Aside from the fact we have no idea whether or not the show will return after last night’s spring finale episode, “To Lie For,” absolutely no answers were given and we were left with more questions than ever.

Emma and Sutton finally decided, with some pressure from their father, Ted, that it was time to stop lying to everyone around them. At the very least, Sutton’s mother, Kristin, deserved to know there were two girls. She had loved them both over the last year, and keeping her in the dark was unfair. As a new father of twins himself, he had the urge to shout it from the rooftops, even if the daughters he had weren’t with his wife and came from the tryst he had with Rebecca.

Dan was torn between being grateful for Alec’s gesture to name the benefit in Theresa’s honor and being angry that he still had no answers about who had killed his fiancee. He was also conflicted with his feeling for Sutton and Emma, once he learned of the twins, and asked Ethan to choose: the twins or family. Ethan chose family, but in the end, Dan was thankful for the help the twins had provided in moving the case forward, even when it meant going against their own birth mother and father. A part of him realized the difficult choices they were faced with between friends and family, as well. It was hard to be angry with two young girls who had been through so much when it wasn’t their own doing.

Emma and Rebecca finally had their moment, and it was heartbreaking to watch. Charisma Carpenter showed a depth of feeling as a mother she hadn’t done to date, but coming face to face with a daughter whose future over which she had no control, knowing she suffered without the benefit of a real family, tore away at Rebecca, bringing her to genuine tears.

Emma and Sutton “switched” one last time, giving viewers one hell of a scare, as Emma visited a visibly unraveling Thayer. In recent weeks, Alec has made gestures of love toward Thayer that seemed to confuse him even more than usual. Theirs was an odd relationship, at times downright adversarial. It was difficult to decipher the meaning behind Alec’s comments of love and protection. At one time, he told Thayer he was worthless, so to turn around and say everything he was doing was for him had to be confusing Thayer even further.

Emma needed to tell Thayer why she chose Ethan, and when Thayer asked her to close the door behind her, viewers everywhere must have gasped. By this time, figuring Thayer was the murderer of Theresa and probably Derek, would Emma be his next victim? But, I always thought that as conflicted as Thayer was, he loved Emma. He proved that to be true by pushing her away and out of the room before he did something drastic. Whether he would have hurt her, or only showed his cards…in this case, what appeared to be the blunt-force murder weapon…we’ll never know. We just know Emma escaped unharmed. The hotel room, however, took a beating.

At the same time, Rebecca, who had considered leaving town and taking Jordan with her, changed her mind after Jordan refused to go along. She threatened him with the reveal of his complicity in his brother’s murder, but still he wouldn’t leave. This left the door open for her to confront Alec. By this time, she seemed to have figured it all out. Who murdered whom, and why, as well as why Alec was protecting them – because you’ll do anything to protect people you love. This revelation came just before Alec crashed through the skylight into the benefit festivities happening in the room below. Will he survive?

So who was Alec protecting? Who did he love? Mads, Thayer, Kristin? Was the setup of Thayer too easy of a call? On The Lying Game, I think so. There were comments about someone, a female, being so innocent and how the news would affect her. Kristin? Could Kristin have found out about the twins, Rebecca and Ted’s infidelity and gone off the deep end? That would be a great twist. Again, the one thing we can be sure of is that we’ll likely never be sure. If we’re lucky enough to continue The Lying Game saga, everything we thought we knew to be true could be false by the time the story resurfaces. That’s what makes it so damn fun.
He did this during a therapy session in hopes of winning his estranged wife back, but it proved to be the doctor’s undoing, as more secrets made their way to Kristin, driving her into the arms of Alec. Now, though, Ted could take control of the situation and really tell his wife everything, including confessing that Sutton had a twin and that they’re biologically Rebecca’s children. Would Kristin listen after being lied to for so long? It didn’t take Laurel long to forgive Emma for lying to her, but Emma had only been lying to her for months, not nearly two decades and not about something as big as the maternity of her adopted children.

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions of the final two spring episodes of The Lying Game.

Tuesday, March 5th – “The Grave Truth”
Ethan’s confession to Dan threatens to shatter the brothers’ relationship forever. Sutton receives a mysterious phone call that may provide some valuable information. Emma’s feelings for Thayer are tested when she finds herself in close quarters with Ethan. And someone else comes face to face with Emma and Sutton.

Tuesday, March 12th – “To Lie For”
The charity gala takes a somber turn as everyone honors the memory of a loved one. Dan issues Ethan an ultimatum that has heartbreaking consequences. Emma finally confronts Rebecca about her lost childhood. Ted tries to find the right way to tell Kristin about another secret from his past. Meanwhile, an unexpected twist brings the fundraiser to a crashing halt.

The Lying Game airs Tuesdays at 9:00 on ABC Family.

Will Ted finally tell Kristin the truth? What will bring the fundraiser to a halt? Who will find out about the twins?

While Thayer decided to get out of town with Emma eventually following, Mads has come over to Alec’s side regarding his innocence in Derek’s death; it’s Rebecca, then, that faces the greatest challenge in having her husband around her. Not only are her opportunities to chip away at Ted and Kristin’s marriage much more limited now, she has to worry about her safety, as he still believes that she had something to do with putting him away. Despite the dust cloud of danger and doom that has followed the (former?) DA ever since he became free again, there’s one Scottsdale resident willing to link up with him to bring down Rebecca. But who could it be?

Listed below are the dates, titles, and descriptions for the next three episodes of The Lying Game.

Tuesday, February 5th – “Much Ado About Everything”
Emma and Thayer further their investigation into the twins’ birth mother and what Sutton may know about her. Laurel begins to suspect that something is not right with her sister and makes everyone nervous when she starts asking questions. Using ammunition provided by Rebecca, Sutton lashes out at Kristin during what is supposed to be a peaceful Mercer family dinner.

Tuesday, February 12th – “Catch Her in the Lie”
The Flipside Formal offers Emma the chance to try and trap Rebecca and Sutton in a lie, but she needs Ethan’s help to pull it off. Laurel struggles with where her loyalties lie, while Kristin makes a troubling discovery that has more significance than she realizes. Jordan continues to waffle between Laurel and Mads, and Theresa’s defense of Alec threatens to drive a wedge between her and Dan. Meanwhile, Rebecca and Ted, and Alec and Kristin, each reminisce about old times.

Tuesday, February 19th – “Regrets Only”
Emma struggles to make sense of newfound revelations and shifts in her relationships with Ethan and Thayer. After hearing Emma’s suspicions about Rebecca, Sutton’s faith in her mother begins to falter and she decides to take matters into her own hands. Rebecca is thrilled when Kristin and Ted’s marriage continues to unravel, putting her one step closer to achieving her goal. Meanwhile, Alec realizes that Jordan could be a strong ally in his private war with his wife.

The Lying Game airs Tuesdays at 9:00 on ABC Family.

Will Jordan be the ally that Alec needs to finally take down Rebecca? How will Emma’s relationships with Thayer and Ethan change in upcoming episodes? Which side will Laurel ultimately take?

I was even excited at the possibilities. After all, we’re talking Cordelia Chase here. Any time an alum from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is back on television and a show I love, I’m all in! That was then.

With “The Revengers,” it’s apparent her angle is so ugly and transparent that I wish she’d never graced the stages of The Lying Game. I’ve not read the books, but I have heard Sutton died in the early stages. I found myself wishing early on she had taken that same dark path in the series. Instead, she and Rebecca will now embark upon a terrible reign of terror to tear apart a family. A family that Rebecca desperately wants while, ironically, Sutton wants nothing to do with. That’s what I’m finding really confusing as things stand at the end of this episode. Rotten to the core and morally reprehensible Rebecca has had this plan to rip Ted and Kristin apart so she can take Kristin’s place with both of her daughters and live the life she believes she was meant to have all along.

Unless I’m missing something, we still do not have confirmation Ted is the girls’ father, but I can understand Rebecca’s obsession with her high school crush. It’s been done enough that I don’t need a degree in neuroscience to understand her motivation. Sutton, however, hates Ted and Laurel AND her twin, Emma. I cannot for the life of me figure out why she’s going along with her mother’s plan to put this little freaky family together. I suppose it could be that she wanted her mother’s love so much she was willing to do anything, and I’ll have to live with that for now. Otherwise, it just makes no sense.

Emma and Laurel continue to share such a lovely relationship and I hate that they aren’t the sisters. I only hope Laurel is as understanding and accepting of Emma when she inevitably finds out the truth about Emma as Sutton’s friends have been. Because, really, their acceptance has been amazing. Am I right? You have to wonder why any of them were ever friends with Sutton in the first place, because they aren’t welcoming her nasty butt back into their lives with open arms now that they’ve seen her doppelganger with the loving and caring personality in her place. I love it!

When Jordan called Rebecca mom, I immediately started doing math and trying to figure out where he came from. It never occurred to me that he’s most likely a step son. He would appear to be older than Sutton and Emma, and since most of their group of friends have a good picture of her life up until their birth, I don’t think he could have come any sooner. I think he and Mads will be the newest couple in town, and I can only hope he doesn’t have a heart similar to Rebecca’s. Mads’ deserves more than any scheming relation to Rebecca might bring.

Even though I had my suspicions last season that Alec knew about Emma walking in Sutton’s shoes, to hear him admit it and even offer to help her shocked me. I cannot get a good read on him. One minute I consider him the ultimate bad guy and the next a trusted friend and good father. Surely he’s somewhere in between, and that’s what makes his character so interesting. I want him to rip the rug out from out under Rebecca and Sutton, to expose them and help Emma to become a part of the Mercer family. Hell, I seem to think he has super powers, because the stunts he pulls off are so outrageous. When the idea is Alec pitted against Rebecca, I want him to nail her ass to the ground.

Thayer is still there for Emma, and Emma and Sutton are both still vying for Ethan. I hate that Ethan continues to think about Sutton for even a moment, and it makes me wonder whether Emma should even consider him as a romantic interest any longer. But you can’t force love, and if she doesn’t feel anything other than friendship for Thayer, then I hope they don’t force her to be with him just because he’s the only other available guy in the cast. Not everyone needs a love interest, as much as we’d enjoy to see them have one.

I’m going to have a hard time watching Emma struggle against her blood bitch relatives as we veer into this second season. Will her new friends and allies help her find a way to save the Mercer family she has come to love and remain in their good graces? When will Emma discover Rebecca is her mother? What kind of wedge and warring campaign will that wage between the twins? The questions are endless and I’m betting the answers will be few.
