After 6 seasons, 121 episodes, my relationship with Gossip Girl is over. We had some amazing moments over the years but to say everything was sunshine and lollipops would be a total lie.

We started off very strong, and the first 2 years were bliss. Like with every relationship though it started to go down hill. I held out hope and continued to work at it. Chuck and Blair were together, Dan wasn’t annoying with really horrible hair, Georgina came to visit (I always enjoyed her visits) and Serena… well she’s Serena, and Nate, well Nate always had great hair. Two years ago things started to go down the drain. I felt like the show lost its identity. I hardly recognized it anymore. I could have stopped watching but I’m loyal to a fault and hung in there. I held out hope things would get better and they actually did. Not season 2 magic but I came to the realization nothing will be as it was. Shows grow, characters grow (one would hope) but if a show stays true to their characters then the possibilities are endless.

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty! I really loved the finale! It helped that I had no expectations before watching. I was willing to take whatever Stephanie Savage was going to throw my way. How could I possibly complain? Chuck and Blair’s wedding at The MET was quick but oh so sweet. We got the best lines from the bride and groom. Chuck: “3 words, 8 letters”, Blair: “1 word, 3 letters, Yes.” Even though the police were coming to bring them in for questioning, it was such a Chuck and Blair kind of thing to say.

One final Ivy put down came at the hands of William. While William was with Lily he pretended he had no idea who Ivy was. Lily being Lily believed William. Of course William’s only goal in all of this was to be with Lily and he succeeded. You really do have to laugh. When these people aren’t sleeping they are scheming.

Now for the Gossip Girl reveal! I was shocked! I had no idea that Dan would be revealed as Gossip Girl. I always thought it would be Dorota. Well done Gossip Girl, well done! I could usually sniff these things out, but I had no idea. Of course now I have to go back and watch again from the beginning to see if there were any clues.

One of my favourite cameo roles now belongs to Kristen Bell who voiced Gossip Girl. I giggled like a little school girl when the camera panned out revealing her. I knew she was going to be in the finale I just had no idea in what capacity. It was also great to see Rachel Bilson. They had Rachel practicing her audition for the role of Blair for the movie “Inside Out” based on Dan’s book.

I absolutely loved the sequence of Mayor Bloomberg, Lola, Vanessa, Juliet and Agnes finding out Dan was Gossip Girl. It was hilarious to see everyone’s reaction. It also gave us a chance to see some of the not so loved characters again.

It wouldn’t be Gossip Girl without a favourite musical moment. “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons playing in the background while the group walked up the steps of The MET was perfection. The music was one thing I never had to worry about with Gossip Girl. One of my all time favourites is from S04E07 when “Dancing on my Own” by Robyn was playing when Chuck and Blair got busy on the piano. Music really does set the mood.

5 years later and things were going strong for our Upper East Siders. Nate was extremely successful running the Spectator and there was a possibility of him running for Mayor. Chuck and Blair had a son Henry, Lily was with William, Rufus was with Lisa Loeb and Georgina and Jack seemed to be an item. Too bad this was the series finale, that pairing could have been very interesting going forward. There was one more event and that would be the wedding of Serena and Dan. I was actually quite happy with this. A little cliché, but whatever. At least it gave us a chance to see Jenny and Eric one last time too. Did anyone notice the J for Waldorf bag Jenny was holding? Even though it’s a show, I was happy for Jenny. The best thing that ever happened to her character was that she left NY. My final musical memory of this show will be “You’ve got the Love” by Florence + the Machine playing while Serena and Dan were getting married. I’m not afraid to admit it got me quite emotional.

I’m going to end things with one of my favourite quotes. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Fantastic words by the great Dr. Seuss. It’s really rare that a show lasts for 6 seasons. It’s also really rare that a show can go out on its own terms. Gossip Girl fans are extremely fortunate. That’s what it was like throughout its entire run. The creators made a show on their own terms, pushing the envelope and trying to give the fans the best show possible. Gossip Girl was quite a unique show when it premiered and many thought it would never last. I would say it has a permanent spot in pop culture and a permanent spot in my heart.

xoxo

I have to say, I was quite frightened of Bart this episode. The man totally creeps me out, but tonight I actually feared him. I honestly didn’t put it past him to try and kill Chuck. When Chuck said he didn’t believe Bart would ever kill his own son, I actually paused and thought to myself: “Is Chuck for real?” Bart threatened Blair’s safety, and he had Nate arrested for fraud just so he could ship Chuck off to Moscow in exchange for Nate’s release from jail. Bart Bass is pure evil. Have we forgotten this man faked his own death? That is why when he was hanging on for dear life on that balcony ledge I hoped he would fall to his demise. Who would have thought that scene would be the final showdown between Chuck and Bart? To be honest, it was a bit cheesy. I wouldn’t have chosen that background music, but who am I?

A musical moment done right was the scene with Dan telling Serena he still loved her. Ellie Goulding’s “Hanging On” playing in the background was perfect and hit all the right emotions. That’s one of the things I’m really going to miss about this show, the music. Alexandra Patsavas and her team are geniuses’ and I’ve been enjoying her music selections ever since The O.C. and Chuck. I’m still really annoyed at Dan and I’m not even convinced he still loves Serena but to see him grovel feels quite good.

Before Bart’s demise, he was being honoured at a Man of the Year Gala. Nobody does an event like Gossip Girl, but even I had to chuckle at that one. Wasn’t this man “dead” for the better part of the year? It was a fabulous way to get everyone together, scheming of course. Blair and Chuck came up with an plan but they needed Serena. Serena got Ivy involved then Sage came into the picture and it wouldn’t be a scheme without Georgina. I have to say, when Ivy, Sage and Georgina were all standing at the Gala together the word spinoff totally came flying out of my mouth. Brilliant, no?

My heart really started to crumble into a million little pieces when a news report came out saying the Bass plane was missing. Supposedly the same one Chuck was on. It had Bart’s stench all over it. The writer’s couldn’t be seriously with this one could they? Good thing it was all part of the master plan. While Dan was supposed to introduce Bart to the podium he revealed Chuck instead. Chuck revealed Bart tried to have him killed. I got so angry when Bart said Chuck had a substance abuse problem. What else could he say though? “Yeah, it’s true. I totally tried to have my son killed because he’s trying to take me down for the illegal things I’ve done.”

We did get a really great Blair and Serena moment out of this. They truly are the nucleus of this show. I’m going to miss these moments when the series ends. Despite all the craziness this show has produced, one of the many things I’ve loved about this show is the relationships the characters have had with each other.

So the stage has been set for the series finale next week. Nate is going to start looking for Gossip Girl again. I for one am thrilled! I hope next week they pull out all the stops!

I think it should finally end but on the other hand it’s finally getting good. I can only hope it will go out with a bang. Not literally though.

It was Thanksgiving on the Upper East Side and Dan and Serena were in bed still together. Dan is such a snake! Chuck was drowning his sorrows, which was really depressing. Blair being very mature decided to give Chuck all the time and space he needed. Blair made her feelings quite clear that she didn’t want Serena back with Dan. It must be noted that Blair is the most intelligent character on this show at the moment.

Serena came up with a brilliant plan. Dan and Serena should invite everyone over for Thanksgiving dinner. What could possibly go wrong? Dan had major misgivings but eventually caved. Every time Dan shows up on my screen my blood pressure goes up. Another person that drives me insane is Chuck. “Unable to be with the woman I love.” Seriously Chuck? You are the only one standing in your way. Grow up!

It wouldn’t be your typical Gossip Girl episode without a little scheming. Blair had a plan to break up Serena and Dan and it involved Sage. Sage isn’t exactly my favourite character, but there’s only 2 episodes left so I guess I’ll just have to live with her until it’s over. Serena ended up “bumping” into Steven and Sage at the grocery store where she invited them over for Thanksgiving dinner. That won’t be awkward at all.

Dan further dug his grave with me when he started lambasting Serena for inviting Steven and Sage over for dinner. Is Dan for real? Dan is either an excellent actor or he’s starting to believe his lies.

Things then got a little dark on the Upper East Side. Bruce Kaplan who worked for Bart fell to his untimely death by falling off Bart Bass’s boat. Things didn’t taste Kosher with that one. Bart is quite the dark character and I wouldn’t want to mess with him. I’m quite worried for Nate. Bart knows all about Nate cooking The Spectator’s books and is now blackmailing Nate. This is not going to bode well for Nate.

I really wanted to give Chuck a hug after he thought he was successful in poising Lily against Bart. Either Lily was naive or she had something up her sleeve. Thank goodness Lily had a plan. She didn’t believe Bart for a second but sided with him to give herself time to get away. Way to go Lily!

The release of the Serena chapter at dinner was impeccable timing. Dan is just so jealous of Serena and her world. He still hasn’t let go of that young kid from Brooklyn with the chip on his shoulder. Dan actually believes the group thinks they’re better than him, but I believe Dan thinks he’s better than everyone else. I actually cheered on Nate when he punched Dan in the face. “All I did was tell the truth.” Keep on telling yourself that Dan.

With 2 episodes left I really don’t know how this show is going to redeem Dan in my eyes. Frankly, I don’t care if they do. I just want one thing to happen. Blair and Chuck need to be together! They’re going to war together and things are finally starting to take shape.

Some of the best lines of the night:

Georgina to Dan: “I am your everything.”

Blair to Serena after Blair learns Steven wants to get back together with Serena: “You must be in 7th Heaven.”

Dan to Serena: “No, I’m thrilled you invited your ex to our Thanksgiving. I was hoping maybe Ben or Carter or Colin could stop by for apple crostata.”

I have no idea the direction this show is going in. The good thing is that Gossip Girl is feeling like the show of old and I’m actually excited to watch.

Save the Last Chance had backstabbing, blackmail and a couple of O-M-GEE moments. One of the best things to come out of this episode was Serena fighting for her friendship with Blair. Serena seemed to have her ducks in a row this episode. She’s always been the character I’ve championed over the years. Blake Lively plays Serena so well, I really cannot picture any other actress in the role.

Things started off with Dan and Serena back together in bed. Dan actually came off looking less of a douche than usual. Dan and Serena came to the conclusion that they needed to make amends with the people they have wronged. I was actually quite happy Dan and Serena got back together. My joy was crushed into a million little pieces at the end of the episode. It was revealed Dan is writing a Serena chapter and is double crossing her. I actually yelled out a few profanities that shall not be repeated.

Elsewhere in Gossip Girl land, Ivy told Bart and Chuck she had what they were looking for. It’s no secret Ivy wants Lily destroyed and will do pretty much anything to make that happen. My O-M-GEE moment of the night came when it was revealed William and Ivy were hooking up. Holy plot twist Batman! I honestly did not see that coming. I found it pretty disgusting that William would be hooking up with a girl young enough to be his daughter. I really hope he has something up his sleeve because that is just wrong.

Despite everything that has happened, I really liked that Lily went to Rufus to plead her case. Of course it didn’t work, but it was a nice scene. After the meeting, Rufus spotted Ivy on the street kissing William goodbye. Rufus didn’t realize it was William though and was visibly crushed. Honestly Rufus, did you really think this was true love? Give this man a waffle stat! Rufus redeemed himself in my eyes though. He ended up taking the microfilm from Ivy and brought it to Lily, essentially screwing Ivy over. Dan texted Chuck that Lily was now in possession of the evidence against Bart. Chuck tried to persuade her to give it to him but she tossed it in the fire instead. My heart sank for Chuck. I really wanted him to come out on top this time against his father.

There were so many betrayal moments that the light funny moments were extremely welcomed. The 5 families meeting made me laugh so hard. Blair wanted to succeed with her new clothing line so much she was willing to do a little scheming like always. Serena was the one to actually come up with the plan. The plan was to make Blair’s line the “it” look for Sage and other students but they needed Sage on board. In order for that to happen, they needed Sage to think Serena and Steven were getting back together. Sage was wise to the dupe and decided not to go along with the plan. I was really happy things ended up going Blair’s way when the students actually loved her clothing line and she everything sold out.

The heartbreaking moment of the night for me was the Blair and Chuck scene at the end. I truly believe the writers hate us. They better make it up to us Chair shippers, because I am extremely frustrated with the direction they are going in. Blair is finally a success and she still doesn’t have Chuck by her side. We all know Chair is endgame but I really hope they don’t wait until the last scene of the series to get them together.

There was a time when I couldn’t get enough of it. I guess with most things, over time our feelings change. The show doesn’t seem to flow as well as it used to. The last 20 minutes though were the best and I felt that same magic I used to feel.

So let’s start at the beginning. Eleanor is back because Blair has pretty much destroyed her company. Eleanor wants Blair’s deviant side to go away. All of a sudden Eleanor cares? Where has she been all these years? Eleanor came up with a perfect solution. She wants Blair to make amends with Nelly Yuki. Obviously Blair isn’t going to do that so Eleanor takes back her company from Blair. I never understood why Eleanor gave her the company to being with. Why couldn’t Blair work with Eleanor and learn the business properly? It was mentioned in this episode that Blair is a bully. How have I never really noticed this before? She really is a bully. Blair has always been my favorite character so I guess I’ve always dismissed her bullying. Blair surprised me though. She actually used this to her advantage and came up with a brilliant idea for a clothing line. This is the Blair I love and the show I love.

Chuck’s storyline is getting a little stale. Don’t get me wrong, bruiting Chuck is pretty hot but I need some substance. This illegal oil business is getting boring. Can’t it end so we can move on? There’s only 4 episodes left! The thing I loved the most was Nate and Chuck playing detectives. This show works best when the characters are working together for a cause. Of course things didn’t go according to plan and Chuck was stuck looking like the fool once again. Can’t this guy win for a change?

Ivy and Rufus, the gruesome twosome as I’m calling them now, were scheming to cancel Lily’s charity event. Please somebody give Ivy a cough drop! With Ivy’s new found money she purchased all of the paintings being used in the exhibit and replaced them with the art from Rufus’s gallery. Lily was none too please but what other choice did she have? This was for charity, so she had no choice but to go along with it. To be perfectly honest, I blocked out this storyline but Lily did have a few zingers towards Ivy. “Vile little interloper” and “Gypsy trash.”

Things got a bit interesting with the personal painting Lily put up for auction. Turns out, Bart’s paperwork for the illegal oil purchases were in the back of the painting. Chuck, Lily and Ivy were all bidding on the painting. While they were all bickering Rufus swept in and had the highest bid and won. Chuck still working with Ivy, convinced her to sell him the painting. When she had it delivered to his room, Chuck and Nate looked for the papers. Much to their surprise, nothing was there. The next sequences were quite interesting. We see Ivy on a mysterious phone call with the evidence in hand and Lily on the phone with Bart implying she knows about the oil deals.

Now for my one time favorite couple on this show, Dan and Serena. They seemed to be friends again, which is good. They went to the same bar they went on their first date and they even got stuck in an elevator again. I actually missed these two getting along and I’m happy they seem to be making their way back to each other. There’s no doubt Dan and Serena’s chemistry is still there. I’m looking forward to seeing where this storyline takes us.

With 4 episodes left and the show feeling like the days of old, I’m getting excited again. Here’s hoping Chuck and Blair can now get their act together.

That is what I keep on telling myself. Don’t get me wrong, I love Gossip Girl. I have been watching it since the beginning, but it’s been on the decline the last couple seasons. My allegiance to Josh Schwartz is so strong though, that I must stick with it until the final xoxo.

I see Dan is still crashing at Blair’s and she’s asking him for fashion advice. Serena is domesticated and making pancakes for Steven. What is going on here? You know what these kids need? An event to go to! Just their luck it’s time for Cotillion. It wouldn’t be a GG episode without a fun party to go to.

So, Blair was searching for a new muse since she’s pretty much tanked her mother’s clothing line. She wanted Steven’s daughter Sage to do it but Sage wasn’t having any of it. Speaking of Steven, he was apparently planning on proposing to Serena. Isn’t it a tad too soon? They’ve been dating for what, a few months? How silly of me. This is Gossip Girl we are talking about. None of them have finished college and yet Nate owns an online newspaper, Blair now runs a clothing line and Chuck… well I’m not sure what Chuck does anymore.

We got a nice little mother/daughter moment from the proposal news (even though we all know Lily slept with Serena’s boyfriend a long time ago). That still gives me the chills. When Sage learned of her father’s plans she was none too thrilled. So she teamed up with Blair to put the breaks on the proposal plan.

Have I mentioned yet that Georgina was in the episode? I just love her character and Michelle Trachtenberg always plays her so well. Definitely a bright spot in the episode.

Now onto my least favorite characters. Ivy is still around and with Rufus, the dullest character ever. The two of them together just sends chills down my spine. Obviously she spied on Lily and sees her meeting Chuck. If you didn’t know, Chuck is on a mission to take down his father for his illegal activities involving oil. Ivy then offers to help Chuck. Can’t this girl just go away? I guess they need to fill the annoying girl quota since Vanessa left. Chuck and Ivy are busted though. I just hope he wins against his father and this storyline can end. I want him and Blair together already. I don’t understand why they can’t be together while he’s still on his mission.

We finally got a nice Serena and Blair moment. Can’t these two just kiss and make up? The show is so much better when these two are on the same side. Unfortunately, that nice moment didn’t last very long. Sage, the little brat, stole Georgina’s phone with the Dan and Serena sex video and displayed it on the screen as she was being introduced to society at Cotillion with Nate on her arm. Now this is a Gossip Girl event we all know and love! All hell breaks loose though. Lily tells her daughter “you don’t have boyfriends, you have life rafts.” Steven then breaks up with Serena. Bye Barry Watson. Loved seeing you again. Since Dan was still sniffing around Blair (dude, get over it! Blair belongs with Chuck) she tells him “I’d rather be with no one than with you.” Nate even gets in a zinger of his own to Sage. “You may be legal but this is way too high school for me.”

The episode ends with Serena heading off to get food with Dan. After everything that has happened could it be possible for these two to actually get back together? Only 5 episodes left!

xoxo
