“We have several of our strongest comedies by some of our best auspices being held for midseason, including the final season of ‘Parks and Recreation,’” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke.

The Amy Poehler-starrer has been on the Peacock net since 2009.  Despite Parks struggles in the ratings, it has long recieved critical acclaim, as well as passionate fan support.  The show has also garnered several Emmy nominations, and Poehler recieved a Golden Globe for her performance as lead actress in a comedy.

NBC has not yet released the length of Parks and Recreation‘s final season, and also confirmed that Parenthood‘s upcoming sixth season will be its last.

-Fresh off its premiere at the Television Critics Association press tour, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will be screened during D23 Expo 2013, a Disney fan event designed to give access to Disney films, television, and theme parks. About six weeks ahead of its September 24th television premiere, SHIELD is set to screen on Sunday, August 11th at 3:00 p.m. in the D23 Expo Center. The event itself takes place from August 9th-11th at the Anaheim Convention Center.

-Bravo has greenlit Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, about the author of a self-help book navigating her life as a newly single woman in her 40’s in Los Angeles, to pilot. The pilot was written by Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Glee) and becomes the second project currently in development at the network, who recently passed on Rita, a drama starring Anna Gunn as a teacher struggling to balance her three children and chaotic job.

-Former soccer player Juan Pablo Galavis has been named the next Bachelor by ABC. His season of looking for love, and someone to introduce to his daughter Camila, will air this January. He was eliminated during the home visits that recent Bachelorette Desiree made this past season.

-Emmy winner Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl) has joined TVLand pilot Jennifer Falls, which tells the story of a single mother who gets fired from her job and has to move back in with her mother until she gets on her feet. Pressly will play the title character, a woman who goes from a six-figure position to a waitressing job at her brother’s bar. Her most recent series was FOX’s I Hate My Teenage Daughter, where she co-starred along with Katie Finneran.

-After bowing to its strongest premiere numbers in two years, America’s Next Top Model has bumped two new episodes of Perfect Score, as the second half of its season premiere will be rebroadcast this Friday at 8:00; the first half will now be aired the previous day at 9:00, following a Vampire Diaries repeat. An all-new episode of Top Model, where the first cut is made in the group of 16 contestants, is still set to air Friday, August 9th at 9:00 on The CW. There’s no word on when (or if) the two booted Perfect Score episodes will surface.

-Kanye West will perform at the MTV Video Music Awards for the seventh time this year. The rapper joins Lady Gaga on the 2013 VMA lineup, where he’s scheduled to perform “BLKKK SKKKN HEAD” from his most recent album Yeezus. The 2013 VMAs will air live Sunday, August 25th at 9:00 on MTV.

-CBS midseason drama Intelligence has named Barry Schindel (Law and Order) as showrunner and executive producer. The series, which stars the likes of Josh Holloway (Lost) and Marg Helgenberger (CSI), will premiere Monday, February 24th at 10:00. You can check out a trailer here.

-Netflix has picked up 13th-century adventure series Marco Polo from Starz, the latter having ordered the show straight-to-series in January 2012. However, after little movement following said announcement, Starz released the project, from John Fusco (Hidalgo) and showrunner Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy). The nine-episode series, originally slated to film in China, will chronicle the famed explorer’s journey during his early years in the court of Kublai Khan.

–Community‘s Donald Glover is set to write, executive produce and play the lead in a half-hour comedy for FX. The series, tentatively titled Atlanta and currently in development, is set against the backdrop of the Atlanta music scene, which Glover grew up in.

-Issa Rae (The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl) and Larry Wilmore (The Bernie Mac Show) have teamed up for a half-hour comedy currently in development at HBO. The series, starring Rae, is said to focus on the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern day African-American woman.

-At their TCA session, NBC revealed that reality-competition series Fashion Star has been canceled after two seasons, while Celebrity Apprentice is currently casting (but hasn”t been renewed as of yet) and canceled Anne Heche comedy Save Me shot 13 episodes, seven of which won”t air. In addition, pilots Wonderland and The Donor Party are said to be on hold, The Gilded Age (from Downton Abbey“s Julian Fellowes) is alive, and Dick Wolf”s Girlfriend in a Coma is in negotiations with David Frankel to executive produce and direct.

-NBC also gave a peek into their miniseries development cycle. Aside from A.D., After the Bible, which will premiere during the 2014-2015 season, the network has projects in the works based on Cleopatra, Hillary Clinton, Rosemary”s Baby, Stephen King”s Tommyknockers, and the Pilgrims” journey to Plymouth.

-Syfy has greenlit Dominion, based on 2007 fantasy/horror film Legion, to pilot. Scott Stewart, who co-wrote and directed Legion, is back to direct the pilot, which is set 25 years in the future after a war between an army of angels and mankind.

-Casting news: Jurnee Smollett has joined the fifth season of Parenthood, where she”ll be playing Kristina”s political campaign manager Heather in a major recurring role; Sam Elliott Ron Swanson”s Eagletonian doppleganger on an upcoming episode of Parks and Recreation, the same one that will feature Kristen Bell as Eagleton”s Leslie Knope; American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy announced that Denis O”Hare will be appearing on the show”s third season, though no details about his role were disclosed; in addition to recurring on HBO”s upcoming medical comedy Getting On, Emmy nominee Molly Shannon is set to recur on Raising Hope as the new owner of Howdy”s, beginning with the fourth episode of the season; ER vet Parminder Nagra has joined NBC”s The Blacklist and a mentor to one of the female FBI agents; Heidi Klum and Henry Winkler will be stopping by Parks and Recreation next season, playing the mayor of a small Danish town and Jean-Ralphio”s father, respectively; Rome“s Indira Varma to play Ellaria Sand on the fourth season of Game of Thrones, premiering next spring; Steve Cabral is the latest to join ABC Family”s Ravenswood and Raymond Collins.

-The Hub has announced their first Halloween bash, set to air October 26th. The event will celebrate the best of  Halloween, including the first-ever nationwide costume competition with one  finalist being chosen from every state in America. Details are set to be released in August.

–Please Like Me, a scripted comedy from Australian comic Josh Thomas, has been renewed for a second season by Pivot. The series, which debuts August 1st, stars Thomas as 20-year-old Josh, whose life becomes in disarray when he”s broken up with by his girlfriend, realizes he might be gay, and moves in with his suicidal mother. -The ESPN 30 for 30 series of documentaries will add six new entries this fall: October 1st – Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau (centering on big wave surfer Eddie Aikau); October 8th – Free Spirits (a look at former ABA franchise Spirits of St. Louis); October 15th – No Mas (analyzing the infamous boxing match between Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard); October 22nd – Big Shot (about the 1996 New York Islanders); October 29th – This is What They Want (following the improbable run of tennis great Jimmy Connors at the 1991 U.S. Open); and November 5th – Tonya and Nancy (chronicling the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics).

-Key art for four CBS fall series has been released. Included are Robin Williams comedy The Crazy Ones; Chuck Lorre-created Mom; family comedy The Millers; and We Are Men, which will air Mondays at 8:30. Art for the network”s lone new fall drama Hostages was also recently released. The core of the Friday lineup won’t be returning until Friday, October 25th, when Grimm will debut its third season at 9:00 and Dracula begins NBC’s test of low cost international co-productions at 10:00. Until they debut, Fridays will likely be the land of repeats and Dateline, which has its season premiere on September 27th before shifting to 8:00 once Grimm and Dracula arrive.

Among the other later debuts of the season are The Biggest Loser (October 8th), returning to the fall with a one-hour edition; Blair Underwood cop drama Ironside (October 2nd); interracial marriage comedy Welcome to the Family (October 3rd); and Sean Hayes vehicle Sean Saves the World (October 3rd).

Meanwhile, on the drama side, Breaking Bad scored two wins, including one for Bryan Cranston, and Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany earned Best Actress in a Drama Series, defeating the likes of Claire Danes, Vera Farmiga, and Keri Russell en route. Parenthood‘s Monica Potter and Southland‘s Michael Cudlitz took home their respective supporting categories, while Jane Fonda was singled out for her performance on The Newsroom, which returns for a second season in July.

American Horror Story may have lost the award for Best Movie or Miniseries to HBO’s Behind the Candelabra, but they made up for it by sweeping the supporting categories thanks to performances by Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto. Michael Douglas and Elisabeth Moss won the leading categories for their performances in Candelabra and Sundance’s Top of the Lake, respectively. Finally, the reality/talk categories split their affections, as Duck Dynasty, Dancing with the Stars, Push Girls, The Voice, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart all were recognized.

“On the verge of our 2013 fall scheduling decisions, we’re pleased to renew five drama series that will be important to our new season line-up,” Jennifer Salke, president of NBC Entertainment, said. “We’re proud and very appreciative of all of the actors, producers, writers and directors who work so hard to deliver such high-quality work week in and week out. These complex shows represent a broad range of genres and tones, and all of them stand out for us in a television landscape now filled with one-hour series. We’re especially pleased to be renewing Revolution and Chicago Fire — two first-season successes — and there will be more returning series announcements made in the next couple of weeks.”

None of the renewals are surprises, as NBC has been much stronger this season with their dramas than their comedies, even scoring the two aforementioned freshman successes in Revolution and Chicago Fire. While Grimm continues to put up solid numbers on Fridays, solid enough to get a Tuesday tryout following the demise of Ready for Love, Parenthood has only continued to rise in its Tuesdays at 10:00 slot, the next season (its fifth) being an upgrade from the 18 episodes it had two seasons ago and 15 this season. Meanwhile, Law & Order: SVU has proved to be a solid performer for the network, launching Chicago Fire and giving NBC a strong utility player capable of handling a tough Wednesday time slot.

The only non-canceled/ending dramas that NBC didn’t extend a renewal to are mystery Deception, which is unlikely to return, and Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal, coming off another steep drop in the ratings last night.

NBC will be the first network to reveal its 2013-2014 schedule, having its upfront presentation the morning of Monday, May 13th.

If you’ve been following NBC’s Parenthood this season, and you should be, then you know Amber finally found a beau worthy of her affections in Ryan, a vet recently home from Afghanistan. They met after Zeek introduced Ryan to the family as a way to ease him back into society.

According to TVLine, it appears Zeek might be the one who thinks Amber and Ryan aren’t the best match.

As a former vet  himself, Zeek knows fully well the realities of returning home after a tour of duty and is probably only thinking about what could go wrong. In my opinion, he also needs to take into account the large Braverman support system he has introduced to Ryan and the many resources available to both he and Amber should things start to go sour.

Amber has experienced many a bad romantic dalliance during the run of Parenthood, and this one has given us the most warm fuzzies by far. Given the dramatic nature of the show, does that spell doom from the start? Not necessarily. Parenthood has proven again and again how it deals in reality, and that adversity can be overcome with love and courage. The Bravermans provide plenty of reinforcements when the chips are down.

Parenthood returns Tuesday, November 13 at 10 Eastern on NBC.
