How adorable were Lila and Tommy? If you missed some episodes, Lila, played by Brittany Snow is Tommy’s new girlfriend. How awkward must it have been for Lila hearing Tommy was in love with Kate for 10 years? Hearing it from Kate made it worse. Of course Kate didn’t know Lila didn’t know. Kate just figured Lila knew. I couldn’t stop laughing when Kate asked Lila out on a girl date. I can’t believe Kate pinched her. Kate isn’t just awkward around guys when she’s nervous, she’s awkward around girls too. I’m just glad everything worked out with Tommy and Lila. I adore Brittany Snow, so hopefully we get to see more of her character.

I know some people are highly critical of the show and I can sort of see where they are coming from. I try not to be critical of comedies. I use these types of shows as escapisms. I work all day long and when I come home I just want to relax and laugh in front of my television. I watch a lot more police dramas than I ever have before and I just need to let my brain escape. That’s what I do when I watch Ben and Kate. I don’t really take the show that seriously. I just want to laugh and if a show can do that, then its won me over. If it hasn’t, then there’s always the next week. This has been bothering me lately and I just wanted to share my feelings about this show.

Was I the only one kind of grossed out by the bunk bed pizza idea? It’s just that there’s so much pizza on one slice. Of course you have to love Ben when he’s freaking out because his friend stole his bunk bed pizza idea. It turns out Ben sold it to his friend for 11 beers and his friend’s martial arts training manuals. Yup! that sounds like something Ben would do.

Poor Maddie, she was relegated to the b squad. What’s so bad about being in the b squad? I’m pretty sure I was in the b squad while I was in school. It’s great! You can fly underneath the radar and when you do something great everyone is proud of you because they didn’t expect it. Hey! I turned out pretty darn good considering. Anyways… you had to love Kate’s passion for wanting Maddie in the gifted program. Kate was perhaps a little too passionate considering she stole the gifted program’s curriculum.

You had to love Ben. He got carried away himself and stole the whole b squad. Who steals a bunch of kids? Ben Fox that’s who! He’s misguided sometimes, but I just love his passion. Unfortunately for the kids the trip to the planetarium didn’t work out so well. By the time they got there it was closed.  We did get a cute scene of all of the kids and Ben, Kate, BJ and Tommy all together on the golf course looking up at the stars and trying to recite the pledge of allegiance. Oh B squad!

Even though Maddie’s in the b squad I have a feeling she’s going to be just fine. She has so many people surrounding her that love and support her. This show mixes humour and sweet family moment so well. I just get all warm and tingly inside.

I nearly died of laughter when BJ went to the women’s support group to seek out Kate’s boyfriend’s ex-wife. It’s rare with a comedy that I would actually feel bad for a character. BJ spilling her heart out to the group about her troubles with Kate really resonated with me. I’ve been in BJ’s shoes before and it’s tough. When your best friend is in a relationship, especially a new one, you don’t spend as much time together as you used to. You just have to be honest with your friend and tell them how you really feel. BJ became so wise because of the support group. This actually helped Kate because BJ came to the conclusion that the whole sex face issue was more about Kate finding something, anything to ruin her relationship with Will. This is why I like this show so much. You have such incredibly funny moments mixed in with the genuinely sweet moments.

Mr. Entrepreneur Ben with the help of Tommy got a job as the snack cart driver at the country club. The wheels in Ben’s head are constantly turning. I’d love to get my hands on his idea book. At the club, Ben learns about the golf ball poachers and the light bulb in his head goes off. Of course! He’ll become a golf ball poacher. I just knew nothing good was going to come out of this. Ben ended up getting caught and when Tommy came to stop him, Mr. Carlson busted Tommy also. Now both of them were out of a job. I really felt bad for Tommy because he really enjoyed his job at the club. Things worked out in the end though and Mr. Carlson became Ben’s first investor for Rail Mall, one of his other brilliant ideas and Ben got Tommy his job back.

I would say my favourite moments of this episode were when BJ went to the women’s support group. That coffee scene was hilarious. Lucy Punch is just so flawless in her delivery. She’s quickly becoming one of my favourite actresses on television. One qualm I did have was the lack of Leslie Grossman. Leslie was my absolute favourite on Popular, so when I first saw her on this episode I got excited. It would be really cool if they brought her character back later on in the season.

Career day at Maddie’s school is coming up and Ben doesn’t quite have a career nailed down but still wants to go. Ben and Tommy get this hair brained scheme to start selling wine door to door. It just so happens Ben has crates of wine from his time spent at a vineyard in the south of France.

Kate has this super huge crush on her neighbour Will. She calls it Operation Crock Pot and she and Will are at the simmering stage. Ben being Kate’s older brother feels like he needs to do some recon on Will. Ben invites Will to an impromptu barbecue to get to know him better. When Will is leaving he asks Kate out on a proper date. The date went okay despite the fact that before Will and Kate left, Ben gave Will some warnings that totally freaked Will out. Kate called him on it and Will told her exactly what Ben said. They had such a genuinely cute moment. I’m really rooting for these two and it’s not because I want to stare at Geoff Stults gorgeous face every week.

Ben and Tommy decided to throw a wine tasting at Kate’s house. I totally got distracted when Tommy brought out the winesicles. Ben finds out from a neighbour that Will left his wife last Christmas. Big brother instincts kicked in and Ben barged into Will’s house in a rage. The truth was that Will left his wife 3 weeks before Christmas because she never put their daughter first. I love Will even more now.

During all of this, BJ (my absolute favourite character) is dealing with her own issue. She thinks the staff at the bar are looking down on her unjustly. The real problem was that she doesn’t know any of their names as it’s proved when she confronted Kenny. Turns out, Kenny’s name is actually Sam. The cutest moment had to be when Maddie was sitting at the bar with BJ. I absolutely love their scenes together. Could we just have Maddie and BJ at the bar having a full on conversation for a whole episode?

At the end Ben went to career day and had some really good insight. Ben told the kids to go out and try. Trying is succeeding! Then in typical Ben fashion goes a bit too far and tells the kids to maybe not go to college.
