O’Mara (Terra Nova, Vegas) will be joining the miniseries as George Washington, first commander of the Continental Army and eventual first commander-in-chief.

The six-hour series follows the journey of the United States’ founding fathers as they seek to to change the course of history to help America become a nation.

Other names in in the cast include Ben Barnes as Sam Adams, Michael Raymond James as Paul Revere, Rafe Spall as John Hancock, Ryan Eggold as Joseph Warren, Henry Thomas as John Adams, Marton Csokas as General Thomas Gage, Emily Berrington as Margaret Gage, and Dean Norris as Benjamin Franklin.

Sons of Liberty began production earlier this month in Romania and does not yet have an air date.

Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia), Henry Thomas (E.T.) and Michael Raymond-James (Once Upon a Time) will star as Sam Adams, John Adams and Paul Revere, respectively, with Rafe Spall (Prometheus) and Ryan Eggold (The Blacklist) will fill the roles of John Hancock and Joseph Warren.  

Breaking Bad‘s Dean Norris will also appear as Benjamin Franklin, with Marton Csokas (Rogue) playing Thomas Gage, the British General sent to deal with the unrest in Boston.

“From the Boston Tea Party to the Declaration of Independence, Sons of Liberty will tell the rebellious story of America’s greatest fight for freedom,” said History EVP Dirk Hoogstra in touting the miniseries.
