]]> veepThe Television Critics Association handed out their awards on Saturday and the big winners on the night were Veep and True Detective, each walking home with two awards. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Matthew McConaughey swept the performance awards (Individual Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement in Drama, respectively), while Veep tied for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy with Louie and True Detective emerged victorious in Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries, and Specials over the likes of American Horror Story and Fargo.

Other winners at the 2014 TCA Awards included RuPaul’s Drag Race for Outstanding Achievement in Reality Programming, Breaking Bad for Program of the Year (the show’s second consecutive win in the category), and Orange Is the New Black for Outstanding New Program.

]]> tca awardsThe Television Critics Association has released nominations for the 30th annual TCA Awards and leading the way is HBO anthology True Detective with four nominations, including one for star Matthew McConaughey in Individual Achievement in Drama. Also among the multiple nominees this year are a resurgent The Good Wife, riding its creative boom to three nominations; Breaking Bad, earning three nominations in its last TCA appearance; Veep, which placed in Individual Achievement in Comedy for Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Outstanding Achievement in Comedy; and Orange is the New Black, interestingly left out of the genre categories but scoring nods in Outstanding New Program and Program of the Year.

The 2014 TCA Awards will be handed out Saturday, July 19th.

]]> breaking bad tcaThe 29th annual Television Critics Association Awards were handed out on Saturday night and the love was spread among several television favorites, as no one program or performer earned more than a single award apiece. Taking home individual honors were Louis C.K. for the third season of FX comedy Louie and Tatiana Maslany for the several roles she plays in BBC America’s Orphan Black. While this is C.K.’s second consecutive win in the category, it was Maslany’s first nomination, though she won a Critics’ Choice Television Award earlier this summer.

Among the three major program categories, Breaking Bad was named Program of the Year, reigning Program of the Year winner Game of Thrones earned honors for Outstanding Achievement in Drama, and there was a tie for the comedy equivalent, as The Big Bang Theory and Parks and Recreation will share the award. Meanwhile, Bunheads took home the award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming shortly after its cancellation, Shark Tank won for Outstanding Reality Programming, and The Americans picked up Outstanding New Programming.

On the drama side, Breaking Bad and The Americans both earned three nominations each, while the likes of Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black and Monica Potter for Parenthood sneaked in for buzzworthy performances on their respective shows.

Meanwhile, on the comedy side, Louie, Parks and Recreation, New Girl, and Veep all snagged double nominations, with each having a star nominated (Louis C.K., Amy Poehler, Jake Johnson, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus) as well as constituting 4/5 of the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy category.

Other notable nominees include Game of Thrones, being honored in Outstanding Achievement in Drama and Program of the Year; Homeland, who only snagged one nomination and found none of its cast honored; Vera Farmiga, adding to her Critics’ Choice nomination with recognition from TCA; and Sundance Channel, which found both Top of the Lake and Rectify earning nods.
