not alike given his experience with Benny. What else have they misunderstood? Are there other allies to fight against the evils of the universe who are only classified demonic due to circumstances beyond their control?
